What an awesome video! I was researching prong collars for my dog and wouldn't have any idea of the possible dangers without this video. I commend you as a business man to see an issue and address it, not only for your business but for your customers and their pets...
It isn't always about "learning" how to put the prong on, sometimes it has to do with lack of strength in fingers. I have had many female customers stop using prongs because they couldn't squeeze the prongs to use it. NO prong use equals dog doesn't get walked equals behavior problems. I recommend a quick release for them and they love it and use it. Always use with a safety backup like your dd collar.
I get what this guy is saying that is potentially dangerous depending on the situation and I think its good that he is making people aware of this potential issue. I think depending on where you are with your dog training you could use a quick release just fine. I been working with my dog for about 5 weeks and my dog has been only wearing a 6 inch line on her collar so if the collar fell off it wouldn't be an issue. In fact soon I plan on weaning my dog off the collar completely. After about 4 weeks I have had my dog obeying off leash even under distraction outside of busy shopping plazas. Prong collars are a great temporary tool to get your dog to where you want him or her to be.
WOW....ALL COMPLETE RESPECT FOR THIS MAN... WHEN HAS AMERICA EVER-----EVER----EVER---SEEN A PRODUCT MAKER---DO THIS? NEVER!! NOPE. THEY WOULD RATHER MAKE THE MONEY THAN ADMIT--THERE COULD BE PROBLEMS AND THEY CANNOT MORALLY JUSTIFY THE CONTINUED SELLING OF THE PRODUCT FOR A BUCK! BRAVO.... THIS MAN DESERVES INCREDIBLE RESPECT. THANK YOU. FINALLY, A MAN OF HONOR AND WORD AND MORALS. I AM SO IN AWE OF HIM. GOD JOB MR. COMPLETE RESPECT AND BEST WISHES TO YOU! BECAUSE DOG OWNERS DO NOT ALWAYS USE A BACKUP LEASH--THERE COULD BE POTENTIAL FOR PROBLEMS---AND YOU SIR, HAVE DONE THE RIGHT THING AND NEED BE COMMENDED FOR THAT HONORABLE DECISION. THANK YOU.
LilTigerette K tons of products leave store shelves every year because they could be defective or harmful. I’m just talking about in general not with dog stuff.
I know this is a older video, but I just wanted to say good for you for caring about your cosumets saftey and their dogs safety so much that you're willing to take probably one of your best selling items off the market. I can tell this is a good company to buy from!
THAT'S THE PROBLEM---BECAUSE MANY DOG 'OWNERS, HANDLERS' FAIL TO USE A BACKUP COLLAR/LEASH---HE NO LONGER WANTS TO BE A PART OF THAT OR PROVIDE THE PRONG COLLARS-- BECAUSE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THEM THAT THEY 'COULD' ACCIDENTALLY RELEASE AND THE DOG OWNERS 'FAIL' TO DO THEIR PART AND USE THAT BACKUP--THIS MAN IS STEPPING BACK FROM THIS---I AM IN TOTAL RESPECT OF HIM--OBVIOUSLY HIS LOVE OF DOGS IS MORE VALUABLE TO HIM THAN THE MIGHTY DOLLAR--SO UNLIKE MOST PRODUCT MAKERS--THAT'S WHY I RESPECT HIM SO MUCH... HE APPARENTLY HAS TRIED TO ADVISE OWNERS THAT HIS PRODUCT IS JUST A TOOL AND THEY NEED A 'BACKUP' BUT FAIL TO USE ONE--THERE HAS BEEN PROBLEMS WITH DOGS GETTING LOSE... THIS IS NOT HIS FAULT---ITS THE DOG OWNERS FAULT. GOOD JOB MR. A RARE HONORABLE MAN.
can make an argument of the dangers of not having a quick release as well. if you have a back up collar all a moot point if these come apart accidentally
I use the Quick release and have been for over 10 years with my Saint Bernards I have a disability in my hands that prevent me to hook a normal prong collar. I have not had any of my dogs break free of their collars. Of Course they are trained better than that!
Right. I have been telling my older clients to just add a link to the end of the chain so it won't slip off of the collar. It is not slick, but it works. The collar will never fall totally off. It will be very loose, but you have some control. What can older people use? They need control even more?
you have recognized that there is stupid people using your product and as such you have removed the product , WELL DONE YOU, im going to buy something from you as you deserve more successes for being honest and having foresight .
I bought prong collars for all my dogs, an Akbash dog, pit/greyhound & GS dog.. but they are the continuous collars... no latches, and they are wonderful. have no trouble. Leerburg products and advice is awesome!
I wish I knew this before I bought one about a month ago... I am going to remove the clip and permanently close that loop of chain. THANK YOU FOR THE INFO LEERBURG!!!
Darnit, I was about to buy one of these from you. I already have a regular prong collar and I always have a backup, but my wife has trouble putting the collar on because she can't squeeze the link back together.
BGB hook would probably work for this purpose. I've never had a problem with one of those opening accidentally and I first started using that type of a hook nine years ago.
I have one Prong Collar without QR of Leerburg and is amazing corrective collar, the good quality on the product to train my dog is so important for me, and Leerburg have that quality in almost all products... Regards to all Leerburg Team!
I don't understand how there wouldn't be two opposing forces not allowing the opposing side to stay tight. Doesn't make sense unless the handler is being extremely unaware for a period of time.
His video clip is about why he does not use quick-release prong collars. It is not about whether to use them or not. The clip is not about your preferences or practices.
This video popped up on my recommendations,so I didnt look it up. I only viewed it because I had no idea who "Leerburg" is,I had never heard of them,Im in the UK,I assume Leerburg are a purely American thing?
I withdraw my previous comment. I thought he was talking about quick rlease in general. I don't use prongs or know anything about prong collars. Sorry for my misunderstanding.
Kinda late reply but the link that connects the collar in its entirety can some how catch onto the pin of the collar that you press to open and close its connection. That link can open the leash's connection & allow the collar to completely disconnect. Then you have no control of the dog
Wow, this is so so ridiculous , this is a guy trying to sell his product and not someone elses. I have used prong collars on my 4th Rottweiler over the past 35 years. I have used a small one even on my 120 pound Rott. If not being stupid and know proper way to use USE it They are the best traing collars ever.
Don't use prong collars unless you are working with an experienced handler who knows how AND WHEN to use them. They shouldn't be sold to general public in my opinion - quick release or not.
your opinion is like ' what everyone has ' in that everyone one has it. A prong collar is just another type of collar and is a tool that should be used with some guidance. RUclips has videos by experts on fitting and using a prong collar. Jeff Gellman, Tyler Muto are a good start. Having a skilled pro is a good approach, but seeing a professional fit and use a prong collar is helpful to anyone and having training experience makes it easier to understand.
Don't really understand the "quip" comment but you pretty much agreed with me except you think watching a youtube vid or 2 is enough to provide everyone with the knowledge to use them safely. It doesn't. It just gives them an excuse to THINK they know how to use them safely which is even more dangerous than thinking they don't. Too many people buy a prong collar, half-heartedly watch a video & deem themselves experts and a lot of dogs experience unnecessary pain and suffering as a result. Not just MY opinion but many experts testify to the same thing and that's why so many places around the world have BANNED their sale. They should only be used in the presence of an experienced trainer.
Gekko of course many experts will testify to that...if everyone can learn themselves how to properly use the devices, and let us not kid ourselves, its not rocket science, that means less business for them. OF COURSE many people in the field will start saying "ohh, only professionals should use this super special specialized complicated equipment."
I agree with you. We don't currently use a prong collar, but we are working with a hands on trainer and will soon incorporate a prong collar into our training.
It only comes apart if you didn't put it together right. Two collars is good for any dog in training And to use two different leashes. Not one clipped to two collars. Quick release collars are for lazy people anyways. It takes two minutes to take off a nonquick release prong collar.
Any prong collar can easily harm your dog even if properly used. I used to use them myself how ever as my skills as a dog teacher improved I no longer need them. There are better and safer ways to teach your dog.

get rid of the catch mechanism and use a small carabina clip ,problem solved!

If you're using a backup collar, what's dangerous about a prong collar coming apart?

+K9 Bug Finder nothing, smart alec. lol
Good for you! I have never liked quick release prong collars. Thanks for explaning to your customers why they are unsafe,
I fell asleep, woke up... shaved and still had 1:56 left in the video

good for him, most people wouldn't care about a product as long as they were making money from it. too bad more business people aren't like him!
Thank you - so many thought I was nuts for using a back up collar
Darnit, I was about to buy one of these from you. I already have a regular prong collar and I always have a backup, but my wife has trouble putting the collar on because she can't squeeze the link back together.
Well my dog trainer use the guick release prong collar and also a e collar and I have no problem with what I'm using
They should use bgb snap-hooks for those.
BGB hook would probably work for this purpose. I've never had a problem with one of those opening accidentally and I first started using that type of a hook nine years ago.
this has never happened to me in the the two years of having it on my German Shep
it happened to us.... there's always a first time
? Doesn't mean it hasn't or won't, buddy

i have always had lot of respect for Ed Frawley, very ethical person.
I've worked with lots of different kinds of dogs and wolves and I've never used a prong collar.
His video clip is about why he does not use quick-release prong collars. It is not about whether to use them or not. The clip is not about your preferences or practices.
This came up when I was searching for a quick release prong to buy, thank you so much!
This video popped up on my recommendations,so I didnt look it up.
I only viewed it because I had no idea who "Leerburg" is,I had never heard of them,Im in the UK,I assume Leerburg are a purely American thing?
Ive had one of the regular pinch's come apart a couple times. By the way this video could of been alot shorter
You just saved me money, thank you. +1 customer
That just happened to me yesterday. I won't use that collar again....what do .you like to replace it?.
Kristin MacDougall martingales
Sorry for late response
'Got a dog loose, doing God-knows-what' 😂
It has happened to me many times
👍Wow, thank you. 🤗💞🤗
I withdraw my previous comment. I thought he was talking about quick rlease in general. I don't use prongs or know anything about prong collars. Sorry for my misunderstanding.
I use a nylon with quick release. I'm very cautious, but if her leash gets caught, I want her to be able to break free and not choke.
Herm springer collar
the prong collar is a good and efective product but is not for any one
if you dont know how it works you have to learn before you buy
Its designed to come apart with 70lbs of pressure.
of course I have a choker and a prong collar
I can’t see anything you’re doing with your hands genius

To be honest it's not a difficult tool to use. May ąs well say you can't sell flat collars as they do more harm than a prong.
I agree with you. We don't currently use a prong collar, but we are working with a hands on trainer and will soon incorporate a prong collar into our training.
what a........... like most trainers...just make it up

they shouldn't even SELL them, in my opinion.
