The AirPods took the world by storm upon their release. The memes and criticisms quickly diminished as the headphones clearly proved themselves to be convenient and reliable. Since release, the AirPods have seen very little change-instead introducing new models like AirPods Pro and AirPods Max-that is, until now. Are the new 3rd generation AirPods the best AirPods yet or are they a regression from their predecessor? It's not as cut-and-dry as we'd all hope. Let me explain...

That’s right. One example I saw is the Verge reviewed the new Mac pros and said they wanted to take their time to get it right. And then they say that there’s no way to know if you’re actually getting fast charge. Quinn casually showed that you actually can see that very easily in the settings. 🤦🏻♂️

I remember buying the first AirPods in the first month, and for 6months I wore them everywhere. People would look at me thinking what’s wrong with my ears.
5 years later - I see them everywhere in Melbourne and now wired earphones feel like retro tech

Yeah but wired will always be king for audio quality and longivty due to not having battery's, Bluetooth just can't match it. I'm gonna be hanging on to my hd 58X for decades while those airpods get thrown in the bin

Bruh just got them for 150 and they are amazing. I swear people hate on Apple just because they are popular. Honestly the only thing I dislike is how easy they are to lose and coming in more colors would be cool.
I just received my AirPods 3. They are a welcome improvement in the sound quality over the AirPods 2. The sound quality of the AirPods 3 is in line with that of the AirPods Pro. The main reason I upgraded was for the improved sound quality and spatial audio. I like AirPods Pro for use at the gym or whereever I need noise cancellation. The AirPods Pro though are not comfortable to me for long periods, I think because they create too much of a seal. The AirPods 3 now give me the sound quality I’ve come to enjoy with the AirPods Pro while also providing the comfort of the AirPods 2 for long duration listening,
Precisely why I own both the 3 and the pros. It's not that tips are painful or horribly uncomfortable; they're just not effortlessly comfortable either. And if I'm at home most of the time, why do I need ANC or transparency? So the pros are my travel buds and the rest of the time they don't really get used.

I LOVE the lose fit of the 2nd Gen - makes them the best earphone for phone calls and video conferences, for hours and hours. They suck at playing music, but there are so many other possibilities that I don‘t really mind.

@@CristianZatonyl The 3rd Gen are excellent for phone calls. Nicer then my old 2nd Gen pair. I got these over the Pros because I hate isolated buds when listening to voice.
I love the 2nd gen - meanwhile the Pros don’t fit my ears at all. So I’m concerned about the 3rd gens fit

I've owned my Air Pods 2nd generation for two years and love them. I use them most to here the screen reader on mainly my iPhone, as I'm partially blind. Needless to say they've seen some very heavy use. While they still work ok, the batteries are starting to go, and they took an unintended swim one recent morning.
I decided then that I'd better line up their replacements.
Just as before, I chose the regular current offerings over the Pros for a couple reasons.
1: Being partially blind, my hearing is very important to me, and I like to have the option to hear the environment. I'm ok with ANC for over-the-ear when gaming or watching a movie, but not for everyday phone use.
2: I have small ear canals, prone to wax and ear infections. I'm not a fan of silicon tips, as I feel they just push any gunk up my ear canals. They're also just not comfortable, and I hate when they pop off.
3: A new reason, I got my new 3s majorly on sale, $40 off, plus a $25 gift card I had, so I got them for less than $125 after tax! I'm thrilled with them so far! I'm glad I bought them before my 2s fail me, because they're still an excellent backup/nighttime pair, even if the sound is not as good. With synthesized speech, that doesn't matter quite as much.
My reason for choosing non silicone tip earbuds is that I like to be able listen what’s happening around me or leave them in my ears and forget about them. Other than that I prefer ANC when I’m out
Honestly, I prefer the Airpods 3 most of the time - I can eat without hearing myself chewing, I can hear properly myself talk on calls, I don't have to use pass-thru (which for some reason is massively over-bright) to listen for the doorbell, and they're great to listen to podcasts while playing video games - I can hear the non-cranked surround and the podcast.
BUT - I also have times that I actually want to block noise - lawn care, anything with loud running water, over-riding boring music at the skating rink... these use cases REALLY require the Pros.
So yeah, I got the 3's with the intention of deciding to keep them or the Pros... and ended up keeping both.
FYI If you dive deep into settings you can customize the transparency mode to be less bright, among other things. Settings -> Accessibility -> Audio & Visual -> Headphone Accommodations -> Transparency Mode
@@blakephotographytexas Appreciated - but even at the lowest setting it was still brighter than reality - maybe it's that pair of pods? That wasn't my only issue, so I'll keep using both.
Just testing my new 3D gen AirPods with your video. Fit is good enough to not fall out of my ears, and sound is close enough to my Pros with a better clarity, making these the most balanced sounding AirPods yet. I am happy to not having to stuff anything into my ears anymore, comparing the feel of the 3s with the Pros side by side, I am happy to dump my Pros for that light sense on nothing, while containing most of the sound.
Magsafe also works on airpods pro with an updated case. Obviously you won't buy a new pair just for magsafe magnets but if you are planning on getting a pair it's nice to know that they have it now
I bought a set that my local store had on clearance and they came with the new case. Best deal ever. Cost me about 20 after I cashed in some reward points. Kinda nuts actually.
Something that needs to addressed is the adaptive EQ. I remember with the old AirPods and even EarPods, as they get loose over time, the sound changes, the bass gets lost, so I have to push them in. With these, they adapt to that, so they sound consistent. You can hear how it changes by putting the AirPods 3 loose in your ears, then quickly pushing them in. You’ll hear extra low frequencies for a quick moment, then it adjusts. And the opposite way, quickly loosen them and you’ll lose all bass, like the old AirPods. But they adjust and make it sound better. I really like this about the AirPods, and I think it’s something people forget about or don’t realize the benefits of

Yes exactly. I do love ANC but these are perfect for work when I still need to hear surroundings. And silicone tips don’t fit me either. When I need ANC I have over ear sony’s

Great video! This is prob the best review I’ve seen, while I do agree I still miss the bass levels. And maybe that’s because the Gen2 fit so snug. These are a little bigger. However some tracks I have heard ouch really hard and really crisp. I had to return mine actually as the left driver was blown. Apple replaced without any issue at all
It's an absolute smash hit product for me. The convenience factor can't be oversold. Used my gen 1s into the ground to the point where the battery life was noticeably limiting, so this gen 3 came at a perfect time for an upgrade.
This is the only channel I trust when apple releases an audio product, most reviewers have no clue about audio and just say “it’s good”
So I had the second gen AirPods and they fit my ears absolutely perfectly but after years of use they broke so I upgrade to the Sennheiser momentum II sounds great but fall out of my ears all the time and the I have very tiny earholes any earwax on them they slip out. So should I get these or just stay with my sennheiser.

I use AirPods 3 a lot at home, even though I have the pros. This is mostly due to the fact that I don't love having canal buds stufffed in my ear for long periods of time, and I appreciate the ability to hear some of my surroundings through them. When I'm traveling, I either want to be extra-conscious of my surroundings or I don't want to hear them at all, so I use the pros and flip between ANC and transparency (with custom accommodations set up.) The AirPods 3 actually sound almost as good as the pros to me, so I don't find the listening experience to be worse. If I had to pick just one, I'd probably go with the pros; but so many people watching this are probably tech collectors like me, so this is something to consider.
I enjoyed the 1st Gen AirPods until they were stolen. They were so comfortable I often forgot they were in my ears. Best of all, I could fall asleep with them in my ears while listening to a podcast or the sounds of rain and waves. I know you don’t recommend these but this video just convinced me to purchase the Gen 3 AIRPODS! 😀
He heard the og Airpods thin and harsh which means the old design didn’t get him the proper fit. I hear the og airpods rather boomy and smooth in the treble so its not weird to enjoy og airpods :)

@@brandon_nope what do you mean by “sealed earbuds”? If you mean earbuds that feel like they’re vacuumed sealed when in the ear canal then I can’t stand those. Tried some Skull Candy buds and they’re nice but not as comfortable as the AirPods.

@CGGS_Gaming in my region (Russia) retailers still have old Pros without MagSafe, and new MagSafe enabled AirPods costs 5000 roubles (like 60$) more than old ones.

I’ve had so many connection issues with my AirPods Pro 2, bad connection during phone calls, random disconnects, switching to close by devices constantly. Anyone else dealing with this or know how to fix it?
I wish iPhones had DTX X. My LG V40 has that, and I almost always have it on. It makes things sound a bit more crisp and gives any headphones a better soundstage. I never thought I'd use or appreciate something like that in the way I do now. I listen to music to have fun, and sometimes the original stereo mixes (as the artist intended) isn't the most fun way to listen. I say this as someone who would be "audiophile" if it didn't come with the stereotypes it does.

I bought them and I'm torn between liking them and disliking them. The Gen 2 fit really well and the Gen 3 hurt my hearts after a while and I keep fiddling with the fit. Unfortunately I've tried different other buds and they all have fit problems -- maybe my ear shape is weird but I'll live with the Gen 3 for now
Same, but these are my first set of AirPods. I usually go for sound quality first with pricey headphones, but the curiosity of the convenience hype finally got the better of me. Luckily, this purchase was made with a Christmas gift card and cash back rewards, so it's not that much of a hit for me.
I just bought the set I have today, watching this video with them. While I find the sound to be...okay, the fit feels weird to me. It feels like at times it's about to fall out, but they never do even when I shake my head... But still feel like they're not secure enough in my ear...I get that it doesn't seal, but I still had an easier time getting Apple's standard earbuds that come with their phones to fit in my ears.
I got these over the Pro because I don't really like earbuds that block my ear completely. I feel like I should've gone with the Pros though...Buyer's remorse, I suppose.
What do you think of the Spatialize Stereo feature in iOS 15? For music the head tracking is more of a gimmick, but when fixed it does add a bit of soundstaging to stereo tracks.
Frankly, I haven't wanted to turn that feature off since it released. Which is concerning. Because it takes my choice of headphone from hundreds or thousands to just Apple's blessed AirPods. It changed the audio so much for me that I have concerns on leaving iOS ever for the fear of missing out on that sound enhancement.

I love my AirPod 3s. I have a single AirPod in my ear throughout a good chunk of the day for Zoom calls, RUclips videos, podcasts etc. I don’t want a seal or ANC so the Pros were not for me. These are exactly what I wanted. All the features of the Pros (button on the stems, better in-ear detection, spatial audio, better Find My, and way better battery life) without the tips and ANC. The fact that the Pros can be had for only $20 more kinda stings, but these are what I want/need.
Same! I liked the ANC but found the comfort of the AirPods 3 to be more worth it since I leave them in ear all day long for work and personal use.
If you only want a headphones that has best audio possible and you won't listen on the go, does it make sense to get standard AirPods if you gonna focus to spend on only one best sound AirPods Max headphone? Do they sound close tho, if yes then not make sense to spend more on bigger AirPods Max right?

I've always stuck with non pro airpods because I've never had a pair or tipped headphones that didn't drive me crazy after 15 minutes of use. So i'm very glad to see a non tipped airpod update :)
From my limited exposure to airpods pro, I find that they are a lot less intrusive than other silicon tipped earbuds. So maybe you should give them a try, but the gen 3 seem good.
I really liked you review and it had much value! I would say that there are those of us out there who do not like wireless ear tips in our ears - I’m one of them. Also, some like to still be aware of sound around them, of which noise cancellation would eliminate. And, some of us find a more relaxed fit from and earbud setting in our ear instead of our earlobe and partially in the canal. I just purchased the AirPods 3 - found a way to get a brand new set at $125. Been testing them, walking with them, moving my head around to see if they’ll loosen. I totally love the sound, but I also have always benefitted from the secure fit in the 1st generation version. Well, I’m getting used to it and I’m truly into the sound. I never use buds like this for workout, so the AirPods three are seemingly gonna be perfect for me at this point. Thank you for a great review!

@@jasonblaise6786 Contact Apple, and if you have Apple Care+ they’ll usually replace them fairly easily. Gotten mine replaced… many times. Again, they got issues with them, I’d say all AirPods do. On my 3rd pair of AirPods Max. I believe there’s currently a program with the AirPods Pro as well, driver separation issues.

Really want to know if these are nearly perfectly waterproof like the Airpods 1 and 2 have been. I wear mind in the shower, in the pool, and have washed them, and the case, but they've never had a problem.
i wish they would make a mechanical way of closing the lid because my airpods case is always covered in metal filings

I'm a film editor and I can tell you that spatial audio virtualization on Apple TV is very very good. So good that I've been noticing that I prefer using it than my surround system, and it's all due to head tracking, the way the LCR are so well presented, it has already tricked several times into believing my Kefs Ls50 were on on surround. Very good imagining. Atmos for music tho' feels like a gimmick but who cares if there are tons tons of surround mixed films on almost all streaming platforms.
I have been using the galaxy buds + for about a year now and I'm wondering how these compare to my buds.
Spend the extra, if you can, & get the Sony XM4s. They don't have the device switching function the Airpods have, but they beat all Airpod models in pretty much every other respect.
You summed up my thoughts perfectly at the end. I just don't see a reason to get the 3s over the Pro unless you hate silicon tips or ANC. Maybe if the extra hour of battery life appeals to you, but I think the battery life would have needed a bigger boost to make these more of a recommend over the Pro.
Many people loved apple headphones exactly because they did not have silicone tips but had great fit.
These seem to improve in every direction so they will sell well.
Pros are fine for people who don’t mind silicone tips and want anc or passive noise cancellation, many people don’t..
there is one reason to get the 3's over the Pro's. The Pro's break. A lot. From personal experience and connections in the AASP/Apple Store industry, they have to swap dozens of them every day, per store. It's gotten to a point, where you don't even need to explain the problem to the Geniuses at an Apple Store, they already know what's wrong. There is even an extended warranty program for them. The mic in the Pro's (the one facing inwards) is getting loose after some time from moving or from the vibrations of the driver. This leads to a number of problems: rattling while walking, static sounds, weaker ANC and weaker bass. I went through 3 pairs until I finally returned them about 3 weeks ago. If you want something that lasts, get something else. Until Apple truly fixes them, I can't recommend the Pro's to anyone sadly.
I don't hate the tips of the pros, I actually got memory foam tips from Amazon and they're quite nice. That said, I don't love having them in my ear for a long time either. The AirPods 3 sound amazing, and if I'm not in a loud environment they're perfect for casual use. They improve on the gen2 without sacrificing comfort (for me at least.) That makes them worth having even when I already have and love the pros.
Do you have a video on over-ear headphones that you would recommend? Any over-ear wireless?

I just got some beats studio buds, I’m wondering if they are better than the 3rd gen AirPods.
Wondering from previous owners, how nice is the loose fit of them? I've never really been much into earphones with the fit like the Pros, I hate all the ear gunk that comes out and how plugged up you feel (imagine its even worse with ANC). So how is the fit on regular airpods? I've heard it doesn't even feel like they are even there sometimes (which I very much like)
There's a split between people who like the fit of the 3's and people who prefer the 2's. The only way to really know is to try them out. I find them very comfortable for long periods of time, which is why I own them despite also owning the pros. Now I only need the pros if I'm traveling and need to hear my surroundings particularly well or not at all.
Also, if you didn't know, the AirPods 2 are just like the EarPods that come with the iPhone (or used to, anyway.) So if the 3's don't work out but you like the fit of the wired EarPods, consider the 2's for $129 instead. They don't sound great, but they're comfortable for most people.
Would love a video on what you think are the best wired headphones for music, both open and closed back.
What should I do? I bought AirPods Pro and I am really disapointed with bass. I had AirPods 2 and I am not audiophil. Are the bass same or worse on AirPods 3 over AirPods 2 ? And from that should I return Pro and buy 3rd gen ?

I am really impressed by Apple's spatial audio. I watched the new 3D Netflix He-Man cartoon on my iPad and I *swear* that I'd accidentally left the iPad's speakers on instead of using my AirPod Pros. The head tracking really sold the illusion, convincing my ears that the sound was being emitted from the iPad itself. And to be clear, this was an iPad Pro. So being comparable to the build-in speakers is quite impressive!
Legit wondering if the airpods i got are bunk. Cause they sound notably worse than the 2s. The mids sound crunchy and there's no top end. Might exchange them today
I want the tap feature. It’s so much more easier to quickly double tap your ear, you also don’t have to precise with grabbing the stem.
I also like the open-ness of the non pros, because you can hear your surrounding and people greeting you without the need to pause the music.
Guess I’ll be stock piling airpod 2 whenever they drop to $100
The squeeze works through a hood, glives or a beanie, so it is superior in that way.

@@tuomasvihavainen3976 if I'm cooking or my hands are dirty I could just use my shoulders to double tap, which the stems could do. ive test the pros for a week and hated that I absolutely needed to pinch the stem.
I agree. I bought the 3s on release day and the features, battery and sound quality were all decent but they wouldn’t fit at all. Yawned? They fell out. Talked? They fell out. Moved my head? See ya. Returned and bought two new pairs of 2nd gens.

Copped a pair of pros and they could not stay in my ear despite which tips I used. I opted for the 3’s and despite the missing features they stay in my ears and sound great.

I have the AirPods Pro’s, but my one and ONLY issue I have with the 3’s is ear wax and the speaker screen cage thingy lol. I still have my Airpod 1’s and I was cleaning those things pretty much every 2 days lol.

i ordered a pair of airpods pro the day the airpods 3 came out and thanks for not letting me regret my decision ! I really enjoy the airpods Pro but i do find the very highs to be a bit exagerated and tiring, but i know know i'm over sensitive to that. I also have the airpods Max and those i really enjoy, i can leave them on my head almost all day
I want to be able to use the AirPod 3’s with my pc for day to day zoom and TEAMS calls, so not looking for ANC or something that will drive deep into my ear and most of all something comfortable which I can wear for hours on end but still deliver great sound for music and my favorite shows???

I traded them back in the day for some Sony 1000XM2. Very much regret that decision.
I'm glad the non-Pros got some attention. I tried the Pros. I always hate having ear tips down in my ear canal and the Pros didn't avoid that negative from me. Also they always wanted to fall out of my ears. Looking forward to trying the 3s.

The airpods pro caused a lot of pain in my ears after a few house. I'm looking forward to a review of the beats fit pro. If those dont hurt, they seem to have all of the features of the airpods pro for the same price.

I got mine yesterday and i think they are excellent. Great audio and i love the spatial audio. Really love them.
The 3 definitely feel different to the 2, but after a few days I have really got used to the fit. They are a great product and an improvement on the 2 for me all around, however the price is the sticking point. Knock $30-50 USD off and I think they are a definite. At the moment, it’s a big cost for marginal, though good improvement
I cant live without the ANC, waiting for the Pro 2, now using Sammy Buds Pro that still amazing.
Can I charge my air pod pros in the air pod 3 case?
I'm guessing that the 2nd-gen AirPods pros are around the corner, with prompt discontinuation to boot. I bought a pair on Prime day earlier this year for a mere £160 which was frankly incredible - but, personally, I wouldn't consider them worth more in all honesty!

Will use them a lot for cycling so need to hear my surrounding, tried transparency mode on the pro but really hated it, can't wait to get the Gen 3 😁 !

Apple has never sent out review units to anyone. they used to invite a select few to buy products early after keynotes but arnt able to do so atm.

The AP3 pricing is also super weird when Apple's other headphones brand, Beats, sells the very decent Studio Buds that have ANC, IPX rating, and all the Apple niceties (e.g. FindMy compatibility, hands free Siri, easy pairing, etc.) and currently go for $129 USD (or $149 MSRP). Oh, and those also charge with USB-C -- like a civilized pair of wireless headphones.
See I have AirPods Pro’s, love them but find on my right ear they like to wiggle they don’t fall out but feel like it will if you get what I mean, ANC is great but it’s not desirable but audio quality is the thing for me, is it worth getting the AirPods 3rd Gen?

The AirPods Pro Case has been updated with a new MagSafe Charging case just like the 3rd Gen AirPods.
My old airpods just stopped working yesterday, guess its time to upgrade. Im glad apple kept one pair without rubber tips. Can't use the pros because of this
I'm just here to say I'm still a bit jealous of the beard.
The real question is: Can you charge the AirPods 3 in the Pro case, and vice-versa (albeit with the silicone tip removed)?
I have exatcly both of the problems of the Airpods pro. They fall out because of the silicone tips and I get lightheaded and dizzy from the noise cancellation. So I got the airpods 3 (Upgraded from gen1) and love them, the fit is great for my ears.
I’ll be upgrading from First Gen. I hope they are good!
