well the commander is not that dense since he is self aware of most Nikke's feelings for him and even have some of them as Friends with benefits status. It is just he does not want a Harem and does his best to avoid making a harem but only ends up making a harem unintentionally due to how nice he is compared to well most of humanity that is left alive.
