I took care of my mom for 4 years. Before her diagnosis she was a vibrant, social 72 yr old with many friends and neighbors. Little by little they would stop calling, stop dropping by,and stop inviting her out. It got to the point where I would have her outside and neighbors would walk by and look the other way. I couldn't believe it. She's passed away now,but it took a tremendous toll on me. Besides mentally and physically, I've lost all my friends along the way.

My 94 year old mother has stage 5 Alzheimers and has lived on her own for the last 32 years since dad died. She is now in hospital after a fall a month ago which resulted in a small spinal fracture which will heal with rest and physiotherapy. Mother is fiercely independent and even though she had carers twice daily and a care package from Adult Social Care Services, she still insisted she could do everything on her own. Mother is deaf, incontinent, confused and now, very much immobile. She is anti social and loathed the company of elderly patients when introduced to community hub activities after her diagnosis in 2014. Her years at home were reduced to visits from her carers and family and a weekly shopping trip with my brother. Mother is now waiting for rehabilitation and respite care once she has been discharged from hospital and her mobility issues are addressed. She wants to go back home but sadly, this will not occur. We, her family ,hope to see mother settled in a Care Home. The very last placed mother would wish to be.

My elderly friend was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year. All his friends and even family members avoid him. He is very lonely because his friends don't know how to communicate with him.

My sister has mixed symtoms. She started out not remembering words, which made it hard to communicate with people. She has slowly gotten worse, like not remembering how to drive where she wants to go. She can't pay her bills and I do that for her but it's hard. She loses everything. Doesn't eat much. I take food over. She loves to work in her yard and has 2 small dogs
I'm not sure if she should live a lone but she is insistent. What do u think¿
