I respect your opinions, no matter how wrong they might be about the Jim Carrey Live action. i think we are both enamored with the version we each grew up with. But that said, the reason the Grinch sings his own song is to show that he enjoys being miserable, it gives him comfort. He revels in being an outcast, being as Physically ostracized as he is emotionally.
This is why I prefer simple yet resonant stories (as opposed to overly complicated and stretched out) when it comes to wanting to put forth a message; it doesn't preach or shove it down your throat, it presents it as is and weaves the message into every facet of the film, from the characters' reaction to the framing to the environment to the music.
The fact that I'm watching this in February really is a testament to how well researched, reasoned and edited your videos are that I included this one in my binge session. Cannot believe you have less than 3k subs!
Dave! I got recommended your Dexter video about a month ago and I have almost watched all of your videos up to this point. I love how you analyze and breakdown all of these movies and stories. Just wanted to say thank you for the time you put in and I hope you’re doing awesome!
I have always loved the background animation in the original grinch. I has a very playful, colorful, and comforting quality. It is one of the reasons I love this movie over the other adaptations.
though i will concede that the Grinch animated is a seminal classic and deserves its love. the music is one of the ONLY welcome Christmas songs. and the animation is incredible. Clearly a must watch for the holiday season. but watchable on any day of the season. whereas Die Hard is a Christmas day tradition (in my family)
Never seen anyone say the Grinch is the victim and the whos are villains before. I was caught of guard by this , but you explained it incredibly well! Love the new video and the admiration for the old version of the grinch, it needs more love!
This is such a well put together video. Perfectly succinct in explaining your reasoning and resonates with me as to how I view a lot of cinema. Looking forward to watching all of your other videos!
The Chuck Jones Grinch was the best animated show, but the greatest Christmas movie of all was "We're No Angels." The real one, with Humphrey Bogart. The epic scene where Bogie rushes to save Basil Rathbone from a deadly snake is a classic.
the Grinch's one and only story? Seuss made a couple sequels, like the Grinch meets the Cat in the Hat, though it may have not been released as a book and only a cartoon.
I think there's definitely a bias that a lot of us have against small volume art. Feature length films are almost always considered superior to short films, in my experience. Novels are almost always considered to be more meritorious and prestigious than short stories. Even when it comes to books, big chonky ones like Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones seem to be much more highly regarded than shorter ones in the public consciousness. Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else feel that? I've even had to teach a lot of my students that making an essay/story longer doesn't always make it better (and in fact often makes it weaker haha).
W/ adaptations being talked about a lot because of Netflix ATLA, nice to be reminded that the best adaptation was book to animated short film. Live action adaptations just can't make the cut.

It is IN FACT. not Christmas. Until Hans Gruber falls from that Highrise.

Practically the Grinch is an depressive, lonely person on Christmas. 100% relatable.
Very interesting. Thanks Dave👏
It was impossible not to click on this video when I saw *999* views.
And you’re wrong about Die Hard. 😂
gremlins
1- Your failure to mention Chuck Jones is inexcusable
2 - Calling the guy who wrote “The Sneetches” a racist …. is just absurd
