Maybe the 1 & only world super star Germany ever had. Not the best voice on earth she had, yes that's right. But she compensated this fact with her brilliant, charismatic presence. 💖

Nina Hagen has worldwide notoriety...pretty sure she was inspired by Marlene.

I believe Emil Jannings qualifies. He was the first Best Actor Oscar winner. Later, his comic/tragic performance in "The Blue Angel" was superb. Of course, now he is forgotten except by film enthusiasts, but many great performers are. Everything is now. Five years ago is ancient history.

    They call me naughty Lola
    The wisest girl on earth
    At home my pianola
It works for all it's worth
The boys all love my music I can't keep them away
So my little pianola keeps working night and day

Now I tell you a secret
    Don't hammer on the keys
For a little pianissimo is always bound to please
Lola, Lola - everybody knows me
Ask the first man you see
He knows how to find me
Old men, young men, all fall in to my net
they all want me to pet

Thank you so much for sharing this performance! I love her energy in this show. Do you plan to share the entire alternative show, or is this one of the few songs to still exist?

@@RenaissanceEarCandy I don't think Marlene herself would call herself a singer but rather a performer, an entertainer... not the same thing.

It is sad this was filmed so late in her stage career , five years before she was vibrant, but this seems ossified, and lacking in magic.

She planned to do a Christmas Special on tv in 1966-1968, dont remember the exact year. But Cohen mixed up her plans sadly, and she was wary afraid of him. Sadly it didn't came into reality. Also she planned to do a concert in Olympia Paris in 1971 with Orson Welles as director, sadly it also didn't worked out. Also with Welles she planned to tape her Paris shows (there were a whole 2 week shows, not just one) in 1959 at Theatre l'etoile, it was even mentioned in newspapers that she gonna tape that shows. There are also rumors that there were a live broadcast from Spain in 1960 (just rumors - I only know about mention of it in the Spain newspaper of that time). Therr were also a taping of her performances in South America (Brazil??) In 1959, but fire destroyed the soundstage lately with all tapes. Also she wanted to film her show in around 1964 in Europe in Italy (for that info I am not sure). Also she did 1962 tv show perfomamce in Spain a few songs and also in 1965 from Drury Lane London live show in the memory of Jack Hilton with other artists.

She still had it, IMO. She was never an operatic vocalist- her singing voice was an extension of her singular personality.

    • @savelysavely2483
      @savelysavely2483 Год назад

@@frankiebowie6174 compare her there and in 1963 at Royal Variety. Yes she still has it, but it's not as super great as in 1963. Also listen her in 1966 from Warszawie (Warsaw) she sounds as great as she was always, but in 1967 were her last shows with Burt before he left her (a couple of occasional shows with him in 1968) she was very upset , he was everything for her. She herself in her book admits that she perfomed like a robot after he left he, so.. And her image was always about youth and being vibrant, 1967 were probably the last year when she was like that , slow fading after that
