  • I decided to go this route so I could program and calibrate on my Porsche while using my PIWIS Programmer. This can be used for many good purposes to keep your battery from not going dead also. Credit goes out to the guys at 6speedonline for the original article on how to build this amazing power supply for under a hundred bucks if you already have all the soldering equipment. I will post all the items here.

    Followed your directions. The only step you left out is you have to reconnect the white pins after soldering the bridge between the two small components. Otherwise great directions.

    I was quoted 6k at the dealer to replace the TCU on my wife's Macan i said a quick "NOPE" so now i have went down the deep rabbit hole of learning to get this appropriately replaced and programmed but if it is just the wiring harness then no need for reprogramming.
    I'll be building this for sure and updating once i get the time to get started on everything.

      If it were a Panamera I have a tcu just sitting in the garage I’d give you. Good luck on your voyage. It’s a pretty simple process if you have your own piwis. Let me know if you need one. A good friend of mine sells them very reasonably and will get it set up and configured properly for you.

    Hi there, first of all I’d like to say this is a great video and thank you for sharing this which blessed us all from spending tons on the normal PSU. I have just a slight question, as you’ve added 1k resistor to increase the voltage. (Adding 1k gives me 14.2v) can I add let’s say 900 ohms instead of the 1k ohm to get output voltage around 13.8v? I’ve did the minor adjustments on the side knob as you’ve mentioned but the lowest i can go would be 13.92v. So yea just wanted to make sure if lowering the resistor would bring me a lower output voltage. Thank you very much in advance

    • @Hockinsonjohn
      @Hockinsonjohn 22 дня назад

      Thank you for the kind words! Yes, you're on the right track with your thinking. By using a lower resistor value, you can fine-tune the voltage to your desired level. Since you’re aiming for around 13.8V, replacing the 1k ohm resistor with a 900-ohm one should help reduce the voltage. Resistors essentially act to limit the amount of adjustment range, so a slightly lower value will allow the output voltage to drop a bit more. Just make sure to do it gradually and monitor the voltage closely as you test. It’s always good to measure as you go to ensure you hit the exact voltage you’re aiming for. Good luck with your project!

    I wish you had shown *how* you connected the power supply to the battery... And what was the cable you connected the last... The negative electrode?
    I read that one is not supposed to connect the wires from the power supply directly to the battery:
    _"The power supply must be connected to the terminals in the engine compartment. DO NOT connect directly to the vehicle battery."_
    I am completely untouched by this stuff, and I plan to do some flashing in a couple of weeks. (Not a Porsche though.)
    Cheers

    Hi John, hope you can help. I bought the same unit and tried to reproduce all the steps from your video. I ended up having the led light color red, so I decided to remove the resistor and the soldering on the DC-2173 board. After doing so the led turned green and I could adjust the unit to 14.20 V. Do you see any problem with this setup? Thanks

    Hi, I've build this device as well, based on that 6speedonline and it worked fine when I used it first time, but soon after (15 min coding) the battery indicator light up and it was looking like the power supply could not keep up with PIWIS. Have you come across this issue? I did not make a hole to adjust that controller, that is one nice idea. Did you have to make multiple adjustments on that, that you figured you'll need a quick access like that? Thank you for the video and tips - priceless!

      I just built this last night and right out of the gate it made 14.2V with no load. I turned the pot all the way counter-clockwise and it went up to 14.3. I wonder if your battery was low and the PS was trying to run the car + charge the battery? Did you kill all the extra electrical loads like lights, radio, fan, seat heater etc?

      I don't know how radically different our testing devices could be, not much, I would imagine.
      I believe there is a menu selection for clear all faults. I've tried to do that, it pauses and says that it can't clear all of them. My description may be confusing but any content regarding clearing faults would be great. I've gone down the rabbit hole, scrolling through about every menu and sub menu there is. Maybe I just need to take it to a mechanic and have them deal with it. But, like you, I try to do it myself before getting to that point.
