- Ophelia Rag, composed by James Scott in 1910.
Well, it's about time that I recorded a James Scott rag! He's considered one of the "Big 3" of ragtime, and this is one of his most popular pieces, featuring both folk rag and cakewalk elements throughout. The cover art is unusual and features a popular comic strip character of the time, Ophelia Bumps, drawn by Clare Victor Dwiggins. Listening to to your channel is like walking into a saloon of different era.
I love the musicality and dynamics that you bring to these ragtime classics. Great job as always!!
Thank you, Chad! 🎹
Wonderful! I always like when you smile at the end of the song.
Beautiful!!
Wonderful!!!
Loved ❤🎹🎶
This sounds so fun to play!
Some of Scott's rags are quite difficult, but I found this one to be very accessible and fun 🎶
@@ChristinaPepper mhmm thats true! It sounds fun to play!
Beautifully done. You are remarkably talented. The only Scott rag I can play is Hilarity. The others seem too daunting for a self-taught player like myself, but you always inspire me to try new things.
Thank you! Scott's rags intimidated me for a long time too. This is the first one that I've really sat down and learned fully, but I'm definitely ready for more! Next up is "Broadway Rag" 😊
Edit: Though I did learn one of his waltzes first! "The Suffragette Waltz": ruclips.net/video/avRGb9z13KQ/видео.html
Thanks for sharing your talent again! Does your family get to enjoy the practice sessions, or does it only get as far as the headphones?
I have an acoustic upright downstairs that I practice on most days (and sometimes record)! I just find I like the digital for recording so I don't have to worry about background noises or being interrupted by someone's lawn mower 😆
How did I miss this even though I'm subbed IDK xD Ophelia is one of Scott's best pieces and you play it exceedingly well ! btw, what type of keyboard are you using ?
Well, glad you found your way here! My digital is the Roland RD-2000; I've had it a couple years now 🎹
@@ChristinaPepper Thank you !! BTW I'm a Ragtime composer too, let me know if you'd like to play one of my pieces, I can send you the sheet :)
