Oh man this is looking good. Fantastic work Callum 😁 Tactical expedition. Would love one of these. 😊 This would go well with my military sytle 817. Will drop you a pic and need to save up for one of these. 73
Looks amazing, love the colors. Recently retired Army 18E, looking forward in purchasing a ready made multi-band antenna instead of my stealthy days of antenna construction and employment. I’ll be sharing with my FB and IG followers, since I’m allowed on social media now😂😎🙌
The DX Commander range of antennas is constantly improving. This new version looks really good. I am very pleased with my Signature 9. Good work Callum.
I’ve wanted one of these since I watched your lunchtime live stream with Jason from ham radio 2.0 already placed my order and anxiously awaiting my expeditions arrival.
Hi Callum, been planning a trip with a camper van to New Zealand for a while. Brought lots of wire and a DX Commander expedition which fits nicely in my suitcase! Found that a vertical OCF dipole, fits perfectly on the 10m pole and tunes a treat on 20/10m, but a straight 40m 1/4 wave with radials is tops. Having lots of fun with many 59 reports into Europe (other side of the world from here!) on 20 and 40m, just using 50w and an FT857D. (if I wind it up to 100w the lights go on and off in the camper!!). Thanks for your inspiration and tips. 73'sMike ZL/VK6CB
@@DXCommanderHQ Presumably they will become available for the other poles in due course. Not really a question, just a ponder 🙂 Suppose I would have to get a Classic and 12.4 set 🙂
I'm really pleased that you've taken on board my comment in a video from that time, which no longer exists (comment from 10 June 2020, 13:57), which suggested using collars that tighten and prevent the mast from collapsing. And without tools: "Nice work! Nice idea! But I dont like the use of screw driver on this metalic band clamp: I'm too afraid to slip off and hurt myself with my screwdriver or metal part. Maybe a "Frame Woodworking Band Clamp Strap" system-like, in One tool (no additional tool need) is perhaps easier to install for punctual expedition. I'm not sure I'm clear enough. I'm talking about a system with a handle that turns by hand, without tools, and that stays on the mast when it's installed. Obviously my idea is much more expensive, and your solution is good especially for a long-term eavy-duty installation." I really appreciate the work you do and all these videos. I look forward to hearing from you again.
Your comment? OK, don't tell the salesman from HCL that cam knocking on my door then! LOL Now - I still prefer the stainless versions BUT people were over-tightening them.
Hopefully LK99 WILL be proven to be a super conducting material, think of the benefits to radio, total lossless feed lines, antenna etc. Enjoy ALL your videos, I am an M6, but not on the air apart from 2 and 70, so get my fix by watching you on HF
I am really going to have to go back an watch your vids on how to make up those shock-cord thingies. But first I have to have you teach me how to tie a bowline knot. Now which video was that in??? I can hardly wait until DXE puts these on sale. I am truly jonesing for one. I may need a program before long.
I'm wondering... Is it possible to make ALL of the DX Commanders guyless by putting a post in the ground and sliding the DXC onto it? Thinking about getting the Expedition, but I'd also like to use it at home, without guys, off possible. Would be pretty slick to use guys when going portable, but then when bringing it home, just slide it onto the post.
You can do this with the Signature 9 and Rapide (shorter). Actually the Expedition would probably suffer it too - don't guy it and just let it waggle about..
Hello, pehaps another trick: why not making a loop of a thinner shock cord and make a PRUSIK knot (ruclips.net/video/kTCXJylfHbc/видео.html), no need to make a loop on tne active wire, I think it will work.
what about a DX Commander ELEVATED - less radials and higher gain or so they say. not too high but high enough that the XYL isn’t going to clip a clothes pin on the radial and hang your knickers out there to dry 😮
Goes up and back a VERY small amount (currently about 12-inches. Needs to be a whisker shorter actually to perfectly get 40/15 in. Making an adjustment tomorrow to update user guide within a few days.
Maybe I'm just having a "senior moment" but on the ordering page it says "The expedition is ideally suitable for 3-elements (4 bands). Delivering first-class performance on 40m, 20m, 15m and 10m." ... but down further it shows "40m, 20m, 17m, 15m, 10m, 6m". Does that mean you can only have 3-elements or can you cut 6 elements and get all 6 bands? Is it like the others where 40m actually gives you 15m on the same wire, so you only need 5 wires for "40m, 20m, 17m, 15m, 10m, 6m"? If so, could you also add the 6th wire and have 12m or 30m (or 80m)? If you cut and tune 6 wires, can you opt to leave off some wires for certain applications to speed up setup? Would this negatively impact tuning if I tuned for 6 wires and only put on 3? Sorry if this sounds dumb. I have the Signature 12.4 and love it's all band capability, but looking for a portable for POTA.
That looks bloody nice, love the stealth look on this antenna. Is this colour scheme a production model Cal? I've still to build my classic yet but damn I want this one so much.
I like to build my own plates and spreaders. Can you share the dimensions? I am learning CAD software and I like to draw up a design just not certain of the dimensions. I purchased the mast and wire. Now I just need to make the plates and spreaders.
Oh sorry - I don't know.. Use one of those apps maybe.. It's from Epidemic Sound. You can listen and play everything there. Free account. But if you publish, you need to pay.
Key words, 0:28 every time YOU create, go on Callum make a kit with everything cut glued and ready to erect, none of this faffing about building it, except for those that want a cheaper kit..
To be frank with you, there's no point because just with a lighter and a old pair of pliers and a sharp knife, you can build this. Just need a tape measure.
I’m digging the color scheme.
Yeah i like it too. What is the delivery time on one of these?
I like the music! "Coming to a major back garden near you!"
THAT is awesome!!!! I'll have to get one someday! Thanks for sharing Callum! 73!
That's pretty slick. Love the constant improvement!
Thanks!

My God it's a thing of beauty!
Good looking stuff Cal. Still loving my "old" DXCE :) Congrats on the setup with DX Engineering too.
Thanks Matt 👍
Have to say, that's some clever thinking with the plates, and I love the color scheme, pole is practically invisible.
attention to detail is amazing
Love the pole color
You've done it again Callum. Great idea.
Great idea 💡for the shock cord! That will be a great mod for my existing DX Commander. 👍
Enjoy!

Callum,
As promised, order placed. I am looking forward to getting this built for the next Burnham Beeches Radio Club Field day event.

brilliant.
I like it, very trick.
Very snazzy....Is this a new pole and all? If so, what weight are we looking at for what looks like an easy 3 bander?
Loaded weight for back-pack etc is about 4kg. Tom walked 90 miles with his on his back.. ruclips.net/video/xJnN5nAIFG8/видео.html
what about a DX Commander ELEVATED - less radials and higher gain or so they say.
not too high but high enough that the XYL isn’t going to clip a clothes pin on the radial and hang your knickers out there to dry 😮
No.. Every band would need tuned radials.
Love the colour trouble is, I already have a Signature 12.4m and a CLASSIC (plus 80m) .....MM6RMM
Woops!
Will there be a kit to update -my black DXCE?
You would need a new plate set and a pole.. Expensive.. Just buy another kit..! Sell the old one :)
Nice. I'll have one. Is 40m element straight or folded back over tip?

Yes, you can fit 6-elements if you want to.

This Expedition *IS* in production and another 500 units have been ordered for Jan/Feb next year too. We should have enough to satisfy demand.

Oh sorry - I don't know.. Use one of those apps maybe.. It's from Epidemic Sound. You can listen and play everything there. Free account. But if you publish, you need to pay.
Do you have ground plane wires for both verticals? Do they overlap?
They don't overlap.. I mean, they might - it just doesn't matter
How do you attach the shock cord to the element? It looks like it has a special loop for the element.
Yes.
I'm trying to order Cal, but the website won't allow me to add to basket... 🤔
Managed to do so via my phone, but not on my PC via three different web Brower's.. Anyway I've ordered now, super excited. Thanks. 😁👍
OK, we did have some issues yesterday. Sorry about that.
Liking the looks of this one! How tall is it??
9.5m. Perfect for 40m and 15 on same element.
" The Ranger series"
Does putting it under compression make the pole more stable
COmpression.. The clamps? Does nothing apart from keep sections from sliding back down.
@m0mcx no the shock cord pulling the elements tight does it make the pole more stable
Hi Cal does this need the ground plane radials?
Yup - it's still a ground-mounted antenna - the radials are the other half of the antenna.
Yes, I just use the rest of the wire that it comes with in 10-foot / 3m lengths. 4 lengths per fork connector.
