Amazing band Amazing we're all connected on this transcendental journey together. Purveyors of fine antiquities, we are. The Church are that medium in music. I feel blessed to have lived this life and experience artists such as these.
I've seen them twice, Steve signed my copy of Starfish after their gig in the Granada (which was comical on Steve's part) here in Dallas. It was also at this gig while waiting for the band, that I heard from a couple that I was talking to that Chris Whitney had died. I miss Marty Listen to the sonic wall these two projected (Pete and Marty) ..they Simply BLAZED. No one can play a Rick like Marty.. No One This isn't a slight on Ian , but as fans of old ...you know I'm right Peace...from Texas Remember.. the Walrus was Paul
MARTY! Nothin like him. Just check out Silver Machine (Last Tune) 1:45:04. I saw this show at a place called The Fenix (Now gone) in Seattle. I have been to many many many concerts. That show is Number 1 in my life. Goosebumps for the 2 hrs they played. This is very close to the same energy. One of thee greatest band of all time!
Yes that very night before the show on Hudson street we seen steve and his wife get into a taxi and I said hey Steve and he waved Hello at us it was great ill never forget it
Guess I'll be the one to say it. I stumbled on this band when I saw The Blurred Crusade in a "New Releases" bin at my favorite indie record store. I thought the cover was interesting as well as the album title. Boy was I ever knocked the F out. Loved this band through thick and thin, the ups and downs, that said.........why not play "The Song"? I just don't understand it. So many people discovered the band through that song and on top of it being one of the finest songs of all time.......top ten for me, it crossed those lines that kept some in the mainstream from learning the beauty that is the music of The Church. It is such an amazing song, it wasn't written to sell albums, it wasn't a sellout, embrace it.
So now I got to go back and listen to the whole thing...wow. Assuming this was the entire show, it's great to hear a set list that had few of the obvious choices, no utmw or reptile, for instance. Marty was lighting things up on so many songs. Always impressive how the deep album cuts sound live...tranquility and anathesia come to mind here. Always better than the studio versions imho.
hibwett + When they connected no one can touch them, I used to read Steve's blog and he would say what gigs were on or off, then again that also was incompent on Steve's ego...lol.
marty was such a show-off. hahaha. steve has to have PERFECT monitors or he sways WAY off key. love this band. miss peter but oh well, am not one of these types who say no marty or peter no church. it's always been Mr K's band
Current band is good, it is Steve's band, however Peter and Marty are two of the top 10 guitarists of the '80s. Cannot just replace them and go on. Skills like that are missed today.
Had I been at Marty Wilson Pipers feet I would be doing much nicer things then throwing shit at him...Grow up ppl enjoy real music...🎸❤️🔥🤘💯😎 Love The Church and the difference they bring thru music.🎸❤️🔥🤘💯😎
Think they had to play a show as a 3 piece with MWP on vocals. We were worried if Kilbey would be out of jail to make the show in ATL a couple of nights later
Did a bit of research. Kilbey was locked up after this very show. They played the next night at the same venue with a different set list that was put together at the last minute because of Kilbey's absence.
No Steve is not cleaned up at this point. Matter of fact, I believe that it was this night, following this show when he got arrested trying to buy Heroin...

Marty is a treasure! I miss him in the band.
Marty --GREATEST Rickenbacker player EVER!!!!
Peters Guitar at the end of After Everything just sums up why the Church is a Epic Band. He will be missed yet again.
Missing field of Mars, reptile, under milky way😔
My thoughts exactly
Amazing band
Amazing we're all connected on this transcendental journey together.
Purveyors of fine antiquities, we are.
The Church are that medium in music.
I feel blessed to have lived this life and experience artists such as these.
Amen.
the only band that matters, i wish i could have seen this gig, what an amazing setlist
wonderful......great to find out 'After Everything' was in existence, nearly 3yrs before it made it onto a record.
wonderful! one of my favourites bands ever!
Mystical and transcendental. A great band, no doubts. I wish to see them live in Brazil...someday.
What a treasure. I missed this tour, and there are many songs here we'll certainly never hear live again. So sad that things soured with mwp and sk.
Fantastic set list. Show feels like it’s underwater majesty.
The Church always brings me to a good place
awesome gig and playing Hiroshima Mon Amour by ultravox one of my all time favs they do it justice for sure thanks for this
Strange...I was just listening to Hiroshima Mon Amour (Ultravox) yesterday and Then fell across this today. Haven’t heard the song in years so ???
Wonderful band. Seen 'em live more times than I care to remember. I remember the tour in Australia in 2000. They were just as pissed off.
Thanks for posting this, Best band ever. Cortez the Killer is so good
1:03:20 "Destination" always gives me chills
Thanks for sharing GP...made my year seeing them play Hiroshima Mon Amour!!!
Greetings from Philippines!!!👍😊

I was at the show at the Fenix. Epic.
Awesome show thanks for uploading!!
I saw them for the first time that year. Amazing!
"Kings to come..." The lyrics cast a quixotic loveliness over time it self., but/and/with hope for the future. ..that's It.
Destination is such an amazing song!
Tim Prowles saved The Church. that's it that's the post.
I will see them tomorrow at Williamsburg music hall in Brooklyn. they Rock!

Phenomenal oh boy an grind was dope! Well done lads!
Flying the flag for John Foxx's Ultravox. Great to hear.

I saw them the year before in Sacramento. Amazing!!

@@Undercoverbrotherfromanother All this is true but it must be said that Ian Haug and Ashley Naylor aren't your average session guys with a ponytail.
Magnificent!
excellent concert
Band fantastica
"Kings" is a great tune anyway, but wow, they killed it here. I'm going to see them July 1, 2017. Front row. Can't wait.
Thanks.
Superb gig ,amazing .
I too was running ahead, also,, when back from 99 was 86. Now only years ago, I am 21
Good lord. The penultimate Church setlist.
i love tim . but jdd was a class drummer.
+Nicholas Brewer Ploogy wasn't bad either.
Hiroshima Mon Amour = Ultravox! -John Foxx time
First band I ever saw live at the age of 15. No photo IDs then, but was still shaking showing my fake ID to the doorman 😅
BEST BAND EVER with Ploog that is!
Awesome set! the intro to Tantalized is absolutely amazing… but the end of Silver Machine is a bit erratic and weak imho
I believe I saw them on tour around this time, but not this concert.
Leyenda
No Under The Milky Way ???
………they absolutely kill it on Tantalized ....just nasty
Marty destroying the bass in after everything!!
Is that j d Daugherty?
No it's Tim.
the highlight of Tim???
which venue?
....wasn’t this at the Beacon
It was at the Bowery Ballroom
Had I been at Marty Wilson Pipers feet I would be doing much nicer things then throwing shit at him...Grow up ppl enjoy real music...🎸❤️🔥🤘💯😎
Love The Church and the difference they bring thru music.🎸❤️🔥🤘💯😎
KILLER!
"It may not be Sweden"... Anyone else hear that?
So dark!!!!
Was Steve clean here?
No. According to his book, he didn't get clean until like 2001
i believe he was arrested getting his hookup on this stop of the tour.
