Hello, wanted to know if Preppy certification for anyone who has successfully completed the course; does it state Auburn university or Preppy on certification? What are the major differences in programs?
I’ve been working as the sole coder for a surgeon for 5 years. So I already have the experience. I am planning on taking the test soon. How do I get the A removed because I already have the required experience??
Hello Victoria, I wanted to reach out to you about a question I had regarding coding certification. About four years ago, I took a coding class and received a certificate, but I never took the exam to become certified. I'm now interested in pursuing certification and was wondering if you had any advice on how to go about it. Thank you.
do you think i can buy books separately and self-teach, and then when ready to take test, i can sign up as a member wit appc then take test? or should i just sign up through apcc and do everything under them? please help I am planning to purchase today! they have a sale!
Question...Unfortunately, I will have to switch my current career and I've been looking into medical billing and coding for some time now. I can't really afford to pay for classes. Do you think I can pass the class just by watching your videos and having some knowledge of medical terminology? I have all three books already as well for 2024.
It's highly unlikely to pass the certification exams relying solely on my videos and your current books. While having the code books and some medical terminology knowledge is helpful, they don't teach coding fundamentals comprehensively. You'll need structured coursework and textbooks to fully grasp the necessary skills. My videos can complement your studies, but they're not a substitute for a formal course.
So question, will it be spilt up into sections or are you just going to have to know by the codes provided? And will there be any back and forth if you are taking it remotely? Also, can you skip a question and come back to it or you have to answer it right then?
Does anyone know if I should schedule my exam a few months ahead or a few days ahead? I would love to get certified as soon as I'm done with my course but I would be disappointed if there was a delay.
Seeing that my BA and Masters are in English, is it in my best interest to enroll in a training program that includes courses on anatomy and such? If so, what kind of program do you recommend?
Sorry to hear you were not successful on your last exam attempt. I have a video where I discuss my best tips for how to tackle your next attempt: ruclips.net/video/VT05L6X0iUo/видео.html I think you'll find it helpful. At this time, I am not offering individual assistance or tutoring.
For the question about the 55 year old pt receiving ongoing chemotherpay for primary malignant neoplasm of the liver supposed to be Z51.12 and not Z51.11. Z51.11 is for antineoplastic radiation and not chemo or am I seeing this wrong😅
Medical coding requires separate training and certification from what you're learning in pharmacy. To start, you can look into medical coding certification programs like the CPC (Certified Professional Coder) and take courses that focus on coding guidelines, anatomy, and healthcare regulations. Once certified, you’ll be well-prepared to enter the field!
The AAPC has stated they will let everyone know well in advance when and IF fill-in-the blank comes out, but it was NOT in the 2024 study materials. They had previously indicated the study materials would be changed prior to adding in any fill-in-the-blank questions. For the most accurate information regarding the current format of the CPC exam, please reference the AAPC website here: www.aapc.com/resources/cpc-exam-faqs
What if you have taken a class m, got a certificate of completion but you did not finish paying for the class? Basically you finish the class before you’re done making the payments. Will that hinder you from being able to take the test?
It won't hinder your ability to take the test, but you may run into issues when you want to get your apprentice status removed and need the paperwork from them. Or you just have to wait until you have enough job experience to remove the apprentice status.
Question? All the certification is online do we still need to purchase books? I have old books but when we complete test how will we look up codes online?
You still need to purchase books, they are needed but not provided for the exam. For 2024 you will need either 2024 or 2023 books, those are the only years permitted.
"Handwritten notes are acceptable in the coding books only if they pertain to daily coding activities. Questions from the Study Guides, Practice Exams, or the Exam itself are prohibited. Tabs may be inserted, taped, pasted, glued, or stapled in the manuals so long as the obvious intent of the tab is to earmark a page with words or numbers, not supplement information in the book. Altering, whiting out, painting, or printing over any pages within the code books (e.g., marketing pages, table of contents, reference pages, etc.) to supplement information is prohibited. No materials (other than tab dividers) may be inserted, taped, pasted, glued, or stapled in the manuals." Ref: www.aapc.com/training/cpc-exam-faqs.aspx
The exams get a refresh every January 1st to reflect the current calendar year's code sets. Feel free to use last year's books, but just know you might be at a slight disadvantage. For the full scoop, check out AAPC's official guidance: www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx " What year's books should I use? All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets, so we strongly suggest you use the current year’s books. The previous calendar year’s books may be used on an exam, but you would be at obvious disadvantage doing so. The upcoming year’s books are not allowed for exam use. The exams are updated every January for the new code sets."
Is it recommended that you go to tech school first for medical office and billing administration course only ? Or we can opt for medical billing and coding straight up without having any experience in medical administration? Please reply ❤
I don't see why you would need to go to tech school for either of those. They are very basic knowledge - plus a lot of jobs will train you for that position. Spend your time learning coding and you will benefit a lot more! ;-)
To learn medical coding, I recommend the Step-by-Step medical coding books by Bucks: You will also need a CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM book as those are the coding books required. 2024 CPT - amzn.to/3vdquX3 2024 ICD-10-CM - amzn.to/483TsHv 2024 HCPCS - amzn.to/47eHjOz Step-By-Step Medical Coding Textbook 2024 - amzn.to/48vfkLG Step-By-Step Medical Coding Workbook 2024 - amzn.to/41DaxFI
You can use one prior calendar year's books or current year. There is no variance by state as this is not a state exam or state board, it is a certification exam. Feel free to use last year's books, but just know you might be at a slight disadvantage. For the full scoop, check out AAPC's official guidance: www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx " What year's books should I use? Absolutely, the CPC exam is indeed an open book test, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's a walk in the park! It's a challenging exam that requires a solid understanding of medical coding concepts, guidelines, practices, as well as anatomy and terminology. Being a member and paying the fee is just the start. You'll need to dive deep into the study materials, get a good grasp of the coding systems, and practice a lot to navigate through those books efficiently during the exam. It's all about how well you understand and apply the knowledge, not just having it at your fingertips.

@destinygivens9789 Victoria has a breakdown of the new ICD for 2024 i just wrote them in my 2023 and there's other places on youtube where you can find 2024 CPT codes
Plz make one video on Quick review on guideline
Could you do an anesthesia time calculation code. Also CPT codes that require different modifiers?
Hello, wanted to know if Preppy certification for anyone who has successfully completed the course; does it state Auburn university or Preppy on certification? What are the major differences in programs?
I’ve been working as the sole coder for a surgeon for 5 years. So I already have the experience. I am planning on taking the test soon. How do I get the A removed because I already have the required experience??
The volume is so low. I wish I could hear you better. Thank you for your videos.
Hi! I want to start to study for the CPC certification. Should I get the 2024 books or wait until the 2025 version comes out?
Thanks for making this video. Your volume is really low in this video, making it hard to hear you, not sure if you are aware of this.
Sorry about that, I'm going to have to talk to my editor about the volume issues.
Hello Victoria, I wanted to reach out to you about a question I had regarding coding certification. About four years ago, I took a coding class and received a certificate, but I never took the exam to become certified. I'm now interested in pursuing certification and was wondering if you had any advice on how to go about it.
Thank you.
Are the AAPC cpc practice exams broken down by category? I want to practice icd-10-cm scenarios
Yes, they are! And there was a big update to them recently so I'll be sharing more about the practice exams!
Where
did you get your scenarios and also great job?
I made them.
do you think i can buy books separately and self-teach, and then when ready to take test, i can sign up as a member wit appc then take test? or should i just sign up through apcc and do everything under them? please help I am planning to purchase today! they have a sale!
Think in the same thing however I’m going to self study order my books thru them n use a person who offer classes via zoom and pay weekly
So I know you work from home. But do you make your own schedule?
So question, will it be spilt up into sections or are you just going to have to know by the codes provided? And will there be any back and forth if you are taking it remotely? Also, can you skip a question and come back to it or you have to answer it right then?
You can move around the exam and none of the questions are labeled by section.
Does anyone know if I should schedule my exam a few months ahead or a few days ahead? I would love to get certified as soon as I'm done with my course but I would be disappointed if there was a delay.
Please explain ccs exam of AHIMA
I do not hold that certification and am not suited to provide information on it.
Seeing that my BA and Masters are in English, is it in my best interest to enroll in a training program that includes courses on anatomy and such? If so, what kind of program do you recommend?
Hey, where do I go to purchase the prep class?
Please also do a video on the RHIT exam.
Thank you for the suggestion -- I will add it on to my list of video ideas.
Victoria do you provide training for same day surgery coding
I failed my first CPC exams yesterday. I’m really struggling with CPT. I need help!

@@ContempoCoding Thank you Victoria. I’m hopeful that the video you’ve shared will help me 😀
For the question about the 55 year old pt receiving ongoing chemotherpay for primary malignant neoplasm of the liver supposed to be Z51.12 and not Z51.11. Z51.11 is for antineoplastic radiation and not chemo or am I seeing this wrong😅
I've not so much idea about medical coding but want to build my career in this field. What should I do please guide me... I'm pursuing B pharmacy.
Do you know if I need training for same day surgery coding where can I get training?
Mam is that confirm they will add fill in the blanks in CPC exam
The AAPC has stated they will let everyone know well in advance when and IF fill-in-the blank comes out, but it was NOT in the 2024 study materials. They had previously indicated the study materials would be changed prior to adding in any fill-in-the-blank questions. For the most accurate information regarding the current format of the CPC exam, please reference the AAPC website here:

Do you do any one on one consultations?
I need extra help on this exam and I need to practice for the exam...help

can i write some notes on book with pen, or marker .will they alllow me to exam
"Handwritten notes are acceptable in the coding books only if they pertain to daily coding activities. Questions from the Study Guides, Practice Exams, or the Exam itself are prohibited. Tabs may be inserted, taped, pasted, glued, or stapled in the manuals so long as the obvious intent of the tab is to earmark a page with words or numbers, not supplement information in the book. Altering, whiting out, painting, or printing over any pages within the code books (e.g., marketing pages, table of contents, reference pages, etc.) to supplement information is prohibited.
No materials (other than tab dividers) may be inserted, taped, pasted, glued, or stapled in the manuals."

I have code books for 2023 should these be fine to use for the exam?
The exams get a refresh every January 1st to reflect the current calendar year's code sets. Feel free to use last year's books, but just know you might be at a slight disadvantage. For the full scoop, check out AAPC's official guidance:
www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx
" What year's books should I use?
All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets, so we strongly suggest you use the current year’s books. The previous calendar year’s books may be used on an exam, but you would be at obvious disadvantage doing so. The upcoming year’s books are not allowed for exam use. The exams are updated every January for the new code sets."
how much do i pay for 6 months class in your class and get certificate thanks for the reply
Spend your time learning coding and you will benefit a lot more! ;-)
What's the best book in 2024 to buy for this?
To learn medical coding, I recommend the Step-by-Step medical coding books by Bucks:
You will also need a CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM book as those are the coding books required.
2024 CPT - amzn.to/3vdquX3
2024 ICD-10-CM - amzn.to/483TsHv
2024 HCPCS - amzn.to/47eHjOz
Step-By-Step Medical Coding Textbook 2024 - amzn.to/48vfkLG
Step-By-Step Medical Coding Workbook 2024 - amzn.to/41DaxFI

I thought it had to be current year books? does this vary by state?
You can use one prior calendar year's books or current year. There is no variance by state as this is not a state exam or state board, it is a certification exam. Feel free to use last year's books, but just know you might be at a slight disadvantage. For the full scoop, check out AAPC's official guidance:

so help me understand, you can take the test like an open book? Just be a member pay the fee and get certified???🤔
🤔interesting... Im gonna join the site purchase the package and learn on my own. Thanks!😁
My exam was on 29th feb. I failed by getting 68 marks😢

If I take the CPC on line, will I still get 2 attempts to pass?
If you bought a two-attempt voucher, yes. They have recently started doing 1-attempt only vouchers again.
Can you do the anesthesia for colonoscopies

Is it possible to become a medical coder from another country?
So there are no fill in the blank questions for this years exam ?
No. They will let everyone know well in advance when and if fill-in-the blank comes out, but it was NOT in the 2024 study materials. They had previously indicated the study materials would be changed prior to adding in any fill-in-the-blank questions.
