That would require the truth and most people don't want to hear, read or be told the truth regarding the history of the United States. Monticello, the home/plantation of President Thomas Jefferson, is just now 2021 admitting and embracing the history of Sally Hemmings, a slave and half sister to his wife, her relationship and children with President Thomas Jefferson.
I read this book over 40 years ago and asked about their relationship during the tour and was told, "surely, you are incorrect." They didn't, don't want the truth to be discussed or shared.

If you’re pining for a day in the past without this racism, that’s the point. There was just a time when white people didn’t have to reckon with its consequences. If you understand racism, you understand the progress made isn’t by hanging on to nostalgia for a time when it was easier to be racist, overtly, or quietly through the existing structures that allowed for it to become endemic.

I went to a private school growing up, so my experience may be a little different. History was taught differently and quite frankly the racial divide was glossed over. It is much more controversial today. If it is indeed true that CRT is not taught in the sense of legal jurisprudence, then these conservatives sound ridiculous not knowing what they are talking about. If they choose to redefine history as CRT, then they need to come to terms with the fact that sometimes the truth hurts. Perhaps more clarification from educators needs to be taught, so that these supposed claims of white kids "feeling guilty" or "not loving their country" and black kids "feeling inferior" will not be the wrong lessons learned. Much like masking, I don't hear kids complaining about it - this is a manufactured parent grievance. Perhaps more effort should be made by educators and the school boards to make sure that these lessons are about equality and empowerment to make each subsequent generation more informed and understanding than the last. This is the only way for history to not rhyme or repeat itself. To do otherwise, is to have this radical form of nationalism/populism/conservatism morph into authoritarianism. I can't even believe we are having this discussion, since all of this seems like common sense.
The hypocrisy of conservatives is outlandish and can be summarized as, "Freedom for me, but not for thee." - pro-guns but horrified of school shootings? anti-abortion yet against the welfare state to support these children forced to be brought into this world, pro-life but believe in capital punishment? Freedom of speech and railing against cancel culture, yet trying to impose their own moral code into law and firing teachers for doing their jobs? Anti-science, yet "do my own research" (on the internet created by infrastructural investments), and all sorts of ignorance politicizing inflation, supply chains, masking, vaccines, and other culture war BS issues... Much of this is driven by neuroses, paranoia, and projection of their worst selves onto the left and liberals. While there will always be extremists on both ends, I don't think that's where the majority of Americans feel and think. Many are misled or just not well-informed, due to everyday life and work.
As an Asian American, I watch all of this controversy as "the other" or 3rd party, having lived on both sides of the divide. I have felt racism very directly when I was younger, but not as overtly and ongoing after growing up, as African Americans have. Yet, I have been treated very well and fairly - yet knowing that things could turn against people like me on a dime. Nonetheless, I feel their pain and did not learn about Asian American history in depth until after college - through a nonprofit civil rights advocacy group. Granted, my fields of study did not get into race relations, so I only took what was required at the time. Much of my love for history happened after majoring in Economics. And certainly working in Wall Street, the economic rivalry with China can certainly fan flames of xenophobia in the medium and long term, much as the previous administration did with COVID or the affect that the forever wars had on Islamophobia in our recent past. Race relations can deteriorate further, not just between black vs. white, but it can turn into a crazy free-for-all, which would literally tear this country apart, which is exactly what our authoritarian adversaries would like to wish upon us through misinformation campaigns via social media. If our multi-racial democracy and change management are not harnessed positively as strengths, then they can become fires that burn out of control, rather than sources of comfort and ingenuity.

When I was a K through 12 student, in terms of History, we learned about the American Revolution over and over again. My only education on American Slavery during those years was watching the series ‘Roots.’ Foreign cultures, I watched ‘Shogun’ and David Carradine in ‘Kung Fu.’ All I knew about Africa was that the women were topless and everyone was starving to death, because that’s what popular media taught me. And this is given that I was educated in the upper middle class WASP suburbs of NYC.
I say they were the WASP suburbs but in actual fact that wasn’t true. I had friends and neighbors, plenty of them, who were Jews, Italians, Black, Latino, Asian … and we learned absolutely nothing about their heritages in school. Lots of rhetoric, Jewish and Italian jokes, stereotypes of Black people, but most of us couldn’t find China on a map. We sure new where England is, because that’s where our parents went Christmas shopping at Harrod’s.
Now as an adult I have a lot of stamps in my passports; I’ve lived ‘overseas;’ my wife is native Japanese and I speak the language fluently. But all that didn’t start until I went to college and made friends with people from all over the world.
Then and today, kids are taught a very sterile, white washed version of the world and its history. We shouldn’t be discouraged from fixing that by a minority within a minority who want to keep us undereducated about what made the society we have today.
You can not tip toe around the subject of race in History without pretending that it didn’t matter, because obviously it did. We certainly don’t avoid discussing race when we talk about the Holocaust, which is why many don’t want it discussed at all, as if it wasn’t important, as if it didn’t happen.

I started first grade in 1971. I attended a school in a white neighborhood in Georgia. A few black children were bussed from across town, so that our school could be integrated. I saw and experienced racism and hateful attitudes, words and actions. I understood at a very young age, that black children were not treated fairly by the school. As I grew older, I saw that black people were not being treated fairly by society. Most of the White children I went to elementary school with, were placed in private schools after graduating elementary school. The private schools in our area sprung up after integration, as an alternative to sending white children to school with black children. Things need to change. We may never change some attitudes twords racism and white supremacy. But we can make sure that black people are treated fairly, and have access to the financial opportunities and equity, which would give them the ability to be successful.

Our Country Split over this practisce, & The Slaves were Freed, after a Long & Bloody War, against Other Americans..." is just about what anyone hears, in High School. One must be in a Collegiate environment before anything like the Basic Economics of American Slavery get exposed to the student. Why not just Let Them Know where American Slavery was based upon: ECONOMIC CONCERNS. PEOPLE AS MONEY, THEMSELVES. A Single Slave cost the Equivalent of $250 000 dollars, back then (about $2000, in 1850 . Enough to buy a house.) Why keep this simple fact a Secret of some kind? If this is what they are Key Wording as "CRITICAL RACE THEORY", I happen to be All For It... Let's just Drop the Labeling & call it "AMERICAN HISTORY", already..

That's the problem right here because you don't know your American history. Not all Africans were slaves in after they arrived in the U.S. some coming from the Caribbean. Many first came as indentured servants working for 7 years the n freedom. There were at least 300,00 free people of color around during times of slavery. There were many "white" abolitionists like Willam Lloyd Garrison, Cassius Clay and John Brown to name a few. During these times many escaped slaves left to educate themselves and started various careers and some became inventors. It just seemed that once a Black community became established and moving forward some less forward thinking and jealous "white" Americans heeded a reason to tear it all down hence numerous massacres. Should we just say no this didn't happen. How do Germans teach their history to their children? Do they say that the holocaust never happened?

However he's clearly (and understandably) way out of his league when attempting to even properly frame some of his questions regarding the troubled history of race in America. Of course, in all fairness, his guest Nikole Hannah-Jones is (also) an expert in what she does. Personally, as a journalist, I think the lady is (way) ahead of her time. Or perhaps the real issue is that so much of the nation is so far behind when it comes to having the will & the courage to honestly face our nations brutal past. 😎

There is large number of white policy makers who are in favor of glossing over the ugly parts of our history because they don't want to deal with subject of reperation.
I understand that there are still living members of the race riot alive today. Surely their lives and their family's lives have been negatively impacted. Yet the state of Oklahoma does not want to pay reperations to those black families.
The goal of many white policy makers is to continue to fight against any movement that seeks tell our real history. The case for reperations would become clearer if the truth was told to the American people.

What always seem to happen when we talk about black people in this country, there always individuals that will bring up other culture's experiences. The subject of this video is dealing with CRT. Clearly, the resistance to CRT is largely based on the unwillingness of many white people to tell the truth about how the mistreatment of it black citizens gave rise to the wealth and prospering many white people enjoy today.
I'm not saying that what has happened to the Chinese is not worth noting, I'm simply saying to bring it up in this context only seeks to minimize the trauma that black people went through.
