@@dimitrimariutto Impossible as cold air contains more oxygen by density. More oxygen=more HP. Simple. A lot of engineering hours where spent designing the inlet tract,
It’s funny how people don’t understand science. They are convinced of power whether proven or not. They have tested cold air intakes and other mods like this “desnorkeling” and quite often there is overall no improvement and sometimes a decrease in power on the dyno. Yet “you get 5HP” is the line regardless of testing.
@@davidmoore5822 Impossible huh? I guess turbocharging is a lie then. Put a turbo on this engine w/o intercooler and I guarantee you will make more power with warmer air going in. Consider that the intake might not be pulling enough air in when stock as it is side facing and laminar airflow might create an impediment. Removing the snorkel might actually allow more air in albeit warmer as it is drawn from inside the compartment.
Good point. I didn’t have access to a Dyno as that would probably be the best way to prove there was a gain. For me this is just one part, I’ll be installing another exhaust and look at improving the intake where possible. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
I don't know if this is comparing Apples to Apples but I have a 986s and I've done the Creos and the D snorkel. The guys at my shop says that it looks like my car has some kind of a minor tune on it. Didn’t think about that for the right hand drive folks. I think you are correct about that. I’m looking at some after market exhaust options, but want to make sure I don’t get a setup with too much drone.
I tried this, about 2 days later got an engine light, reset the dtc’s and came back a day later again. Re fitted the snorkel and it has not thrown a light since, also noticed I got worse mpg without the snorkel, my 2.7 became more fuel thirsty than my 3.6 996 C4S till I put it back.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ve had it off for about 7 months with no issues and my gas mileage is a little better (although I have done some minor weight reduction, so could be more from that). Having said this, mine is a 1999 2.5-liter, so perhaps the 2.7 doesn’t like this mod. What year is your Boxster? Would be good to know for a follow up video so people are aware of any potential issues. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.
Our Ride Life Our Ride Life mine was a 2004, I thought the issue may be because the facelift models went to a drive by wire throttle and assume that because the ECU sits between you and the throttle it is less flexible in terms of mods without a map as it’s trying to cope with an unknown. Would be interesting to know if that’s the cause or if there’s more to it, I did notice my snorkel didn’t have the little dish on it and was a little different so perhaps Porsche fixed some of the issues with the original design as my stock 2.7 sounded more aggressive from my Dads 2.5, but still, with the mod on the 2.7 it did sound fantastic on acceleration, a much deeper growl, but the light bugged me more. Now I have a 996 C4S with a sports exhaust so my ich for extra noise has been satisfied.
Sorry for the late response, just catching up on comments. I’ve used some of the aftermarket air filters in other Porsches that I’ve owned and it caused smoking that didn’t stop for a while (probably from the oil). Nice I cleaned everything and went back to stock it corrected that issue. Personally, I keep with stock for the air filter, but modifications to take in cold air in a better fashion are interesting.
