I agree with you greyhounds are very chill and love attention and they really don’t get Zumiez so they’re great dogs for apartments but you obviously will have to take them for walks
“They really don’t get zumiez “ Are you sure about that? They definitely do, they can also get quite excited and nip in a play session. Honestly great dogs but they’re not chill 100% of the time.
Yea greyhound. Very chilled quite rarely bark, unless it's needs to alert you, but usually mine have alerted me with a very high quite whistle sound. Full of love. Superb choice
I live in an Apartment and have a Labrador. The Apartment isn’t a big Apartment but its not small either. He doesnt bark, never destroyed anything at home besides his toys, is gentile with the cat we already had and super intelligent. We live near a park and he goes at least 4 times a day for a walk and 2 of thoes for over 1-2 hours. However I work remotely and 90% of my time I work at my grand parents house which is huuge and has a huge outdoor space aswell and I take him with me so he can play with the other dogs. I‘ve never met a happier dog in my life than my Labrador.
Whippet! As long as you can take them for a run once a day someplace? They sleep a LOT, easy to train and sweet natured. However, I caution as puppies they are like flying squirrels for a while.
Living in a 2 bed flat with my brother we have a young XL bully and a Rottweiler, it works very well the dogs are happy and calm so are we. It can be very close quarters, but it works we take them on at least one good long walk a day and other smaller walks so they can’t do their business and stretch their legs
That's because you walk them a lot it could also be because they are just more chill than most dogs of their breed. Either way great job on keeping them both happy.
I have a husky in an apartment. As long as you exercise any dog enough during the day, they’ll sleep the whole night away. I take him on 2 long walks, 2 short walks, and sometimes to the dog park to burn off extra energy if I feel he needs it. Huskies aren’t destructive if you learn how to read them and take care of them properly.
I am not sure if I have a malamute or a husky but, he is playful when I am around the apartment , when i am gone he actually behaves better and doesn’t cry or howl, doesn’t even destroy things
Daschunds really need more recognition as chill dogs. I've had to and both just wanted to cuddle or chill. When ever someone came over I did not have to worry about them causing any disturbances. My chihuahua on the other runs all over the house and yard while barking.
Id recommend a saint bernard if you want a gaint breed for your apartment! Theyre extremely friendly with people, a bit small than the mastiff breeds, and are very quiet. They do require to be brushed atleast 3 times a week though.
French Bulldogs all the way. My Frenchie adapted so well, I work nightshifts so I'll walk my wee guy in the morning after work or around 4 if it's my first shift. He's really sociable but very chilled.
I have an Australian cattle dog mix in my apartment, and the only reason it works is she gets to run to her hearts content off leash at the barn where I board my horses every single day. Don’t worry, she is used to the horses and the horses are used to her. They don’t bother each other, and I have permission from the barn manager to do this. She looooves zooming around in the pastures and playing with my 1.5 yr old horse (they keep a good 10-15ft away from each other during this where they take turns chasing each other. If one gets too close, they quickly change direction so they don’t run into the other).
W take putting Greyhound on the list. They’re oddly content to be couch potatoes despite being able to potentially outrun horses. Just because they can run doesn’t mean they always want/need to! There are slow dogs that love to run (mainly certain smaller breeds)
I have a golden retriever, about to add another in a 950 sq. Ft. Apartment and all is well. Going on long walks, and playing fetch makes it easily doable.
My perfect dog is 100% biased, I have 6 of them and I’ve bred them, as well as trained them. Personally: Bichon, both the Havanais and Frisé are some of the best breeds for apartments I am biased towards the Bichon Frisé again because of my affiliation above They are small, 30-40cm, they love people, they can be loud, but you can definitely train them to not bark, and it’s mostly a thing when people enter your home. Breed wise they are not prone to health defects (again, this depends from breeder to breeder) and are hypoallergenic, meaning almost every family can have one. Only downside is fur care, I spend a lot of time brushing and washing mine Also with enough training and conditioning (which the breed is fairly easy to train) they can be in bags for public transport My oldest dog, Alpha (14 years old) has served me as my service dog for my autism all her life, she was born in my childhood bedroom to our previous dog and has since become the matriarch for my dogs, as well as my loyal companion, she has been with me through school, high school, and now will be there when I enter university in September, she is the perfect dog to me. I am biased as shit 😂
And here I am with a Border Collie, a BC x Rat Terrier, and did have a Cattle Dog cross! In all fairness, though, when I got them I was in a house with a yard. The baby is 12!
I’m honestly thinking of getting a somewhat higher energy dog for my apartment. I spend a lot of time walking around the city and would like a dog that can keep up.
If you do have an active breed in an apartment make sure to take them out for long walks or runs regularly. Any dog can be great but some breeds usually need a lot more work especially in certain environments. With the exception of a few breeds. For example I would not recommend and husky for an apartment no matter the temperment (even though huskies are 100% amazing when properly taken care of and with the right person.) because of their distinct and very loud wailing cry.
My friend has a pretty small apartment and she has greyhound. And that's true they are really lazy and as they get older they don't want to go outside. And they are tmreally shivering a lot outside
In another short titled : "I would never own these dogs", the first dog you mentioned is French bulldog and here you are suggesting French bulldog for apartment. I need genuine advice. I will be first time dog owner. I want to be a good parent to my dog, but at the same time, I have to manage other things. So please suggest a easier, low energy breed of dog .
I mean, even if they are the fastest dogs in the world fass run usually equals a short sprint with lots of resting for other animals like the cheetah so I'm not surprised seeing it applied to dogs.
I live in a city with no houses at all, full apartment buildings (like most cities in my country, houses are in smaller towns, some very close to cities anyways). There's around 1million people living, and about 200k dogs & 7k house cats (plus the maaaany that aren't officially registered), actually the mayor mentioned recently there's more dogs than kids in the city (in order to create more spaces for dogs, which my city is already full of, i mean anyone has a big park 10min or less from home, my whippet runs kilometers daily fetching and playing with other dogs, which are hundreds they socialize a looooooot 4 or 5 times a day, they even make their own groups and "gangs" curiously joining by similar sizes & energy levels, therefore my whippet's friends are mostly hound and retriever types that share his love for running and playing, and then laying down). And what happens to the flat-faced breeds left unwanted with no homes? It's a double-edged sword. Stop breeding flat-faced breeds to prevent dogs from suffering health issues, but leave the puppies and dogs already born unadopted with no home and stuck in shelters. OR allow the breeding to happen and give these dogs homes, love, and care but with a myriad of health issues. It can work with terriers, you just gotta put in the work. I know someone who lives in an apartment and who used to have a terrier. There were no problems at all, an amazing dog.
