  • One of Korngold's few religious works, the Passover Psalm was composed in exile, in Los Angeles, 1941 and commissioned by Rabbi Jacob Sonderling.
This fine performance featuring the Munich Radio Orchestra conducted by Marcello Viotti is from a live concert in 2003.
The words (translated from the German) are as follows and given the wartime situation, especially poignant:-
    Passover Psalm Opus 30
(Lyrics based on Haggadah texts by Rabbi Jacob Sonderling)
Let us praise, let us honour,
Let us sing praise to him,
    to him, who did wonders
for our fathers and us, their children.
    He broke open the prison,
    He led us out
    From slavery to freedom,
    from sorrow to joy.

    He broke open the prison,
    He led us out
    From grief to jubilation,
    from darkness to light.
    Boruch ato Adonoy,
    praise to you, O Lord.
    You have delivered us.
Hear our pleading, deliver us once more,
    give peace to our souls,
    give joy to our hearts,
    give peace to the people,
that wanders from land to land,
    from hatred to hatred,
    from trouble to trouble.
    Rescue, rescue Israel,
    your children, your people!
And when you have freed us, as before,
then from the depths of our souls
a song full of thanks will ring out,
    Praise, praise!
    Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
