One and only reason to get this is for the raptor body, end of it. For everything else the Slash ultimate is a more valuable choice in every singe aspect, cool vid.
The RaptoR looks awesome and performs decent from what I’ve heard about it. However, I do have a few things I think Traxxas could have done better with it: 1) The most underwhelming part about the RaptoR to me is the motor. The Velineon 3500 is fine for a Slash, but I think it’s not the right motor for this truck. Traxxas’ Velineon 540XL would be much better suited for the larger tires and longer chassis, being able to deliver the torque needed for the RaptoR to perform as it should. 2) Traxxas should have put the GTR shocks on it. The Ultra-shocks are obsolete. They’re not good for anything more powerful than an XL-5, and the fact they come on VXL like the Slash, Hoss, and RaptoR is ridiculous. They don’t absorb impact well enough, and they’re not very durable. The GTR shocks, or maybe a redesigned version of the Uktra-shocks would have been much better. 3) The servo. In the video, it appears to be a 2075, which is underpowered even in a regular Slash 4X4 VXL. It should at least be a 2075X, which doesn’t have to give as much to protect the gears from stripping since it’s metal-geared. 4) Cooling fans. The Hoss comes with an ESC fan, and remains the only vehicle in Traxxas’ 3S lineup to come with any cooling fan. All the 3S models, but especially this truck as its longer length and larger tires would put more strain on the motor, should come with cooling fans for both the heat sink and motor. 5) A roll cage. The Hoss and Rustler 4X4’s both come with roll cages, and it prolongs the lifespan of the body quite a bit, as well as stopping it from making such a loud sound on jumps. Plus, for this longer body, a roll cage would help support it and prevent cracks from developing in the center, where there is no support.
It may be a slsh, but its not for bashing or racing,it's appealing to the scale market to tow a trailer, drive around slightly rough terrain, and maybe a few small jumps,i personally think thats dumb, but its also dumb to think you can hit ramps full speed or take to the skate park.
My dad has a 17’ raptor in black and this raptor r in black looks amazing. Just great. But I really don’t want the black cus ima get really upset when I roll it or scratch it up :( I just went with blue
My slash lived 3 lifetimes! 2 at skateparks, It’s still alive, after a few 3s systems I rebuilt the diffs and installed a 6s system, then dropped to a 4s system. It’s never “broken in half”. Same chasis original. Lcg. 4x4 was a platinum. I agree it’s a cool truck but missing suspension travel and over all speed. As for the guy that questioned your driving….. he’s a wiener!
That’s awesome hahah the ogs we’re definitely fun trucks and arguably ahead of their time! For sure, I have some testing in the works to update you all with soon 😎 He thought he wanted in on some action, until action wanted him 😬
@@QuadeCrabtree your track look sweet by the way! And also a guy came into my shop today, I own a hobby shop in Florida, and said he needed parts for the new raptor, and begins to tell me that his new raptor R with a vxl3s system in a bigger truck is gonna be faster than my 4s spectrum system in an older slash? I said how ya figure that? Yours is bigger and heavier? And has a smaller motor? With a slipper clutch set up? Mines 4s and center diff! I just had to sell him parts and nod!!
But the baja rey isn't in the same category is it??? Baja rey is a desert truck this one is a pro scale realism focused truck with some speed. the baj rey 2.0 is clocked at 55mph from the box but the raptor r can go over 60mph with the 19t spped pinion which is inculded if i know right ruclips.net/video/SdW5v6FhQDg/видео.html video of speed test. I don't know if the baja rey gives you optional gears but for sure it will beat the raptor r in an offroad condition any day.
Cool rig but I’m tired of the slash platform! Traxxas has used the crap out of it…..does it work? Sure! But Traxxas could step it up a bit for the price point these trucks are at…..Traxxas reminds me of Taco Bell….same stuff just packaged differently!
I respectfully disagree. My Brother owns a Slash 4X4 VXL, and I own a Hoss 4X4 VXL. The Hoss is based on the Slash platform, but it is entirely its own truck. The Slash platform needs some improvements (my brother has broken driveshafts, broken shock caps, stripped spur gears, etc), but I don’t think it’s a bad platform. It is a little procey for trucks like the Slash and Rustler, but I think the Hoss is much more worth the price because it’s got heavier duty parts and the Velineon 540XL
I was interested in this until I heard it had a slash chassis or platform! I seen this complaint not only from myself and others but many times online that they break in half very easy. I've had several slashes that I got rid of because they don't hold up very well to the kind of stuff I had it doing. Only problem I have with Traxxas is nobody makes after market alloy chassis! Otherwise I love them
Yes, it seems the truck geometry does not agree with a stretched flat chassis like this and very limited suspension travel. Hard to help make the truck behave good with shocks as the design seems to be the issue.
@@BrentBarnsdaleIt’s better than most metal chassis, which are expensive and bend relatively easily, unless you go with really expensive ones. And the Slash is primarily a Short-course truck. It’s not really meant for huge jumps at a skatepark. It’s not designed to hold up to that sort of abuse.
@@BrentBarnsdale Believe what you want to believe I guess, but if plastic is so junk, then why does Arrma use it in a lot of their vehicles too? Sure, the 6s and 8s cars have metal chassis’s, but the 4S Outcast has a plastic one. The 3S Granite and Big Rock do. Plastic does break easier than metal in some situations, but metal bends and is not easy to bend back, and costs quite a lot more than plastic. For example, the Traxxas X-Maxx chassis is $22 and the Kraton 8s chassis is $115, so you could buy 5 X-Maxx chassis’s for that price. And also with the chassis of those two trucks, you need to upgrade the Kraton’s to a better one if you’re going to extreme bash, since it likes to bend, while an X-Maxx chassis doesn’t require many upgrades to stand up against the abuse
Because of the scale. I don’t think we can technically say one is better or worse than the other. They are similar in appearance but significantly different in performance wise due to their scale and the udr being a much heavier vehicle. But if it was up to my opinion, I would say the udr is a better performer than the raptor r if you were specifically talking side by side all the technicality’s put aside.
So iv never owned a slash. i was more of a rustler guy...that being said should i just get this as my first "slash" or is it nit the same experince let me know how they compare befor i get one plzz 😅
Personally if your looking into a slash I would go for the 4x4 Ultimate. Your not gonna have the fancy raptor body or BFG tires this has but you can always add them later on. I feel the money is way better spent on a Ultimate and saving the extra coin for some upgrades you like. While already receiving some good upgrades from factory 🤙🏼 Lmk what you decide 😬
@@QuadeCrabtree I agree with you 100% I was leaning more on the 4x4 already but now that you say it your right I can just build one possibly just as good I don't need the fancy body first go around anyway 😁
So.. only a Raptor in appearance with a "standard" truggy-style 4WD RC layout... An IFS/solid rear setup like the UDR or Element RC Enduro Trailrunner would have been much more realistic. Maybe exchanging a bit of handling for realism, but would have been much more interesting...
I appreciate you not blowing Traxxas just because something new from Traxxas came out and your trying to get their attention as an influencer or something so you get product for free at some point. YES! I completely agree. Unfortunately at this point that leaves us with a V expensive body 😅
Longer wheelbase and bigger tires make it
Agreed it overheats every time I use it

Well said brother.
I split mine in half lol , so avoid big jumps and skateboard parks 😅
