Your content is so inspiring. It always makes me want to dig deeper into my on machines and pass on the knowledge. Thanks for making your channel and videos. :) I have a long way to go for my explanation on my videos, but every-time watching yours gets me inspired.
Hey! Thanks for the comment! I have uploaded 225 videos, so I have a little practice. Usually do 2 videos a week or more, minimum 1 video. My videos are getting better over time, but not with out a lot of criticism (from my self, viewers, and peers). Looks like you are being consistent so you will no doubt improve. Thanks for checking out the channel!
You have so little views, for an amazing array of useful tutorials about the force. I'm still waiting for that disk streaming thing to come out, but i've watched all your videos ... Thanks for all your work, please continue.
You're welcome. Think you would still need to put program changes in the list editor if you want to change the program per clip. But yeah, this way is effective!
yeah.. It would be much simple to directly have the name of the presets on the AKAI Force (or the MPCs since they have the same input method) we could edit simple text files for that then we could use our external devices like we use virtual instruments (with preset names and categories)
I also found a way to change a program on an external synthesizer per clip via the force, which is great for live performances! You can do this in the step sequencer and in grid view!
Is there a way to assign program changes and bank changes to a knob? This is great if you are just checking sounds, but while you are in note mode or another mode for example, and you want to switch to a different program or bank; you are basically forced to go in the track menu and change that value. While I wish there was a way to assign that to a knob; so you can automate it, and for example, have an instrument on the blofeld play up to a certain point; then you send a program change to switch to a different patch. You can do this with the MPC for example, but I was wondering if something like that can be done on the Force too.
Thanks Matt! my eyes skipped a very good detail on the midi bank change, over (nothing exciting splice thingy). This is actually cool to control my Moog. The only thing last night Force and Moog did NOT communicate thru USB. I vividly remember it worked nicely. Hope this is not part of the update and I am just missing something to click
Are you using MIDI over USB? In or Out? I wasn't aware that it was possible. You can always down grade your firmware to see if it will work again and reset your settings to default. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@MatthewStratton Yeah, both ways! I did not know I am not supposed to do that, i did not have 5-din handy when got my Force :) So reading that Force is a hub (and essentially full computer inside duh), i just connected my Moog Subsequent 37 and see what happens. Neatly enough I was playing Moog keys, recorded to Force (both midi and audio (over it track and audio in). Fixed/played more Force pads on the same Midi and fed back to Moog. So continues playing with Moog knobs recording updated audio. Now imagine you can connect not Elektron OR Blofeld, but both one over din, other over usb. And connect external controller (like Artirua Keystep/Beatstep Pro) on midi in. This is I was about to do, but decided to install the update .... LOL now only Midi A is available. Moog send to all channels to Force and Force cannot send nothing over USB outside. But should be just a matter to enable it back for Akai designers, cos it's there All cool and interesting routing options would be possible with extra USB line. I posted to Akai Support site, if you can vote for request to bring Midi over USB option back. (c.getsatisfaction.com/akai_professional/topics/force-midi-over-usb-to-external-synth)
@@samprock Cool. YEah, the MPC can accept midi through usb but not send. the force seems to be designed the same way for now. But opening communications with Akai is key if you want to see it happen for sure.
Hi Matthew very nice tutorial, I do not own a force yet but hope it will be soon, mostly I'm a performer, live I use a digital stage piano and probably a Blofeld. I would like to route everything from the force but, in this case I would have to plug both midi (which is not an issue actually) but I would like to sample live the two instruments and why not a microphone. Is there a way to do everything without and external mixer in you opinion? Thank you and keep up the good work!
Howdy Matthew, you certainly have the best tutorials on RUclips for the Akai Force. Question Here I would like to use my Roland Jd-Xi synth with the Akai, my thought was to use it as a midi into the synth but have been unable to get it to work. So I have just been using the audio out into the Akai's audio in. But this doesn't link the BPM etc. Hoping you could help with this. My goal is to be able to play them both simultaneously. Let me know if you can help otherwise keep the awesome tutorials coming.
Hey Matt, are you also able to do this over USB with the force. Also, are you getting any kind of noise increase from you mixer when you plug in USB to USB on the devices? I'm getting like a high pitch noise and not sure if its ground loop or what yet.
Hello Matthew, thank you very much for your work, I really appreciate it. Do you know if there is a way to use the Volca Sample with a single midi track in the Akai Force? The problem is that every note/button on the Sample uses a separate Midi channel and I didn't find any setting to map a pad on the Force to a specific channel within a single midi track. Cheers.
If you get some sort of MIDI splitter to split the one MIDI out, you can use 16 MIDI channels for 16 Synths. Haven't tried it yet, but in theory it should work. It works for the MPC LIVE no problem.
@@MatthewStratton - Crap. I don't need it, I won't use Spice, I get tons of legit free samples from other places (especially the taster packs from Loopmasters).
@@MatthewStratton - I don't mean to be pissy, but are you saying that Splice is forced upon Force users? I am a new fan of Akai Professional and I totally love and adore Force, but oh well. I guess it won't bog down my machine to let the Splice Integration code be introduced into it. I don't have to use it if I don't want to. I'm still trying to figure out how to format a new SD card for Force. I formatted an SD card for my Roland SP-404SX recently, and it was set up for the rows needed.

Matthew Stratton Maybe they’ll make that easier too. The mpc live can do program changes per sequence :)

Indeed, how did you do that? I know you can do that on the MPC sequencer, but I was not aware that you can do that on the Force too.
Super, and If I would like to do it on my iPad (my iPad is plugged into a Behringer is202 sound card, and connected via USBto the Akai force) ?

Are the program changes per track or per clip (like in ableton live where each clip of the same tracks can have a different program) ?
Nice, I hope it’s just as easy with the Access Virus.
Let me know how it goes. I've only tested it with the blofeld for now.
Hey Matthew, just curious if you can send program changes per clip or was it only per track?
exactly , thats a good question

Hi Matthew, did you manage to do drumkit prog-changes (load other kit) between clips. Would that work in a live performance…?
There are options for pro-changes inside of LIST EDIT mode.
Every time I hit start my ext. Synths get set back to preset 1, I can't find a solution for this, please help?
But can you sequence those parameters half way through a track, for example insert CC changes into track data to change presets/banks
You can use the list editor to add program changes per clip in the list editor.
Thanks for the video. Is that just for tracks os you can select sounds by clips?
What I show is for tracks. You can add program changes per clip in the list editor though.
Matthew Stratton ok. Great
Missing info, can the Force have multiple midi output to control the same synth? Thanks
Yes. There is one midi out with 16 channels.
Good tip is this the same in live
Yes, you can do program and banks changes in the LIVE. Here is an oldy but good video to explain it: ruclips.net/video/eRbiszxWMf8/видео.html
Interesting.
Indeed.
Turning things the other way round - how much of FORCE's internal stuff can be controlled by an EXTERNAL MIDI controller?
Notes. That's about it. Or at least as far as I have found.
thanks
🙏🏿 Nice!

It is too bad the Blofeld doesn’t have drum maps like the Q.
