Hey Ryan, I think it would be funny to have a thumbnail of Gorgo mid-War Declaration/Denouncement getting a futbol Red Card that's a military policy card. It's fun to see how you play around seemingly small bonuses that become terrifying forces of nature
if you want to suffer, do a vanilla TSL Scythia Game. if you want to have fun, do a minecraft Civ Game. you liked the mario ones, i think you will like that too.
Ursa, it's brilliant(hehe) that you have a sponsor! it's well deserved! and for it to be a site like Brilliant that helps sharpen your brain, when your content is top-notch in terms of strategic play, it's a perfect strategic alliance for you and Brilliant! very very happy for you! and I love the sheer pressure you're putting on this domination strat! very nice to be in the aggressor's seat for a change in civ 6!
13:25 a little bit of misplay here. you should always fortify first before promoting or pillaging. Unlike moving, they don't break the fortify stance. As you already know, fortify stance heals you and gives you a defensive bonus.
yes, though for some this specific train may have passed, your advice is spot on. Education, higher or regular, for old or young, is always useful. Just ask the various graduates of The University of Sankore on this channel too!
21:40 armagh: mountains on 3 sides, a river between the city center and all other adjacent tiles, and only two tiles that can attack the city with ranged attacks ursa: "that is a very siegeable city"
Early wars always trip me up, I can never seem to get the tempo right so this will be a great run to watch. Huge congratulations on getting sponsored and 40k is right round the corner! You and sleepybear should be really proud of what you've achieved with this channel.
I remember my first sub-200 turn win on Diety was with Gorgo. Managing to capture most of Brazil’s cities by the time I met a third civilization really helped out.
I swear it's something about studying chemistry that draws us to civ. One of my other friends, she was on my chem course, never really played any strategy games before unless you count Mario Kart. It wasn't long before she understood Sean Bean and One More Turn
Also congrats on the sponsor, actually decently placed and not too disruptive so nicely done But aside from that, hey that's extra cash to make this gig easier for you and that's better for all of us :)
Just in case you didn't try it in your play testing - you must use a rock band as one of the Mario Leaders. Well at least as Peach as that is the one I did.
Always love to see a Gorgo game. I remember when you did your Tier List and I mentioned she was in my top 5 for leaders. That hoplite push is pure sauce, and unlike someone like Hungary (who has a similarly powerful early push, but honestly not much else), the rest of the greek kit is incredible. In a completely unrelated topic, I considered being a Chemistry major myself. But Organic was at 8 AM, and I worked at a bar that closed at 2. No way I was gonna drag myself out of bed on short-sleep to suffer through learning the difference between and aldehyde and a keytone! So I did physics instead, where none of the classes started before 11!
25:02 you probably know this, but a lot of people seem to not (I know my friends didn't). The reason you get a "boost" has to do with the eras of the tech. Whenever you are working on something from an era that is farther along (like classical era while you are in the Ancient) you have (at least) a 20% penalty. When working on a tech from a previous era (working on sailing while in the Classical) you get a 20% discount. This means that Engineering became 20% cheaper (lost penalty) while the other Ancient era techs became cheaper (gained 20% discount). This also is useful from a strategic standpoint: beelining a tech means you get it potentially several era's early, but since it costs so much more, it is equivalent to taking a 20% nerf to your science output (your science isn't stretching as far as it should). However, when backfilling old techs, you get a 20% boost until you catch up to the current era, which is why you can 1-2 turn techs from previous eras so easily. Unless you are beelining something specific, you should always focus your efforts spreading out and getting every tech from the current era and before to save on science and culture costs.
Congrats on the sponsorship, you deserve it. Been awesome seeing your channel grow for the last year or two I've been watching 👍 Killing Mexico City makes m cry a little though. Such a great suzerain bonus.
Such a fantastic civ and leader! Gorgo was my first win on emperor (started Germany prince, Montezuma king, then Gorgo emperor). Sooo many envoys! Suze all those that you can, conquer those that you cannot. Huzzah!
It's that prioritisation of early game momentum which I suspect is the source of my difficulties with early game offensive plays, as I have a rather strong bias toward optimising for the long term and then waiting out the high difficulty AI's early game advantage in settlers and starting military. Stuff like saving up gold to buy the +5 adjacency campus tile, rather than making do with a +2; choosing city centre locations for their place in long run district arrangements and tile coverage, rather than prioritisting better starting tiles; a reluctance to chop non-hill woods tiles, saving them for lumber mills; etc. As such I don't often reap the benefits of ancient era unique units, especially the warrior replacements (the higher production cost of gaesatae and eagle warriors certainly doesn't help matters). (Also: just a reminder that you can fortify a unit, cancel the action and then promote it without losing the fortification; it's a small defensive boost that takes very little effort once you get into the habit of doing it).
i saw that single marsh tile and immediately knew you were going for lady of the reeds. im currently 16 minutes and have had that confirmed. curious to see when/if you'll clear that tile 😂
Dying to see if Ursa actually builds any amphitheaters to claim era score bonus (I say this out of love because it seems like such a sidetrack from your stated goals for this game, and I find that selection to be far less valuable than getting Eurekas or even converting cities)
Hey! Great Video... i have to ask since i don't know much. how you can see how much yields each district has ? i mean the pins but also at the policy page too.. is this a mod?
@@UrsaRyan I think partially. He used to push his voice a bit higher in his early videos so that adds to it too- that and the English is probably all it is for me
Isn't the "would you like to sample the hospitality of our nearby city" button one sided? And exchanging info on our capitals an equal trade of info. Usually when I scout and discover civs I don't think they would get info on me. Would love to know if anyone has a definitive answer on this question
It depends. If your unit discover their border then the diplo screen will give you sampling their city. If their unit discover your border then the diplo is sample My city (you give them visibility). If your unit meets their unit then the diplo action is Exchanging visibility. Kapeesh?
This is a Great strategy but you want to avoid culture because you want to keep the card for production towards anti-chivalry for as long as possible. A similar strategy to what Ursa has shown is called: Gorgo Salt Storm. this strategy is almost like the Aztec one but instead of spamming eagles, you spam hoplites (Aztec: make 3 cities and spam eagles) (Gorgo: make 3 cities and 3 encampments with barracks and spam hoplites, pillage your way out of debt). Not even civs like Sythia can survive this and it can leave people very salty in multiplayer as hoplites are dirt cheap and you will reach the thousands in military strength at no time. This strategy falls out by the industrial era, around the time where people get field cannons. Hoplites are 38 CS next to another Hoplite, +4 from oligarchy (42 CS), +4 from military policies in oligarchy (46 CS), +5 from great generals (51 CS), add flanking, and you have the equivalent to musketmen that are dirt cheap and cost no strategic resources, and you get them in the ancient era.
Just to note - feudalim's card still works on hoplites, it doesn't go obsolete = ) and hoplites don't get a benefit from great generals. Still, totally agree, 3 cities and spam is a great strat!
Thank you for coming back to "normal" civ6! I'm not sure what your viewer numbers showed, but I wasn't a fan of the civ5 or Mario mod personally. Keep up the fantastic work!
I like this one. Still don't like the same piano music though :( And I wished that Civ6 would give you points towards a Golden Age for taking cities. And lose points if you lose cities, perhaps. I mean, euphoria is a real thing for a civilization, as long as they're winning. The spoils of war do an empire good, too. It's sad that you jump into dark ages because you choose war. As if wartime can't be a happy time; can't write "wartime" without "art", and art is nice. Except piano music art behind RUclips videos. That's just repetitive.

Looking forward to the offical Sankore app
Congrats on that sponsored video Ursa ! I hope you get a lot more, it's deserved, you do a great job with your videos :)
Thanks so much = )
-Barb slinger : our stones will block out the sun! -Spartans : then we will fight in the shade .
Archaeology major here, although school may seem hard, it is worth powering through it. Congratulations on the sponsorship!

Aaaa, a sponsor! This is fantastic! I'm so glad that this community is so excited for you. I think it reflects very well on them!
Congrats on the sponsorship
Thank you!

Apparently everything's very seigable for Gorgo😂

Look at our boy, now he comes with sponsors! Good for you!
You got a sponsor, Ursaaa!! Congratss! Nice to see you grow :3 I remember when you had barely 10k subs! keep it up :3
Seems like it was so recent!
I don't always watch sponsor segments... But when I do, it's on an Ursa Ryan video
XD

I need to go back and try it!
I'm so excited that Macedon spawned - Hoplite vs Hetairoi and Hypaspist sounds fun to watch.
Also congrats on the sponsor!!
A match up to enjoy indeed! Cheers = )

a sponsored video from ursa congrats man you deserve more than 38k subs with would think you had 100k from the quality
Appreciated, thank you = )
I've never been so excited for an ad transition. We are impressed.

Huzzah for sponsor! Well deserved!
Cheers :)
Very efficient (and sadly overlooked) strat. Props for pointing out the diplo exploit for folks while continuing to resist!
Haha, I really want to take part in it again soon
Congratulations on the sponsor. I had the Brilliant app, I’ll revisit now I’m reminded about it.
Cheers = )
Congrats on the sponsor !

Killing Mexico City makes m cry a little though. Such a great suzerain bonus.
Cheers = ) Yeah a different strat this game, I love that city state!
I never really do early domination so I learned so much from your explanations here! 😊
Glad you're enjoying = )
Woohoo! Sponsor! And this looks amazing. I always liked playing Gorgo, but I don't think I really appreciated how good those hoplites could be!
Yeah she can be an absolute rollercoaster of a leader = )
I'm loving your daily civ videos so much
Really glad you enjoy them, thanks for watching!
Poooog o you have a sponser
!!!
Congratulations, Ursa!
Cheers = )
Congrats on the sponsor! Well deserved.
Such a fantastic civ and leader! Gorgo was my first win on emperor (started Germany prince, Montezuma king, then Gorgo emperor).

Gorgo is a beast
Brilliant needs a whole dedicated civilization class where you learn the game
Congrats on the sponsor! Well-deserved. And congrats on smashing those city states!
Huzzah for the sponsorship
Huzzah!
You can settle directly on the citrus so you can trade it faster and grow faster as you keep the 3 food!
I only have base game and greece is one of my favs, nice and versatile
i saw that single marsh tile and immediately knew you were going for lady of the reeds. im currently 16 minutes and have had that confirmed. curious to see when/if you'll clear that tile 😂

thank you for showing us these awesome strategies and fun gameplay options! you always show us interesting and different ways to have fun in civ 6!
Hoplite teams are an absolute terror on slower game speeds.
Marathon speed games are terrifying for stuff like this!
Congrats on a sponsor!
Cheers = )
I put this down at 6:00: I bet there's gonna be Iron on the hill next to the three mountains in the east
EDIT: 12:47 nope, thank God I'm wrong

Cheers = )
May dommy mommy lead the bears to victory!
OMG Ur sponsored!!! Congrats!!!
hi ursa bear! love your videos man keep up the good work!
Be careful not to train your Hoplites in a city with too much of a food surplus, or they become Hopheavies...
Hahaha oh dear
Hey! Great Video... i have to ask since i don't know much. how you can see how much yields each district has ? i mean the pins but also at the policy page too.. is this a mod?
11:30 tonight we dine in hell!

What a sponsor!

Hahaha because we're both english??

Small map - depends on who spawns in!
Just a thought, can you suze a city state, levy its army, then delete all the units, before attacking it?
Absolutely! It's very expensive on gold and envoys but you certainly can
I whish the t1 save was up same time as the video :D
It's up now! :)
Yasss
Sponsored video let's goooo!!!
Love it!
early-rush games are the best! Yay!
Always been one of my favourite strats this one!
can you play gran colombia sometime? it was such a long time since i saw someone play them
Yeah I'm very tempted!
bad first city location, mind boggling
tiles south are just so much better
