I bought another Porsche 718 Spyder - Here's why! (And why you should too!)

  • I sold my Porsche 718 GT4 and bought another 718 Spyder. I believe this is the 718 equivalent of the 991.2 GT3 Touring. With it's sleek design and GT-car power It can handle track days just as well as fancy dinners and sunset cruises. Of the two sister cars, this is the one to have.
If you are thinking of buying a 718 or 981 GT4 or Spyder, or even a 718 4.0 GTS, watch this first!

I think you are correct. I owned a 2016 Spyder and traded it in 2019 for a Targa 4S. Big mistake. Bought a 718 Spyder in 2021 and it’s my favorite street car. Better than my GT3 Touring!

Only a fellow Porsche 718 Spyder will really understand how good this car is “out of the box”! It’s my daily drive and every journey is an adventure for me. I actually love the tall gearing in the manual. Good review on the car even though though it’s no longer available from the dealers.

Second gear hits 85 mph in this vehicle. Now, do you think that's short, or long gearing? Take a wild guess. On a back road, you never get the chance to shift to 1st or 3rd because there is no need. Other than that, this vehicle is perfection.

Enjoyed your video and your take on why you enjoy the Spyder.
I own 21 Spyder with the PDK. I have owned a few different 911’s one being a 2015 GTS.
For the me the Spyder is different enough in looks along with limited numbers on the road. I don’t see very many Spyder’s on the road vs 911’s. I enjoy people asking about the car just based on you don’t see a lot of them.
90% of my time in the car is with the top down and listening to the flat 6.
Cheers on your video and keep enjoying your Spyder 😎

How does spyder compare to Ferrari? I have a 22 pdk spyder and Im struggling to see if it makes sense to trade for 488. Please give me your insight.

    • @BritishBeefy
      @BritishBeefy 14 дней назад +1

@@davidkane712 F430 and 488 fairly different. The Ferrari defiantly had the drama and theatre but I would often not use it and take the GT4 as it more usable, not just in terms of practicality, but in terms of size of the car on the road, leaving it places etc. ... so I thought I'd get a Spyder. No doubt the 488 will be much quicker and more dramatic ... but how much will you use it too ?
Also keeping the F430 in tip top condition I think was about 3x the price of keeping the GT4 in tip top condition. There was always something that need doing over and above the annual service often ball joints etc. Not sure if 488 suffer similar issues. I used AV Engineering who were fantastic

      Haha! Very similar history/setup. :)
I’ve always loved the 981 GT4, imo that’s the GT4 to have. For the Spyders i think the 718 is better with the GT chassis. And with both of them in the garage and the PDK in the Spyder you have the perfect setup! ❤️
Loved the 430 and sometimes miss it, but It always felt as you where riding a mighty engine. The car around it felt distant in a way.

We've missed you man! I loved all your in-depth exhaust videos and was a bit disappointed you finally got the exhaust you wanted and then removed it lol. I just got my JCR exhaust installed with OAPs...the sound is finally complete! Yes it is loud, yes there is a bit of drone at certain RPMs, but I love it all! I also did lightened flywheel and tune which makes the car feel much faster...with the sound and speed, can't justify the premium of a GT3. Don't even know I would like it more...love the GT4/Spyder size for UK roads.

Great video! Totally agree on most things you say! I just came back to Sweden after a roadtrip in Europe in my Spyder! Almost 5000 km in 14 days. 😂
Love the car and the comfort in the 18 ways is excellent. Had ideas to replace the exhaust and/or the controller, but now having lived with it on Autobahn I’ll just leave it stock for some form of comfort.
Agree with you on the Burmester. I specced it on mine but think the Bose would do just as great.
Only thing missing is the front lift. Numerous times these weeks the underside has been scraped. Nothing that shows unless you’re lying on the ground, but still. Love the look of the Spyder, hate its impracticality. For a Sunday car it’s near perfect, especially with its track focused GT3 front suspension. However, stopping to put the roof up & down (I live in england with regular summer showers), its much noisier than the regular roof on long journeys, difficulty accessing the rear boot, the hard ride in everyday use gets tiring, as does getting in and out of Porsche bucket seats. And so I bought a GTS 4.0 Boxster. The Spyder is for a perfect day but for the other 90% of the time it becomes harder to live with and once the honeymoon is over you find you use it less and less…however you are likely to stand and gaze on its beauty more than a GTS. I do wish they had put more effort into making the GTS look more aggressive. With cars it’s about the compromises you can and can’t live with. Congrats on yours as it appears you can happily live with the Spyder’s. My GTS is in GT silver, with silver Carrera wheels with a chocolate brown leather interior in homage to the great Carrera GT…which is another set of compromises!
