- Pokemon as a video game franchise is on thin ice with a lot of people after the questionable quality we've received the last few years. We're getting a little hopeful after that quiet year, but can they still fumble? Lets talk about it!

I have been hearing “this pokemon game was a trial run while they get used to 3D game development” since Gen 6. I’m running out of patience after all the money I have spent on pokemon games
Yeah, Legends Arceus and Scarlet/Violet were literally the worst pokemon games I ever played.
I’m still at the beginning of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but I’m enjoying it. Of course, it needed more development time, but I’m liking it a lot so far. Legends: Arceus was the best Pokémon game I’ve ever played. I didn’t have high expectations when I bought it, but it turned out amazing, and I can only imagine how much better it could’ve been with more time to develop. I really hope Legends Z-A gets enough time to become the Pokémon game we’ve all been waiting for, instead of leaving us wondering how much better it could have been, like so many Switch-era and 3DS-era Pokémon games. I think the only ones that felt truly finished were ORAS, Pokémon Sun & Moon, USUM, and Let’s Go, even though I didn’t like Pokémon Let’s Go very much.

It'll be the last straw for a number of grown fans, certainly. Kids, on the other hand, will probably enjoy it. Not because they don't necessarily know the difference between good and bad games; they just have a greater tolerance for games that adults would (often rightly) consider subpar.
True, but kids dont have money. And even with an allowance, I doubt it would be enough for a console and a pokemon game lol.
Palsworld will take Pokemons niche at the current rate.
Hell, not just kids, but every year, pokemon get's millions of new fans thanks to how unlike most franchises, pokemon is geared to appeal to older kids and teens, which is consistently changing. So yeah, doesn't matter what pokemon does, because at the end of the day, they'll always have a massive fanbase. This is also why gamefreak tends to release a new generation every 3 years (and why I will not be shocked if the next generation is announced for November while we get Legends ZA in like 1-2 months).
@@Seniorsneaky123 Not really, because Palworld lacks a very essential part to what makes Pokemon such a juggernaut, other media and massive amounts of merch. Pokemon has anime, films, games, toys, clothing, the list goes on. Palworld would need to go this route just to even start competing with Pokemon.

I agree that is the last straw for a lot of people, myself included. GF and TPC need to get this right otherwise they are going to burn through the last of people's goodwill for the franchise and company. Fingers crossed that PLZA is going to be the only mainline game for 2025.

@@SoulStoryMode Feb/27/24 is the last time Pokémon LZA was announced, so it’s had months to cook into Jan/ 2025 or having a May/June 2025 release window seems like enough time to be ready.

@ I was just speculating an estimate of release. They could do gameplay on Pokémon Day(Feb 2025) or before Pokémon Day, or in between/ near the actual release window.
I don’t think it’ll actually be that bad overall for the company if they underperform with this year’s releases. They have people in the millions who will buy their game on launch and populate the space they want to regardless and I honestly think we actually learned that after Sword and Shield. Those games got critically panned on reveal and launch (and still do to this day) but almost topped the charts in sales for all-time Pokémon numbers. The series is just an unstoppable money machine that will churn on unless the company itself decides to stop it.

@Pharrow I think the reason Sword and shield did as well as it did also because it was the first pokemon game since XD Gale of Darkness that could actually be played on the big screen that wasnt just another pokemon Stadium or battle revolution and had actual meat to the game like XD Gale of Darkness did. people didnt care if the game looked like an N64 Title in certain areas, they just wanted to play a main line game on their big TVs
If ZA is bad or releases in a buggy state that really will be the last straw for me.

i think both sides are true. pokemon is always gonna sell no matter what, but its not an excuse to continue making poor quality games. they can very much afford to make the best games they possibly can, pokemon is the franchise that makes the most money in the whole world, so what are they sitting on all that money for? its time to actually put it to good use
you can tell standards have been lowered when the video's demand is for the games to be decent day 1. not amazing, not great, not good. decent. we are bargaining and getting fleeced

Personally, I'm waiting for Generation 10 to see if I'll actually fall off this series.
I give the Legends games a pass as yes, they're 'main series' games. But they seem to lack quite a few key features from main generational games. Ex. Held items, abilities, breeding, PvP battling, etc.
Z-A is going to be a sequel to X/Y so I fully believe they will have them.
Just the fact that they have Megas is proof that there will be held items and abilities.
As it's called legends it's going to be on the past so somewhat a prequel.

This game HAS TO BE GOOD, it really needs to be, Im not asking to be the best pokemon game of all time, I just want this game to be in the same level of greatness of PLA and has as little as performance problem as in that game compared to Scarlet and Violet. I hope the extra time they given to the game will really pay off.
I believe they’ve had extra time, since it’s been back in February/2024 when they announced the PLZA Sequel.

I don't say this to put down your points. I very much agree with you, Soul, but I'm gonna be a pessimist and say that it's gonna take more than Z-A being bad to be the last straw for enough people that Game Freak suddenly decides to stop screwing around and do a better job. Gen X being as bad or worse than Gen IX may at least start a big enough fire to cause a good enough sized exodus that it gets attention, but Legends Z-A being a "sort of" side game is gonna be the excuse all the usual suspects use to excuse whatever doesn't meet the players' expectations. I'm not even sure Gen X being bad would finally shake them into getting it together. Money seems to be the only language they understand at this point.
We can't just blame the devs. The fans have become an equally large part of the problem. People defended Sword and Shield. Sword and Shield, the game that literally said: Screw the customer. We're gonna charge you more AND give you less game content while taking half of your mons away. Notice how even with Scarlet and Violet's technical issues, they were VERY careful to make sure the game at least had the usual "postgame" content XY and Sun and Moon had via the ruinous treasures being available as well as the mini tournament arc after Area Zero without needing their DLC to come in and save the day. Even the dex selection feels better. SV's returnee selection actually feels like someone sat down and put effort into it. SwSh's feel like someone came to work hungover and just threw darts at a wall. That's an issue in and of itself.
If there was going to have an exclusive pokemon game for Switch 2 this year alongside Z-A, it might as well be a spin-off. I did research and it show that they usually release spin-offs in the first year of a new console, like with Pokemon Dash for DS, Rumble Blat for 3DS and Pokken DX for Switch.
So our chances for a spinoff is looking GOOD is what I’m hearing 🗣️🗣️💯

Tbh I'd love to see a new pokemon pinball game or something all us older pokemon fans still want: Pokemon trading card game 2 : heres comes great rocket.
The tcg2 is a japan ONLY gbc game that was never rereleased outside of japan; let alone translated. The only way to play it is either buy it from japan or use a means nintendo dislikes a lot.
Is it an amazing game? No. But it would definitely bring back a lot of goodwill from older fans.
all I hope is Gamefreak expand their staff, the only way they are gonna be able to actually make games on such unrealistic timeline that Pokemon company sets they need more staff, I hate game crunch as much as everyone else, but the other option is Pokemon company just taking down the game division since they are so big to the point where they could probably just continue with every other department they have under their umbrella, its sad it has to be this way but the franchise is just to large now that Pokemon company just dont care about their fans and the love and care put into their games

It’s always the final evolution that gets a mega evolution. That’s the point of them. I think that’s what he meant which could be possible. Luxray has also had a lot of attention lately being in Detective Pikachu 2 and being in BDSP, Legends Arceus and Scarlet and Violet. Plus there are NPCs that pretty much hinted a mega evolution.

I'm gonna drop it here, we experienced Pokemon fatigue, and my optimism for a great game is... not even there.
I'm cautiously optimistic. I don't have a bar, I love Pokemon too much, but the fact that I'm NOT gonna preorder ANYTHING, and I'm expecting to wait for a year later to get it second hand, maybe is telling me to move on and go to another monster taming game. But there's nothing with Pokemon "vibe" if that makes sense.
Hope it succeeds. I have hope. Just... not too much. 😔
If the fans' outrage on Ash not winning the Kalos League convinced the anime devs to have Ash win the Alola League, surely the outrage of the new main series game performance will convince GameFreak to really do harder next time.
Considering the title, I was rather surprised at there not being a single mention of a certain lawsuit. I’m equally as upset at the company as the next Pokémon fan, but hey.
Monster taming has and always will be my jam, and there are plenty of other titles within the genre out there which I vastly prefer at this point. Unless ZA is miraculously a truly stellar game… Pokemon can go take a hike. (As a 90’s kid who has been a fan from the start, it does suck to admit that I’ve fallen out of love with the franchise.)
i forgot how awful the frame rate looked on the Arceus Trailer. i remember deffending saying how normal this was for games at this point in development...yet was secretly worried

They lost me with Dexit. SV was nice for nostalgia post bug fixes, but the Palworld lawsuit burned what little good will I gained from that. They really need to clean up their act.
I'm holding out hope that Pokemon's 30th anniversary being in 2026 means that the next mainline game will be held off until then. Considering both that and it being the tenth game, it needs to cook! While kids will enjoy whatever, I really want them to enjoy something as in depth for the 3D era as Black and White was for the 2D games, where the games add so much to flesh out the world and use what they learned from past iterations of the medium to make something beautiful.

I still waited until 2024 to buy pokemon Sword (when curiosity got the best of me). Worst business decision in years. I thought Violet was bad, but Sword downright sucked.
I'm a kalos kid through and through, so a return to that region and the really cool mechanic it introduced is a definite buy for me. Especially as a Legends game, as long as it matches Arceus' level of quality I'll be satisfied. However. If it _is_ only PLA's quality, that could very likely be the last pokemon game I buy unless they then seriously step up their game with the next generation.

Why does everything in the modern era have to be super duper HD 3000k, real life simulator, textured facial pores, in fantasy games? Pokemon is MADE for 2D maybe 2.5D. Some Pokemon just look uncanny in 3D. Idk I’m not a fan. There’s literally years worth of post game content in some of the DS games. There will always be something to do in those games. These modern Pokemon games just aren’t it in my brutally honest opinion “opinion”. What’s wrong with animation and sprites? Sprites can look SO GOOD, with modern technology. It’s just a sad state of gaming right now, hoping it’s a trend of all the 3D super open world stuff. An open world 2D sprite game would be amazing for Pokemon.
The problem with Pokémon in the modern era is that the mainline games don't even go for hyper realistic visuals and yet still suffer poor technical performance that would be considered widely unacceptable by any other playerbase or fandom.
I don't agree with going back to 2D (It would be ironic for a series all about evolution to NOT evolve in terms of graphics).
I think Gamefreak just needs to add life to the 3D models and worlds. All of them are so lifeless and boring compared to how lively the sprites and the world looked in those old games.
@ yeah, but modern sprite work in 2025 is stunning. It has also evolved. Pixel art is also very aesthetically pleasing and can be more colored, and saturated. Pokemon with modern sprites would look amazing

What I want from the next mainline game is the entire National Dex!! I don't care if it delays the game, I want every single mon and every single move that's ever been in the franchise to be coded into that game!

You're going to be waiting forever. The Nat Dex is gone for good. GameFreak have been clear on that. You may not like it, but it's a permanent change, and one I can understand seeing as there's over 1000 Pokemon now, and having to update thousands of models, textures, as well as get the balancing right with every single game would just be a waste of time.

And honestly, the removal of the National Dex was a big mistake in the eyes of many Pokemon fans, myself included. And it's not the only one they've been making with this franchise. With only an *extremely* small number of exceptions, the recent games have been far lower quality than they could've (and should've) been (and this is counting DLCs as separate games). If GameFreak doesn't get their s--- together, the Pokemon franchise might end up dying out entirely. Maybe not soon, and maybe not for a long time, but somewhere down the line everyone's gonna get tired of the low-quality games they've been pushing out lately.

pokemon is pushing it's releases to fast, when it is clear more polished work is needed.
this has to do with the trading cards releases as wel, no new game, no new cards, everything bringing in money, stops right away.

To be honest, I’m already kind of done with the Pokémon franchise like the last games I’m willing to get would be ZA and gen 10 if those two or a future game doesn’t make me into it again i I’m gone like sure Scarlett and violet introduced some of my favourite Pokémon Tinkaton and iron jugulis and when I will quit would be one generation after but like I can’t deal with this anymore I’m just bored with a franchise which is kind of ironic since compared to most I am a newer fan. My first Pokémon game being ultra moon but like I mainly just bordwith it and if I just quit for it, surely I can go for some oven Nintendo franchises like pikmin or splatoon even more
With a game like Pokèmon Masters EX, if they ever kill it off, they should just cut the servers for online play. Make it a simple free to play game with all of the playable content like event missions and limited time stuff unlocked and possible to play at any time while also being able to just collect currency for rolling for characters just by either logging in or doing a challenge mode
Pokémon used to be a system seller,but now I feel like I have more options & don’t have to be a stuck super fan. I love more passionate competitors.

@SegaMario it took at least 2 years to get any gameplay on Tears of the kingdom. We didn’t even know the name either until 2021 but I feel like this has to be some crazy stuff if the Pokémon company out of all of them is saying nothing

Let them do a repeat of history. I cannot wait for ... huh... "pokemon XX" and "pokemon XY"'s teaser and release date a mere month after the release of ZA, done by a small company that will definitely not be pressured by GF into releasing garbage at the end, and still on the Switch.
In year 2079, new remake announced. "Pokemon XXX" and Pokemon YYY".
I hope ZA is great. I think a lot of the love from Arceus will have worn off in terms of novelty, i wonder if it can even translate so w ell into the new game or will it just feel same thing with changed assets. Even little details like the pokedex being a book with a string holding the pages together was really aesthetically pleasing.
Nobody complains about mandatory EXP Share anymore. I literally can't play any of the new games the way I'd like 'cause of this. X/Y are the only ones I can enjoy, imagine that. You are so right about the feeling in general, great take !
Because that's common for RPGs nowadays and eliminates needless grinding. Pokémon just needs to adjust NPC team levels to match with the mandatory EXP Share.

I just played Ultra Sun for the first time recently and was really happy to see that you could still turn it off.
The way people talked about the EXP Share, I assumed Gen 6 was the only one with the option to disable it. Gen 7 gets a couple points from me.
ORAS and Gen 7 don't have mandatory exp share either
@@SonicTheCutehog No. If this series refuses to add a hard mode, turning off the EXP share is the closest thing to that. There is ZERO consumer benefit to taking that option away. Gamefreak might as well have said "we don't care if you want a bigger challenge, turn your brain off and play the game our way".
If they release a game where my first shiny isn't Shinx, we have a problem. I always get at least one random shiny Shinx that I didn't hunt for when a new game releases. And yeah pokemon need to deliver with their next time.

So, here's another thing- in all other years since I started playing Pokémon (gen 5), they've had an endless train of games going through each year. Sometimes two in a single year. It was a case of pushing quantity so that the masses cared less about quality. Now that they've slowed down and taken a full year off, they have to focus on quality because the quantity just simply isn't there.
In a good way, the franchise has stalled. There's not many new games you can put out because production is higher than in the ds Era. They know they can't keep rushing games out.
Only time we had 2 in the same calendar year is PLA and S/V.
Also, 2011 and 2015 didn't have games.
But yeah, I do agree, even if we went from yearly to every 18 months, or every 2 years the games would get alot more work put into them.
If they're that worried about making money and having Pokémon constantly coming out, they should use some of the absurd amount of money they get coming in a year to do more spin offs, Pokepark 3, a new mystery dungeon, a new stadium or colloseum. Hell, if they wanted to be lazy and save money, hire companies to just remaster those spin offs. Pokepark 1 & 2 remasters, maybe a battle revolution remastered that can connect to BDSP and PLA and has the post gen 4 mons that are in PLA, have an explorers DX made for mystery dungeon. Etc
@@Dante_Infernapethey should have a good cycle if they can allocate there teams correctly for different games. The main team focuses on the main line game releasing ever 4 years with dlc coming out like half a year later. If there able to have two studios with the same 4 year cycle release a Pokemon arceus like game and old title remake from another studio, I think 4 years would be good. Before they were working on less than 3 year cycles but it’s possible they’ve increased the cycle to 4 years because of the large extra year gap they took recently. Honestly I hope they take atleast 4-5 years for each mainline game on the switch 2, theres so much potential and people they can win back with this new system being there chance!

If ZA is more of a mainstream game then a new take on the "legends" formula it'll feel weird, that being said if it is the next game from Scarlet and violet it needs more polish then I fear it's gonna get

I wouldn't be surprised if GF tease their plans for the franchise in 2026 (aka the 30th Anniversary) on pokemon day 2025. Z-A will 100% be the last mainline series title on Switch 1 and with Switch 2 officially on the horizon, GF has the opportunity to deliver Gen 10 in 2026 with an extra year of development time.

This game has everything going for it as far as the premise goes, all it needs is to play decently, and BE ACTUALLY POLISHED AND PLAYABLE, that’s literally all they need.

As a matter of fact, I appreciated pokemon until recently when they dropped the national dex and we're dropping bugs left and right with no DLC patches
Honestly I'm at the point of not buying any new Nintendo products after their foray with patent suits and PalWorld. And if the Japanese government lets them continue with it, I'll be seriously reconsidering supporting their economy.
There’s a fine line between passable and playable and the buggy mess sv had for its 1st few weeks after launch was bordering unplayable. They definitely need to take a break with the rapid fire game releases

If there silence is a sign to them not baking the time perfect but rather out of Fear Shame and of course if Legends ZA is likely to be leaning to being Buggy and Broken on a level that Equal to Surpass that of Pokémon Scarlett...and that will be a last straw. Personally ive been looking for a Pokemon Black/White 3/Remaster or OmegaRuby Remaster non Legends Style Personally not preferred.

I do have some appreciation for Gen 5 now, that's mainly because pixel art being gone now.
Every model looks the same, animates the same. Everything same-ish. Gen 5 at least made the pixel art dynamic.

People bought them because there weren't any better alternatives, now there are, I no longer care if Pokemon ZA is good or not, because Palworld is doing a good job quenching my thirst for a good monster catching game, if ZA is good, great I'll buy it, if it's garbage, it's also great because I can save my money for something else and continue to play Palworld instead.
Remember folks! Don’t preorder the game for starters. GIVE ZA TIME FOR THE REVIEWS TO COME OUT. Don’t spend your money on a game that might come out the way Scar/Vi did. Even if you have faith in the longer development schedule, WAIT. Preorders tell companies that people will buy the game, regardless of quality.
I'm hoping that they do a good job and bring in a new wave of Mega Evolutions (also, please don't pull a Dudunsparce with Mega Flygon). I'm probably also in the 0.000001% who wants to see Mega Jynx come into fruition. I also hope that they reserve the Mega Evolutions for the Gen 6 starters or at least give all three Battle Bond transformations.
Unfortunately, they're too busy trying to stop Palworld from succeeding than actually making a good Pokemon game, because competition means they actually have to try, I want to be proven wrong, but I'm not holding my breathe for Nintendo, Pokemon Company and Game Freak to do that.

@ahighdef.experience3394 ark is doing fine and actually has quality in mind I have over 1000 plus hours in ark and I can tell you from experience it's not the same it is similar but not the same we're in the market for a monster collector game not a dino tamer pokemon has also taken notice of pal worlds competition with them anyway so that's kinda confirmation that yeah it's competing with pokemon not ark
@@resean2727 Idk man cuz they recently added a new patch update that added a new island, new pals, new weapons and QoL features and they also are going to have a crossover with Terraria. The hype for that game has been reignited.

I hope they've recognized that no matter what the sales say or anything that the Switch era was there dark age with every Nintendo series being the best it's ever been except for Pokemon and that this next one is either make it or break it for them. Considering that we've seen nothing I doubt the final announcement for the upcoming Presents is anything more than the ZA release date for end of the year with the rest being mobile stuff and maybe announcing a spinoff new or remade.
They are setting themselves up for success, they just need to take it and not trip halfway through. There's a chance and it's a scary one

Here's the thing, it doesn't matter what older fans think, because Pokemon can lose 1 million older fans within a generation. In exchange, pokemon will gain 5 million new fans within that same generation. This is sort of what makes Pokemon such a juggernaut and why Gamefreak keeping the core games as much the same as possible has always been such a success for them, because it's what allows them to keep selling to an audience that's consistently rotating as every year, there's hundreds of thousands to millions of new fans who will be discovering pokemon for the first time.
Alright, "The Last Straw" is already a crazy start people, i mean, first of, i do agree with alot you're saying, like with having the switch 2 feel premium and having the game itself feel like it matters, but everyone kinda blowing it out of proportion, having three sets of only GAMES, be the ENTIRE reason why you decide to throw away every damn piece of Pokémon from your life like it killed your family or something really says alot about how fake you and many others are as "Pokémon fans", like they ain't do nothing to y'all, SV and SWSH, still are good games and a few simple graphics and glitches shouldn't have to make you think it's trash, Area Zero still has a fire story and Terastalization is still an amazing mechanic while not as flashy as Dynamax and move animations as well for Gen 8, yes those simple glitches does give off laziness vibes from GF but really, like if you don't appreciate all of the good stuff they've made over all of the 29 years to the fullest then y'all ain't no fan gang, there's also a ton more content than just these mainline and spinoff games, there's Mangas, the Anime and merch, it's a damn franchise, I don't know about you but i would drop an whole part of me just because I get stuck skating on my head on like, an invisible ten foot hole, that would also feel pretty dumb because if it's one thing Pokémon is known for, it's the creatures that are in the name, seriously would you REALLY give up liking Mimikyu or Spheal or Flygon for this, anyway, making extremely high expectations for them only puts yourself in a position like this were y'all are still disappointed even with nice things like SV and SWSH and also yall ain't realize that GF don't got a whole hundred stacks of people to work on these things and coding/programing requires a lot of time and skills, i do hope Z-A is great now thanks to people like y'all, but I'll wait until at LEAST gen 10 to judge wisely
Cut the damn GIMMICKS and just focus hard on the main game, mostly polish. Like i really don't care about any of the battle mechanics other than megas those were the only ones that were "cool" imo. Just focus on a good story and basic polished scenery

The coul release ZA this year and unlock all pokemon on SV via a big update. Switch 2 Scarlet comes with Shiny Marshadow and Switch 2 Violet comes with Shiny Victini. The OG SV simply have the non-shiny versions as raids.

2) is more of a spin-off, even if they call it 'mainline'.
People will be lenient in majority.
What people won't be lenient about, is the generation following the disaster SV were in term of polish and features (despite story being rather good and having interesting characters. At least to me the DLCs really saved the deal scenaristically-speaking).
But I wholly agree they have to tread very carefully... People have their eyes on what they'll do to gen 10. If it looks trash, it's gonna break something inside a lot of players, imo.
Personally I actually really loved Sword and Shield, the colors, the characters, the features... Loved the spin where they gave a more believable look to competitions by merging it with sports, stadium... So it had given me hope for the future, ans it's still kinda there.
We'll see what gen 10 does... But since it's an important anniversary, if it's trash and they don't go beyond with the number of features like they used to in Pokémon games, I'm really gonna be very sad and disappointed. Wouldn't be quitting but I might give up hope.

What really happened is that people use to gave Pokémon too much benefit of the doubt, evidently undeservedly so, because we use to not have a proper point of reference and comparison. That changed last January 2024. Palworld kinda just indirectly proven that all excuses Pokémon use to have is BS. Probably why they desperately want to bring it down. Probably why we never get any mainline game this 2024. Now Pokemon needs to be careful, as they can't make excuses anymore.

They'll blame the fact its a spinoff and pray for the next mainline, maybe complain about hardware limitations. Pokemon fans are delusional and will cope with any excuse they can use to keep up the narrative they aren't wasting their time with a wasted potential franchise. Perhaps its that wasted potential the players see that makes them so desperate to see it be done that they convince themselves it could be done even though gamefreak will never take the steps to make those dreams a reality. But the fact its there keeps people fixated on this ideal world they want to be real. No one is is going to do it, so who else do we support? Peoples expectations will exceed their reality, which is why disappointment comes so often with pokemon.
I for one gave up long ago, i check in to see how they fail to even meet decent standards and how people refuse to move on. I'm just morbidly curious how far can one obsession go and how low is the standard. People are self aware of the problem yet it still goes on as if this is the norm.
scarlet and violet and bdsp opened my eyes, even though i like pokemon and the old games are great, the new games just don't deliver (except LA which turned out to be nice somehow). I think the returning of a gen 6 game (gen 6 and 7 were massive disappointment which is why i never played it, also 8 and 9 but i got them as gifts) can be a last chance for them. Like, a chance to fix the mistake they did from gen 6 which is the reason for the hype. This hype didn't exist before so this time the disappointment could actually be fatal...
even if it's a disaster and goodwill is shattered, the slop will still sell well, there are too many simps who don't care about quality and will defend anything because they worship gamefreak.

If Legends Z-A doesn't come out swinging, I really don't think I'll be playing another pokemon game. There's a lot of other monster tamer games I can have some fun with without shelling out a bunch of money for a undercooked mess.
Pokemon Duel was a great concept similar to the trading card game, but they shut it down. Could have been a full game.

I have my fingers crossed as well. Kalos is my Favorite region next to Sinnoh. I never had a game boy growing up so my first pokemon game outside of the game cubes XD Gale of Darkness, Platinum was my first real pokemon game i played. Then i went to X and Y. Reason i skipped gen 5 was i also didnt have a DS but i did have a 3DS and i found platinum at game stop back in the day but not black or white. and i was absolutely blown away by Gen 6 Visuals and the Mechanics of Mega Evolution. If they do Kalos dirty i may finally hang up my trainer hat and let the new generation of trainers go forth. My time in the pokemon universe will have reached its conclusion.
Pokemon is never a last straw for me to be honest. I play pokemon for one reason. Pokemon battles and the stories it tells. That's about it. I never cared about the graphics, the UI design and Nat Dex cut. The only quality I care about is the battles and the thrill of the competition. Everything else is just extra bells and whistles to me. I'm not the only who thinks this way. Everyone who competes in VGC and Smogon thinks this way which is a great majority of the player base than the returning players and the casuals who expect everything to be top notch or they'll switch to Palworld.

@@abeltherosegod its alarming how poor the standards for pokemon are that they only seem to care for a minor part of it and neglect every other aspect but treat it like the one excuses the whole, causing everyone else to suffer.
i guess i was like that to some extent, i only cared for collecting until the dex cut happened and all i was left with was a game so simple a goldfish could beat it, and everything else just seemed so... underwhelming.
But deep down i kinda knew that I didn't like a lot of it, as i always felt the game started after the credits, showing the story was noting more than an obstacle not engaging enough for me to care what happened, even though i paid attention. But i thought that was the point, just a glorified tutorial for the game, but then i saw that it was a rather poor tutorial as it just revealed so many other flaws that i had been ignoring up to that point when the dex finally got cut.
a game having one good quality does not excuse the rest of the game lacking in quality. I'm sure others like me value other parts more than me and whether or not one person gets what they want doesnt mean the game is good, because someone else is likely suffering when they didn't need to. Whats bells and whistles to one is bread and butter to another, and vice versa.

Scarlet/Violet were good games going in a good direction, as someone who's first pokemon game was Pokemon Yellow, Scarlet/Violet was a proper 3d pokemon game and needed more time to cook and polish. They rushed it and burned many Pokemon fans.
Even though I'm one of the few people who loves or at the very least tolerates every Pokémon game (Yes, even BDSP to an extent), I'm afraid that GameFreak will mess up Legends ZA and lose the respect of its fans immediately.
GameFreak has potential to make a comeback from a trashy game with Legends Arceus after SwSh and BDSP, who's to say they will hopefully do it again this year with ZA after Scarlet and Violet (even though I don't think those games are as bad as everyone makes it out to be).
Real fans will play Pokémon regardless cause most play for shiny hunts and competitive battles which isn’t tied to the state of the game

Pokemon's trashy quality while playing actually good monster collectors like Yo-Kai Watch has motivated me to learn programming and sprite art so I can make my own monster collector RPG. NOT playing Pokemon has given me more time to improve my skills and learn from the skills of others.

I feel like I’m already done with the series. I have no faith the new game will be good, and it will be the first games I won’t preorder or buy day one until I see good reviews. Arceus and ORAS are the only games I’ve enjoyed within the last 10+ years of going into 3D. Gen 9 is a pathetic attempt at making a good game and it ruined just about everything Pokémon for me.
TBH, I kinda hope ZA will be as bad as the leaks make it appear to be. Because I like when things are set on fire spectacularly.
