Nice video! Ive ordered my Sworks Levo and waiting till january for delivery in Australia. Keen to here how a coil goes on the rear. Keep the videos rollin.... your doing good stuff. TI say this bike will rip with maxis tyres
Having owned a Merida Eone sixty 8000 with intergrated battery I loved the bike,,,,,except the 27.5 wheel at the back. At 6'2" I ride an XL also and found yes whilst it creates more nibleness the back wheel does not roll over bumps, roots rocks, as easily. Its a gamechanger going to 29 front and rear. 3 years on this video is still relevant. Im looking at the Specialized Levo for the motor, the geometry the package. Yes you miss out on components but weight of shifters cassette is near moot on an ebike. Given the weight of the motor is 500grams give or take less than variants in the same year models.....Its quick and easy to put on X9 shifters that allows multiple gear shifts, and drops the weight where it counts at the cassette. Trickle down tech such as Rockshox Delux shocks or RS Forks in years past are equivalent to the top offerings. Light, stiff and plenty plush enough. Its either I look at the Merida eone sixty again or the Specialized Levo but Im getting drawn to the Levo, even being alloy framed due to 29 wheels front and rear. I feel when your tall, 29 wheels are simply scaled up to suit your size on the bike, where leaning front and rear shifts greater mass than a 65kg rider that need to use far more body english to move 29 wheels.....Scaled to fit. Just got to look at unlocking. STunlocker was great was super cheap to unlock the Merida....at $60Aus dollars for a simple licence to the App....that also allowed power levels to each mode.
Thanks for another great video Great information, I ordered the Levo Comp back in September, delivery should be December Getting the bike shop to install Cush Core, so hopefully helps the wheels a bit
My recommendation would be if you don't like it then find an alternative. Try hi power cycles. They are based in Florida. Ok they are double the price of the turbo but you get double the power and 100mile range not to mention better suspension, set up etc 😎
Its great to hear about the sealing issue (crap trap at 12:30) that is addressed by a "sponge" (a gasket?) and the additiona of a 4th bolt to the motor cover (discussed around 11:30). Good to hear about the dings in the Specialized wheels and switch to DT Swiss HX1501 (eBike wheel). Thanks!!!

Super presentation Rob, thanks. We are looking at a couple of these for exploration of the forest service roads and trails in the Olympic National Forest, and extensive low tide beach exploration along the remote Pacific coastal beaches here in Washington and Oregon. Will out fit them with racks and panniers to carry supplies and photography equipment. Probably not much high speed trail riding and jumps etc. like in your video, (although well done). I also like the suggestion on the DT Swiss wheels as we would probably run 3" tubeless tires to meet the dual purpose needs. What is your thought of this application with the Levo? thx again great work... question.. in a previous video we spoke about.. a noisy motor... too too too noisy... still ? during the video... a bit annoying
@@RobRidesEMTB Yeah they should be available around mid-November most places. It has made my choice of buying my next EMTB so much harder lol... I just had a terrible experience with a 2019 Rocky Mountain Power Play; owned it for 3 weeks and it was nothing but dramas - a proper lemon. Firstly, the builder snapped the motor cover as its a brittle plastic on both sides, the motor was cutting out, a button fell off the controller from a minor knock on the bike rack, weird noises started coming from the battery or motor (high pitch whine when I stopped pedaling), rear shock was losing air pressure. The 'Normal" vibrations and noises of the motor were unacceptable and when the motor was off - you could barely pedal the bike a flat road. I don't believe its ready for production really. I had to return it for a refund which the shop was very unhappy to do so. I had to send so stern emails back and forth; pointing out my rights under the Consumer Law. I really hope Rocky Mountain receives the bike back for an investigation; in order to alleviate these issues and put in place a more extensive quality control procedure. Judging by the shop owners emails - I don't think he intends on send it anywhere; just to fix a couple of things and sell it to some other poor bastard...
Good review and you make a very valid and perhaps crucial point ...you need a good local dealer for support to give you that piece of mind. Would you have still bought one without that? I was looking at the turbo levo but my local spec dealer just isn't that clued up on them and while I wouldn't go as far as saying they put me off they certainly didn't sell me their service either which when your spending 6k is a big factor. Yes you can get deals on the net or down south (im Scotland based) but do you really want to be sending a bike away when a problem arises? Im still going to hire the 19 comp carbon to try but I may go down the merida e160 route or new giant as I do have a local dealer for both who seem to know their stuff. Keep up the good work and glad to see your review contained both good and bad points
Rob Rides EMTB I compared the 2018 Levo to the 2018 Bulls Estream Evo AM 4 - bought the latter. You ever test ride one? It also uses the Brose -S motor. Would LOVE to see you do a proper review of that one.
Hi Rob, What do you reckon about picking up a 2019 Turbo Levo now (Feb 2020)? They can be picked up around £4k, is that a great deal or is it better to buy a 2020 model £4k bike e.g. Vitus eSommet, Canyon, Cube Hybrid, etc?
Hey Rob Just found your superb channel while researching eMTBs. I'm 47, unfit but wanting to change all that and get out and back into MTBing. I went to my local bike store (Rutland Cycles) and they sell Specialized bikes, but all of their 2019 Levo stock has been sold, damn!! I've joined your forum and seen there are a few 2019 bikes for sale on there. My budget is £3500, is there any other bikes I should be considering? I'll be doing tracks and trails mainly in East Anglia with the odd trip to Wales. Many thanks and appreciate all the amazing content! Jon
Nice review though rob 👍 I'm local to you and didn't know about this trial. Looks good. Any other recommended bike trials to go on? Also bike club etc? Thanks Michael
Great review, thanks for this and the other great videos. One question regarding the Levo specification, if you purchased again would you still go for the carbon comp or do you think a different spec is a better choice?
Hmm... £6k is a LOT of money, the Expert is £7250, its a lot of extra cash (Not sure its going to give £1250 'more' value to you)... Have seen some on EMTB Forums get the base alloy model and upgrade that way, almost getting to S-Works spec for much cheaper...
Super nice review, and great looking bike, but 6k for a bike with crap rims and a budget 34 fork. Not easy to explain that price tag except that they are looking to make big margins. There are so many options out there that offer so much more for the same money. Still, it does look like a great ride.. if only they were not so off with their pricing / spec...
Yet they get good, no superb, reviews in almost every test. What are these alternatives you are talking about? (With 700+Wh, full suspension, low drag motor) I would love to know of them and save me some money
Rob, very informative. How would you compare this bike to a new Trance E+? I'm guessing the Yamaha motor has better instant response and power but the Turbo Levo is move nimble, but what say you regarding motors and handling?
Hi , could You make a video of ebikes from best to the worst and from the most expensive to the cheapest and of course from the best to the worst . Greetings Krzysztof :-)
Hi Rob your a tall rider like I am. I rode the levo a coupe of days ago. And enjoyed it but im on the top end of the weight limit. How much do you weight. And what psi are you running in the shock. The specialized sag app say I would be above the max psi of the shock I'm 195 cm and a 110kg thanks for any feed back
i just ordered a Levo S-Works, it will arrive by mid/end of Januari, i cant wait !, do you have any idea how much if differs from the expert ? not just the obvious weight gain, but, handling, suspension, impact of carbon rims, breaking ? thanks for all the vidéos, they are making the wait slightly more bearable.
Nice! Never ridden the S-Works but I can imagine that the suspension and weight should make it feel different in a very good way once you are at a good pace.
Hi, just watched your 2019 Specialized Turbo Levo Review. I have just taken delivery of a Turbo Levo and wondered how I can check I have the modifications for the dirt ingress into the motor casing. I can't see a 'sponge' gasket from the outside and where is the 4th bolt on the motor cover?
I seen this bike in the bike shop today and I'm pretty interested in it. Now I'm looking at reviews and yours was fantastic but it left me wondering about something.....I'm not an experienced rider, I'm 48 years old and the last time I rode a bike was probably 35 years ago, would this be a good beginner electric bike? I'd be using it on gravel trails and some pavement. I'd appreciate answers from Rob or anyone else that might have some constructive input.....thank you.
Hope you enjoy the review. Any question or feedback on the new 2019 Levo hit me up below 👊

Muck ingress is bit annoying but in the design there is no real attempt to seal the casing - there is actually a big hole in the bottom of it to allow water to drain out. What is stupid design is the area Rob shows in the video where the casing actually acts like a scoop to gather up the crap flying off the back wheel. thx again great work... question.. in a previous video we spoke about.. a noisy motor... too too too noisy... still ? during the video... a bit annoying
Did you see the comparison part?
Some of the review was shot before I had the noisy motor replaced.
@@RobRidesEMTB yup just watched it.. ok... a bit of a shame due to the high standards we expect from specialized... anyway..seems solved..thx
👍
Hey mate great review, have you got any plans to check out the Norco sight Vlt?
it looks amazing
I would if I could get one!
Judging by the shop owners emails - I don't think he intends on send it anywhere; just to fix a couple of things and sell it to some other poor bastard...
estoy por comprarme una turvo levo, aun con sus defectos, piensas que puedo disfrutar de ella? gracias!
Great review I’m just about to buy my first e-bike and I’m going for a Commencal meta power essential 2019 what’s your thoughts on that bike.
That small gap letting rubbish into the motor casing seems very dodgy! Sounds like the fix doesn't keep everything out either!!??
i put dt swiss on my 2017 as i distroed the overs in the alps
Is this better than the Vitus E-Sommet VR? 29" vs the 27.5"? Dealer support? Brose motor vs the Shimano motor? TIA
Thanks for the review. Can you compare levo to Rocky Mountain Powerplay?
I'll try to get the Powerplay. Had a brief ride on it once!
Rob Rides EMTB I compared the 2018 Levo to the 2018 Bulls Estream Evo AM 4 - bought the latter. You ever test ride one? It also uses the Brose -S motor. Would LOVE to see you do a proper review of that one.
Their should be a way to charge the battery while riding.
Hey Rob
Just found your superb channel while researching eMTBs.
Jon
Hi, How would you compare it to Kenevo? You have ridden both, which one would be your preferred bike from your experience? Thanks! Good video
Personally, I like the handling of the Levo. It’s more nimble and feels faster.
Nice review though rob 👍 I'm local to you and didn't know about this trial. Looks good. Any other recommended bike trials to go on? Also bike club etc? Thanks Michael
Hey Michael, where are you? This is Swinley Forest.
Thanks, I will continue to mull it over.
Very nice video. What kind of mudguard do you use in the front?
It's from ratherberiding.co.uk/ works very very well.
Hi Rob, just wondering what the fix was that specialized released to deal with crud getting in the motor compartment?
Please compare the rims after a while! Thanks. Good, personal review!
Thanks. I will do 👍
Super nice review, and great looking bike, but 6k for a bike with crap rims and a budget 34 fork.
(With 700+Wh, full suspension, low drag motor)
I would love to know of them and save me some money
Rob, very informative. How would you compare this bike to a new Trance E+? I'm guessing the Yamaha motor has better instant response and power but the Turbo Levo is move nimble, but what say you regarding motors and handling?
Not tried the Trance E yet... have asked Giant a few times :-(
May I ask please what gimbal it is that you use, it’s quite good!
Hi , could You make a video of ebikes from best to the worst and from the most expensive to the cheapest and of course from the best to the worst . Greetings Krzysztof :-)
I’m in for the Levo base model. Just have some fun riding and upgrading some components.
Do you have a link of the DT wheels?
Sure: www.dtswiss.com/en/products/wheels-hybrid-e-bike/all-mountain/hx-1501-spline-one/hx-1501-spline-one-30/
Thinking of buying 2019 levo for $1792 think it’s worth it?
Nice! Never ridden the S-Works but I can imagine that the suspension and weight should make it feel different in a very good way once you are at a good pace.
perfect bicycles for the older folks or those waiting for knee replacements
Hi are the rim dings (damage) warranty issue? Did You feel the same problem with the Kenevo? I still haven't decided Yet 😀
