  • The Outer Banks of North Carolina are on the front lines of the climate crisis. Two homes were swallowed up by the Atlantic after a May storm, spurring some in the beach community to move their residences away from the ever-encroaching waves. NBC News’ Anne Thompson reports on rising sea levels impacting the region.

      To an extent yes, but once the sea level remains constant, an equilibrium is achieved and the change isn’t that noticeable. However, rising sea levels due to man made climate change quickly cause a huge amount of erosion. It is true that erosion is a natural process, but our actions have sped it up exponentially.

      @@nt_partlycloudy21 Actually, the sea has not risen faster in the last few decades than the previous centuries. Water is a great leveler. It does not rise faster in one area than another. There are a lot of places that are stable, that the sea is only rising a little over 1 mm a year. So what's the difference? Land subsidence. This is not due to co2, but to either natural effects (such as isostatic rebound due to magma movement) or man interfering with nature, such as preventing river deltas from flooding, which adds much to the surface to replace the water driven out by gravity, or draining a swamp that feeds and aquafer, or just pumping the water out, leaving space gravity fills by pulling the land downwards. This can be seen dramatically in Miami Florida and LA California.

      Miami has been sinking for years for very well understood reasons but they`re calling that "climate change" too. We had one major hurricane this year and of course they blamed "climate change" for it. It doesn`t matter what happens now...it`s all blamed on "climate change" by these fanatics. California was telling electric car owners to NOT charge them recently because their weak "green energy" power grid wasn`t able to handle it. The alpine glaciers around the world that they`re panicking over formed quite recently in recorded history and destroyed a lot of communities and towns despite the prayers of priests. They started slowly melting before cars were even invented. Grapes were once grown hundreds of miles north of current locations. Sea levels rose over 400 feet in the past 13,000 years without any help from humans. The only reason civilization was able to form was a highly unusual period of climate stability. Ice and mud core records show very wild swings in temperature before this and we can expect this instability to return eventually. What we should be preparing for are events like what happened in 536 A.D. and "The Year Without A Summer." But we aren`t.

    Moving your house back isn't going to help, you need to move it to higher ground or you're going to be doing this every few years. In the next 5 years alone, we're supposed to see up to 10 inches of sea-level rise due to glacial melting and sea temps being upwards of 8 degrees in the middle of January at our poles. Keep in mind that the oldest glaciers in the world are only about 65,000 years old, which means that 70,000 years ago we didn't have ice on our polar caps...like, at all.

    • @roberthicks1612
      @roberthicks1612 2 года назад

      Get real, sea levels only rise at a rate of 1 to 3 mm per year. It would take a minimum of 40 years to rise 5 inches or 80 years for the 10 you claim will happen in 5 years. Of course, if you include the subsidence cause by pulling water out of the aquafers, it could happen in 20 years.
      "Keep in mind that the oldest glaciers in the world are only about 65,000 years old" There are glaciers in Antarctica that are hundreds of thousands of years. 15000 years ago, we were in an glacial period, where ice was up to 2 miles thick, covering most of North America and Europe. We are in an ice age, that is by definition a period where there are ice at the poles, and in the alps. This ice age has lasted for millions of years.

      @@roberthicks1612 With math and history skills like that, I'd be afraid to comment on a 10 year olds post.
      Human's have been around for 1.5 million years, during that time we have seen 10 non-glacial periods, the last of which was in or around 100,000 years ago and it was recorded in a book you have most likely read...
      If you don't believe the bible however, you can also head over to Cambridge University in the UK to see all the artifacts their team recovered from the Arctic, that stuff has all been carbon dated to around 100,000 years ago and shows proof of habitation and civilization.
      And if you're still not convinced, I'm pretty sure we can even find proof locally through fossilized remains of plant matter.
      Oh...and just for clarification...the Arctic loses it's cap first and is usually more tropical during non-glacial periods...based on fossilized proof that is.

    • @roberthicks1612
      @roberthicks1612 2 года назад

      @@sneakydudesgarage7121 I have no idea what makes you think that I am a 10 year old since I am the one with the science.
      The last time the artic was tropical was 55 million years ago, not 100k. I have no idea what you are going on about, since it is obvious that humans and our ancestors have been around for many millions of years.
      Geological data shows that the earth has been in a ice age for several million years. There is no evidence that during that time, the polar ice cap ever disappeared. There are glaciers in Antarctica that are several hundred thousand years and that is as deep as we can drill in the time we can do so. Even then we did not get to the bottom. The ice age is broken into Glacial and Interglacial period. The periods glacial ADVANCES is called glacial periods, but they are still in the ice age. When the glaciers retreat its called the interglacial period. 100k years ago was the last interglacial period. It still had glaciers, just as ours does.
      IF you want to know what caused the ice age, its two things. First the Antarctic plate moved over the south pole interrupting the exchange of heat from the equator to the north pole via a belt similar to the gulf stream. The disruption occurred about 100 million years ago as the first part of the continent moved over the pole. That is when temperatures began to fall. 40 million years later, just about the time the temperature began to stabilize, the Indian plate crashed into the Eurasian plate, creating the Himalayan mountains.
      As to our ancestors, we can trace our ancestors all the way back to when they had to hid in trees to avoid dinosaurs. I really could not tell you off hand when they started walking upright, but I know homosapien were not the first to do so. If memory serves me, we are the 7 species to do so.
