It is a late response but Doakes is a killer I do not know why it would be a moral dilemma literally dexter proved that Doakes executed a man on broad daylight

Wow. I love Dexter, but you're right. He should have at least manipulated Lyla into committing the murder and dealt with the moral dilemma of lying to himself that he didn't kill anyone who didn't deserve it (when he obviously did, just indirectly). But instead he totally got bailed out. So interesting from a story perspective.

Hiromatsu's seppuku was what broke Toranaga's weaker willed allies to defect to Ishido, giving him an inconspicuous reason to send in Mariko. Like others said, Toranaga didn't want Hiromatsu to be the one to do is (the directors and Sanada talked about how he had to look surprised on the scene) but in the end it worked out in his favor. Toranaga knew from the start that his side was full of spies (the final episode shows how Omi was spying on his own uncle for Toranaga since who knows when) so basically he was just acting weak until his major turncoats defected for a chance to keep their lives.

I thought that after the third time, she wouldn’t get to commit seppuku. After getting that far into the show, I started to see the game the characters were involved in, and the hours of RUclips videos I’ve watched kicked in to remind me that the director(s) are also playing a game with the audience.

Ngl the bigger issue is how ilogical Doakes is. He's a terrible detective... and a weirdo. He is SHOCKED when he finds out Dexter is indeed an actual killer... which means all that stalking and crap was cause he thought Dexter was weird... and had secrets, like himself and everyone else? I love Doakes whenever he isnt after Dexter, he's believable and you can see his flaws and the good in him despite said flaws but he turns into a mindless plot device to give Dexter a "challenge". It's hard to engage with plot where the setup is dumb to start with.

Honestly by now i think most of the dexter fandom sees dexter as a much more moral person than he “really” is. In so many situations he justifies murdering people when there were 10,000 other ways to resolve situations. In life-deciding situations, Dexter has always chosen himself over values such as honesty, justice, selflessness or the true well-being of others. There were so many situations of Dexter acting annoyingly shitty that led to Deborah getting worse and worse and ultimately dying. She was everything he wasn't and when she died and he just never went to jail I was just disappointed in the character Dexter, the writing, the show and the poor undifferentiated view of moral dilemmas on the show

This intro of Villanelle shows how she learns from others how to be likeable. It is one of many personas. She is a Sociopath and only takes interest in things she sees as complex human behavior. She takes interest but is not motivated by emotions. The scene also shows a creepy guy staring at a little girl and the little girl responding with a long smile.

porco rosso is just an underrated movie, i had the dvd but didn't even watch it until like 6 years ago. when i did i loved it so much i always loved the dynamic between porco and fio, where she had a crush on him but he always looked out for her like an uncle or dad. he's feeling this stagnant guilt over the war, but he sees himself in her, the younger parts of himself that he loved. such a good movie man (i also definitely have a crush on porco too fio is so real for that)

Killing Doakes off was one of the worst mistakes the show could have made, instead of having Dexter face this consequence of getting caught by Doakes, they have his crazy ex kill him and thus Dexter's life goes back to being the same. They should have had Dexter's life even more heated by having Doakes framed and him pointing fingers at Dexter, the evidence is already overwhelming against Doakes but it would complicate Dexter's life, actually making it exciting, then in season 3 when he gets friendsies with Miguel it coulda actually made Miguel more useful by having him abuse his political position to take heat off dexter.

What's it with shows losing their unique style after the first season? The only shows I can think of that retained their intital appeal and style through out the rest of the series are Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Breaking Bad retained the style, Better Call Saul's visual language only evolved as it went on.

That one long s*xscene was really like "okay, I got it, you can stop know" - but it didn't stop to the point it got boring and I felt bad for the actresses (even considered those were originally corn actresses, because that was SO explicit!! including the man/woman scene). In my mind it was like - okay, they may have a toxic relationship and part of that is solving everything with s*x and that 's all they have, and it was necessary to make that painfully long to transport that.

I was unsure about Hiromatsus seppuku. I thought it might be Toranaga sending the message that he will not be moved even by someone he values threatening suicide to prevent others around him from trying the same thing to influence his decisions. To not show weakness simply but the story had many other reasons for Toranaga not stopping the seppuku.
