But nothing is said of RETROGRADE EJACULATION which is usually a side effect of TURP procedure. It's OK if you're 77 years old but I feel bad for 50 year olds who are still young enough to possibly impregnate their partner but that won't be possible after TURP. Ejaculatory dysfunction is common after TURP, why isn't this brought out -

I have a large median lobe and high bladder neck which is causing all of my issues. Essentially, flow is cut off due to the lobe. Removal of the lobe and bladder neck is required. Why would a surgeon remove tissue around the verumontanum when its not an issue. The TURP procedures that I've seen show the tissue removal of the verumontanum and lateral lobes. I'm confused, why is it the standard to remove tissue which is not causing an issue? 55g prostate, 4 cystoscopies all show the same thing, large median lobe and high bladder neck. 3 uro's all want to take out healthy tissue not causing any blockage.
Wish you were closer (in FL), I'd definitely come see you.

No change in sexual function is somewhat misleading . Retrograde Ejaculation is a side-effect of TURP. Isn’t this a change in sexual function? Also, can normal ejaculation be restored?

Yes. I had it done last year. I miss ejaculation.

Yes it can and does restore to normal as mine did. When i say normal, i mean i produce less than i used to anyway. I think it does depend on how much tissue is removed from the neck of the urethra to bladder.

I had a TURP at the age of 50, ten years ago and it was the biggest mistake I made in my life. I still blame my urologist who told me that the sex and the feeling will be exactly the same. Well, I had a big surprise when I had sex the first time after the TURP. The feeling was exactly the same until that climax. That was the most pathetic climax I had and even worse, it never got any better. So, I'm just surprised at the fact that anybody can think that a climax with the force that semen is shooting out will be exactly the same as a climax where something flows calmly back into the bladder. Of course, my urologist never heard of any other men with the same problem and when I told him that I can bring him two others with the same problem, he got very angry. I got the idea that he doesn't know that there is a difference between erection and climax. I just had to write this as It definitely made my life better for not running to the toilet so many times, but if I knew that I would never have a good climax again I wouldn't have done it at all.

Orgasm for me went from a 10 to about a 2 - hardly worth the effort and profoundly depressing.
Loss of ejaculation a MUCH bigger psychological issue than I anticipated. As a teenager starting to ejaculate for me marked the beginning of manhood - when that suddenly disappeared I felt like I was no longer a " real" man.

I knew the possible side effects of the TURP as it related to sexual function but when you are suffering daily and nightly from little to no urine flow you have to weigh the pros and cons. I also knew that at age 61 sexual function was not as important to me as being able to pee. I was able to ejaculate 4 weeks after the surgery with erection, ejaculation and climax. The event irritated my prostate and caused urine in the blood the next day. I tried again at week 6 and this time there was no bleeding. There is also a certain amount of surgical ability/skill in the equation. Some urologists are better than others. Try and do your research.

Dr. Lin must be doing a better job than other urologist if the men have better sexual function post TURP. Brother in law is 4 month post TURP and still wearing protective underwear and taking Flomax and dutusteride. He’s miserable and regrets the surgery.

I’m experiencing penis ‘turtling’ six weeks after the TURP surgery. Is this something that will eventually correct itself? Thank you, Paul

Hard to believe this. TURP, though is the gold standard for urologists, is a very invasive procedure. There are now so many new procedures
