While the operating system API is similar between MacOS and Linux (both are more or less POSIX compatible), on linux I need to use "cargo build --target x86_64-apple-darwin" to create a MacOS binary. And someone on a mac needs to use "cargo build --target x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu" to create a binary that I can use on Linux. Unfortunately, I was not able to test this because installing the "crosscompilation toolchain" for mac apparently requires a few copyrighted files, that need to be copied from a mac. Windows is not POSIX compatible, but this is not very important for most Rust applications. The command to build for windows is: "cargo build --target x86_64-pc-windows-gnu" I just tried this with an actual rust application that we actively use at my company, and it worked! I don't have a windows PC either to test it, but the .exe file was running fine using the windows compatibility layer Wine :-D
