You have to pull the injector connectors and crank the engine to prime the oil system. BMW put a tsb about this. You’re lucky you didn’t have any damage.
These things cook gaskets because of the stupid high oil temps they run at, on the N54/55 its so easy to install a BMS sport oil cooler valve, do it and save headaches. Wish it was that easy to do on my BMW V8s!! On the other hand, I just watched a whole video on something I already know how to do because I like the way Alberto works lol Good video
Thank you so much for the great video. Makes me super confident I can do myself. I would never had thought or known about the radiator bleed. My N55 serpentine belt started to squeal and I can see oil in that "famous" area...Superb...Thanks again.
Wow.. I've seen many DIYs on the BMW E90s and E46s, and I must say, you did a great job with narration, and attention to detail on the important steps. Great camera quality as well. I thank you very much, I must say that I have a 2011 E90 335i, which has a slightly different engine arrangement mostly from the airbox, from what i can see. Thanks again my friend. I'm now subscribed. I'm glad to throw you donation to support your Vlogs, let me know.
Your 2011 E90 335i probably doesn't have the oil cooler attached to the side of the Oil Filter Housing like Alberto's car in the video... Mine is also slightly different, in that I don't need the first gasket that he replaced.
This is a great comprehensive video! My oil filter housing wasn’t fixed well causing more spills, an engine smoke out and then a engine overheat all in a 15 months on my 335i with less than 50k miles. This cost 4K to fix because it was largely misdiagnosed. My mechanic didn’t even see the cross contamination with the coolant! I did and I’m a girl!! This video was a huge help in explaining the process to me. Thank you!
Also, love how you suggested to drain the coolant first!!!!!! And the precautions on the oil filter! You do clean work! None of the other demo videos explaining this fix take this measure which is great because when you have chronic leaks a clean job is paramount! Rock on man!
I did just this on my F30 335 2 months ago. Pretty easy, just tedious that was all. I made a grave mistake by letting the oil leaked so long. So I had to also replaced the serpentine belt and did major engine cleaning of oil.
nice video, very detailed and informative. my first car had no heat (i bypassed the heater core b/c it was clogged) and i live in NYC. the good ol' days.
Alberto is like the Morgan Freeman of car repair, I've done this Job 270 times but watched this video #1 Alberto is a legend, watching you work on cars is like watching any extraordinary master Mech #1/2 the Voice of an Angel. Alberto will you come to Phila and work on a couple N54'S with me 10k just to show and another 5 right before you head back to the Airport...hahahah your the Man bro ! Keep up the Masterpiece brother ✌
Thanks for the video, it was really good. I am hobby mechanic, this was my first engine work ever and your video was one of the main source for information that I used. Personally I had a lot of problems getting the intake out of the way also the oil cooler line ended up leaking a little bit, apperantly the orings are supposed to be renewed each time they are disconnected.
Clean job 👍 BMW Recommand to prime the oil circuit after major job on it. N55 can quickly have rod bearing issue if the oil pressure is low. Pull out the fuel pump fuse, remove the residual fuel pressure in the rail so it doesn't start. Crank it 3x10s, let the starter cool in between.
Awesome, I may be a bit ocd but, when you took the first plate off that the oil hardlines go into all that I could think of was porting that oil passage on the bottom left.
A tip for bolts in tight spaces, use about 6 to 12 inch piece of vacuum hose attached to the head and feed it. I also use that with spark plugs as well so I dont crossthread.
If I'm not mistaken there is a jack point dead center under the engine, at least there is on my 2009 335xi, makes it super easy to lift the whole front of the car, but I'm sure you knew that already Big Boost :)
So glad Alberto has this video up. I stopped watching adam LZ when he turned into a douche but I missed how thoroughly Alberto explains things. I think about half of us only watched Adam for Alberto's contributions and mechanical expertise. Now we can support him like he deserves. Instruct me through all my n54 problems big boost! 💪🏽
AWESOME JOB BIG BOOST but here in BOSTON its 6 degrees with snow everywhere ahaha FML cant wait for warmer weather for my e92 bunch of goodies goin in soon cant wait...keep up the N54 videos tho definatly lovin them
hi is in US The torx different az im in Europe and to unscrew this middle bolt , near the oil thermostat, i need to use T27, i tried with T30 but does not fit,
Hey Alberto, great video. I've been considering a 2006-8 Z-4 Coupe and it helps me better understand some of the issues I could encounter. Keep it up and best wishes for 2018
Is there any sort of temporary fix to this problem? Currently need some more time to get the money together for the fix, but is there anything I can do to slow the leak? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm not mechanically inclined but have been learning a lot with my car and do the work on my n55 335i myself. Haven't had a single issue yet but I know this problem needs addressed ASAP
So i'm not draining my coolant before i do the replacement, I know i'll lose a little coolant from the hose, but when i put it back together --- am i in the clear to drive it 15-20 minutes to my auto shop to have oil and coolant change? Or do i have to fill it up with more coolant?
Thank u so mutch i am going to refill my car and i dont know how is was done but thanks for this video iknow now :D one question,u bleed it twice are u just hitting the padal again for 10 sec and it start again the bleeding process and u have the air screw open intil in no more air coming out from it?
Alberto you shouldn't touch used motor oil man. It's one thing to touch it if you do an occasional oil change here and there and it's another when you touch it everyday to make a living. It's been observed that prolonged exposure to used motor oil causes cancer. Save yourself some grief for the future. You don't want to keep touching that stuff.
Dixie Racing Team Black latex gloves and a long sleeve shirt. I've had to wash enough grime and oil off of my hands and forearms to learn how to keep it off of me. Key word here is prolonged. It's not a possibility it's a recorded observation that constant oil exposure to your skin has caused cancer in the laboratory test environment. Read the warning label on the next quart of oil you buy. Just a warning man. Just looking out. Also you don't need to have contracted crabs to have had sex. :p
i also work on cars daily and i always use latex gloves when working with oil and work gloves work on other no oily parts. Not just for protecting myself but also because its so much easyer to just remove th gloves and your hands are clean.
My grandpa owned a garage and worked on cars his whole life. His hands were always very oily and he is still alive today at the age of 90. Literally everything we do causes cancer these days. Stop being afraid and just live god dammit.
I lost mine when I had I did it too I called almost every BMW shop asking if they have a spare one luckily I got one saved me buying the entire hose from BMW.
Nice video Alberto, shout out to the owner as well for the really good filming job.
One of the best and most informative automotive how to videos i have seen to date. Very well done and very well explained.

Now your oil is cold for like 20 mins instead of 5 mins. Bad idea
Thank you so much for the great video. Makes me super confident I can do myself. I would never had thought or known about the radiator bleed. My N55 serpentine belt started to squeal and I can see oil in that "famous" area...Superb...Thanks again.
Did Alberto work for a BMW dealership before or he just worked on a lot of bimmers at his old shop? He knows a helluva lot about them
justin powers his room mate is a big bimmer fan has 2 m3s guess he learned from him
Was Alberto a regular technician at one point or did he jump straight into high performance?

What a shame oil leak is very common issue for every BMW.. cost the owner thousands of dollars to fix it! great video👍👍👍

Awesome video. Dealer wanted $800 to do this but this video saved me a bunch of money.

I was so scared I pulled the injector wires and the fuse, and poured extra oil into the filter housing before cranking
BIGGGGG
....wait for it
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Great video dude. Mix these type of videos in with the E36 stuff.
Awesome, I may be a bit ocd but, when you took the first plate off that the oil hardlines go into all that I could think of was porting that oil passage on the bottom left.
You don’t actually need to remove the intake, just easy to get a universal joint. Worked a treat for me
Matt Hew Clan What do you mean? a univeral joint?
Yup and 1/4 inch long extension
A tip for bolts in tight spaces, use about 6 to 12 inch piece of vacuum hose attached to the head and feed it. I also use that with spark plugs as well so I dont crossthread.
Make this man ur camera man lmao
So glad you uploaded this. I need to do this to my n54 bad lol
If I'm not mistaken there is a jack point dead center under the engine, at least there is on my 2009 335xi, makes it super easy to lift the whole front of the car, but I'm sure you knew that already Big Boost :)
Hey Alberto, super Video. Can u please make more Videos about the N55?
Great video Alberto
Learned a lot about my 2014 335i same as that... would like to see more vids on this car in the future!
So glad Alberto has this video up. I stopped watching adam LZ when he turned into a douche but I missed how thoroughly Alberto explains things. from Alberto to Alberto well done and thx!
I am pretty Sure BMW recommends you also replace the bolts as well but great video either way!
Well done great video
Thanks to your video I have my oil leak fixed
Still helps to this day bro preciate it🙏
gotta do this to my n55 powered E70 X5. not looking forward to it, but looks simple enough.
Great video Alberto! Keep it up

Great DIY!! I'm actually doing my oil filter gasket tomorrow 👌👌
Big boost is the concept similar to my N20?
pretty much yes
Alberto BIGBOOST thanks
Fantastic detail, now I can do my 11 535i. Thanks Alberto !!!!
Excellent video. Thank you so much for doing this. I am tackling this over the upcoming weekend on my E92.
More n54/n55 videos please!! I did this job myself on my e60 535xi. that uncomfortable back bolt is the hardest and the throttle body bolts!
True show of your mechanical knowledge and extremly informative video. Great job Alberto!
-Stay Blessed
Random Lady: - Says something in spanish -
Bigboost: Whispers. What the hell was that....LOL
Good video, what was the mileage on the car?
Do you also have to change the oil ? Or just the coolest
Very good Video!! Did you remove all the oil leaking over the engine with brake cleaner?
Hey Alberto how much you think I should charge for this job?
depends how much you would charger an hour. normally id do this for 600-650
Alberto BIGBOOST ok thanks so how many shop hours for this?
Great video guys
is this workong with the waterpump on the 535i f10 n55 the same?
Nice work Alberto
Any need to prime the engine after doing this? About to do it in a couple days.
DOO MORE DIY’S
Buen trabajo Alberto
You just saved a million bucks !

Damn those bmw love to tick. I remeber stressing out so bad when i first got my n54 and heard that loud ass ticking without the cover on
It’s the high pressure fuel injection. The plastic engine covers are supposed to suppress the sound.
Really good video alberto keep knocking them out
So i'm not draining my coolant before i do the replacement, I know i'll lose a little coolant from the hose, but when i put it back together --- am i in the clear to drive it 15-20 minutes to my auto shop to have oil and coolant change? Or do i have to fill it up with more coolant?
How long would you say this takes? 2-3 hours?
Thank u so mutch i am going to refill my car and i dont know how is was done but thanks for this video iknow now :D one question,u bleed it twice are u just hitting the padal again for 10 sec and it start again the bleeding process and u have the air screw open intil in no more air coming out from it?
I guess since M40 engines, BMW haven't learnt to make proper oil filter housing, that doesn't leak.
when do you know when the water pump is finished bleeding the coolant?
That370zguy no more air comes out lol
about 12 minutes, or you don't hear the pump running anymore.
The master at work
Big boost to the rescue!!!
you dont need torque wrench for the bolts?
Great job Alberto. Do you kwow how much de dealer is taking for this job in America?
My buddy with his 2012 335i was told 950 at the dealer in tampa.
Good content great job on this video
More videos like this Alberto. 🙏
Could it be what's causing the leak on my dad n47?
Thank you bro great video
Big boost
Great job Alberto
BIG BOOOOOOST
@Alberto BIGBOOST Are you familiar with BMW coding using INPA/NEC?
Big Boost Tutorial i love it ! 👍💪
Awesome diy man!
Excellent good boy you are number one
Hey Alberto how you doing man?
awesome video. thx
big boost what up dude?
just uploaded probably one of the best DIY so far right now :)
This was an awesome video
I guess its a coincidence, but my f10 N55 needs a filtter housing gasket change too
I need to do this to my n54 it's leaking bad
iamzerocool same dude! , mines leaking from the same place
Anyone wanna create a tool list for this?
That BF1 one beenie!
How much would u charge someone to do that same job because obviously the dealers are charging about $1000
Good video
after it heats up, after a while it heats up and shakes, they told its a oil seel
I just did this job recently on my wife’s car. BMW quoted me $800 for the labor alone. Anytime you change those gaskets you make $800👍👍.
I was just quoted almost $1800 at the dealership

Crazy man, I hope you saved the money and did it yourself.
Alberto please tell me u in New York area

good quality keep it up!
i love your videos who are the two numptys that gave a thumbs down to this?
Perfect 👌
Did you get that clip that fell into the engine bay?
yup I needed it to hold the coolant hose in place
I lost mine when I had I did it too I called almost every BMW shop asking if they have a spare one luckily I got one saved me buying the entire hose from BMW.
That thicking sound on cold start is really sounds like a diesel
Where do you recommend getting brakes ?
Seth Davis i recommend getting them on ya car
stop tech rotor and pads, I did drilled and slotted
Wait, why did you take the intake off?
To have access to one bolt holding the sub oil housing
Super video ;)
