    hi..it's drew..are you watching this video right now? that moment when he's psychic..
    okay but by the way I just wanted to say
    if u smoke I don't want this to feel like an attack or a condemnation of anyone smoking because all the years I did I know I was very quick to feel judged and it isn't helpful. for me it was a great idea to stop when I did but I also think it's important to tell people with any type of issue that they're okay even if they're making a bad decision! it might not be good but it doesn't mean YOU are bad.. but that's corny idk. I hope your day is good better call Saul is on tonight and I'm not exaggerating I can't believe it like I feel like I'm inside of a big fat dream right now. it's crazy that there are television shows that mean so much to me that I literally start breathing heavily when I talk or think about them but that's just life
    as usual I reveal too much on Patreon.com/drewmonson

      How do your lungs feel after quitting? Do they get better?

    • @mytoecold
      @mytoecold  2 года назад +103

      @@SteakBoss1 way better, I had a lot of (Gross) mucus coming out for a while but it was good to see them clear a bit and I am noticeably breathing a lot better. I think a big thing I would tell myself to continue was that I was "too far gone" or had like too much for quitting to make a difference but that wasn't true at. all.

      I wish my own mother and family felt that way too. I will forever be associated solely on the bad things I’ve done. I could do a million good things but will only be remembered for and reminded of the bad ones. It’s sad and it’s a lot to deal with. I’m 41. It doesn’t help to have my mother constantly telling me about everything I’ve ever done wrong, how it’s affected her and my grandmother, etc. It doesn’t make me want to strive to do better. It makes me want to crawl under a rock and never come out. This is why, regardless of any mistakes my own now grown children make, I’m not going to put them down, continuously throw their short comings/failures in their faces, or compare them to people who have accomplished more. I’m going to support them and build them up. I’m going to let them know I love them no matter what and that my love is UNconditional. I know my mother loves me but it feels conditional. I want my sons to know they can recover from any mistakes no matter how serious. I want them to know it’s ok to screw up and that their mistakes or bad decisions do not define them as a person, that they can be who they want to be and it’s never too late to do the right thing or become the person you want to be. I don’t want them to feel the constant, nagging guilt that I feel and live with on a daily basis just because they messed up or didn’t accomplish everything people expected them to.

I’m not pushing myself to go cold turkey, I know I’ll smoke soon just to sleep, but holy shit, I see a life being sober and happy. Fucking happy. I am so fucking grateful Drew. I am so grateful. The one anti nicotine ad that ever stuck with me (and I actually have to credit for helping me quit) was one that said something along the lines of “you think this is helping your anxiety but it’s actually just making it 10 times worse” and then called a vape a depression stick lmaoooooo. But that genuinely made me take a step back and really view how vaping was impacting my brain, and it feels like a massive burden has now been lifted off my shoulders without it.

    the toxic relationship analogy is exactly how it feels to me with smoking weed! There were so many times where I decided to quit weed, but fail on day 1. Smoking is something that simultaneously brings me comfort, but also a lot of pain (higher anxiety levels, weed hangovers the next day, etc). Every time I smoked I couldn't control myself and would try to get as high as I possibly could. Turns out I developed the habit as a coping strategy when stressed lol. Learning how to manage stress has helped tremendously.

      i never smoked a lot (like once a week usually) but i noticed i was getting extremely anxious sometimes especially when coming down from the high. my husband has ADHD and weed is like a godsend to him, so when i tried explaining to him that i think the weed is making my anxiety worse, he didn’t seem to believe me at all. but after a reaaaally bad anxiety attack after eating edibles, i started therapy, got on zoloft and stopped smoking weed. i’ve been feeling pretty good! i wish weed had a better reaction in me but i’m definitely not like my husband in that regard. caffeine fucks me up too. -_-

I'm glad I'm a stoner at least it does something for pain lol, if I take a nice long break I can feel every weird little pain my body has from autoimmune issues. Everyone else makes me feel, weird. Because I am NOT an extrovert and I never will be. And I am now becoming okay with that. It's overrated anyway. That's actually how cigs work, they make you anxious. It only feels relieving when you smoke because you're taking deep breaths, which turns on the parasympathetic response in your nervous system (the thing that calms you down.) But, shortly after a cig, you'll notice you're more stressed; you spend most of the time actually going through withdrawals. I used the Nicorette patches and gum. You can get them for free by calling the 1-800-quit-now number. I did it for like 4 months and slowlyyyyy weaned off, but it really worked. I tried so many times before, but the patches & gum and learning about it is what helped me. My mom almost died last summer, technically she died for 3 minutes and several times in the hospital. She had 2 heart attacks, went into heart failure, cardiac arrest, and the list goes on and on. She was even on life support at one point and eventually diagnosed with COPD/Emphysema. This all happened within a month and all caused by smoking. Seeing her go through all of that and the direct effects of smoking for years is what really made me never be able to pick up a cig again.

    i started smoking weed every day at the beginning of the pandemic, it feels more like a dependency than an addiction (and ive been addicted to harder drugs before) and it does help me with some things, but it costs a lot of money, it fucks w my memory and ive been trying to ween off. hearing that you took your time with quitting made me feel good bc thats exactly what ive been doing! being patient with myself is very important and ive already cut my usage by more than half of what i was doing a few months ago! im proud of u and i hope i can follow ur example

      I was extremely dependent during Covid and smoked all day, every day. I knew I wanted to get a job in the coming months so I quit cold turkey. It was actually easier than I thought honestly- since I was so used to being high all day, being completely sober was kind of like a different type of “high”. It was refreshing honestly- my head felt clear, my memory was better, I felt alive again. I gave up for 9 months and got my dream job, now I let myself smoke on weekends and I don’t even crave it during the week. Keep up the great work!

    there is an elderly couple in their 60s and possibly 70s that are my neighbours. they sit on their poarch everyday, smoke, and talk. i have my window open at least by an inch to let fresh air in everyday because i am a teenager that stays in their room 24/7. because of me wanting fresh air- i end up hearing unwanted and honestly depressing conversations between the couple.
    in spring of 2022, i heard the wife talk to her doctor about stopping her smoking addiction on her poarch while sounding so fragile. the conversation made me want to get up and watch her from my second floor window... i was honestly watching out of guilt and empathy because i had always known them as just some old white people that smoked and constantly complained to my parents about my younger siblings making so much noise. now, everything seemed to click and paint a picture that was much more 3d.
    in the following weeks, i heard more of the wife and husband conversations with the doctors, and saw them improving with their adictions. i no longer saw them holding cigarettes in their hands while sitting back on the poarch. honestly, it made me euphoric for them. i thought i was secretly watching a recovering addict story in front of my eyes. unfortunately, what they were discussing to each other on the poarch was far from recovery. they already were giving up, and telling themselves and to each other that cigarettes were just destined to destroy their lives.
    in the present day, they are smoking like they were prior to attempting to quit. honestly, i'm hoping that if they don't end up quitting for the rest of their lives, that they at least can die together, and in the most ideal way heavily addicted smokers can.

    I've been wanting to stop vaping since I started and I haven't really had encouragement, just lectures on how bad it is for you and then I can't really encourage myself and just feel bad about it and really ashamed of myself. Watching you talk about this honestly just really encouraged me. You explained everything I feel about it perfectly. Thank you for this. You're awesome. Love you Drew🖤

    I know you won't see this comment among many Drew.. but you are a healer and so empathetic, you are the message I've been waiting for. You didn't judge or demand people not to smoke or be addicted, your path of compassion for yourself was truly beautiful. I don't want to call myself an addict, but I have depended on the devil's lettuce for more than two years now, it's not fun anymore but I can't stop. I told God to give me a sign and this entire video was it. Thank God and may he bless you and bring you prosperity, you speak your truth and help others.

You’ve made it through the hard part keep going!

    SO bizarre to hear about this childhood view of cigarettes! I have some friends who have said similar things about growing up and thinking that cigarettes were like.. the devil's work or something lmao. Everybody in my family smokes, and I grew up around it. My mom, dad, grandparents on both sides, pretty much every aunt and uncle... Honestly, I think that growing up around it made me waaaayyyyy less likely to smoke. I've always hated the smell so much lol

    drew even though you’re talking about being addicted to cigarettes, i definitely really relate it to my addiction to carts. i am so addicted to carts and my tolerance is so high that it barely does anything and yet i crave it so badly and it really is miserable. i really relate to all of the things you’re saying despite the difference in substance. a lot of people don’t treat carts or weed in general the same as nicotine but i’m able to hit other peoples vapes and stuff randomly sometimes and i had my own vape for a few months a long time ago and it didn’t get me as addicted as i am to carts. obviously the cognition surrounding the substances is basically the same, i feel like the difference in the way it’s treated by society effects the way that people become addicted to it and the way that they mentally overcome the addiction as well if that makes sense.

    • @creativechristinaa
      @creativechristinaa 2 года назад +2

      I relate so much. Carts are so horrible! They were so easy and convenient but now, like you, I can’t feel a thing smoking them anymore. You would think “feeling nothing” would make it easier to quit but I’m struggling so hard :/

    • @jayhouke
      @jayhouke 2 года назад +1

      @@creativechristinaa no literally same it's just that it's so easy to use them and it becomes so common and so frequent that, like drew said, you literally can't imagine your life without it. because, in contrast to cigarettes, dab pens barely smell at all and it's so easy to just bring them with you quite literally every where you go and it's so easy to hit them when you're inside and you don't have to worry about the smell and the smoke as much as actual cigarettes or literally any other form of weed that isn't an edible.

    This popped up in my recommended and I’ve never watched any of your videos before, but i’ve been struggling with even attempting to quit smoking so i clicked on it, and it was really helpful i feel like most advice on how to stop smoking sounds like it comes from people who have never dealt with it before, but knowing that you’ve been through this and you being so personable was really nice and helpful. You seem like a genuinely cool and down to earth person that enjoys what they do, i think most youtubers who have been doing this for a while seem bored of it but you seem passionate about it . thanks for making this!

    Not to be sappy but it’s honestly really touching seeing you so genuinely proud of yourself for overcoming that addiction. I feel like the reason a lot of people end up not being able to quit is that mainstream methods of quitting don’t work for everybody, so it’s really encouraging to see somebody finding creative ways that work for them individually
