Thanks for learning the solo to Nothin But a Good Time by Poison with your buddy Uncle Ben Eller! Grab the TABs right here: www.patreon.com/posts/77458306?
CC is way under rated. Very catchy solos with lots of great, almost chuck Berry style licks with some fun wammy bar stuff. The solo to "I Won't Forget You" is another good one and starts with a cool, long bend on the D-string, which is a little unusual. Cheers! \m/
CC was my favorite guitarist of the 80s. Lita Ford dry humping a Warlock made me want to play BC Rich guitars... I'm a Jackson player now though... long story. But, Cecil's playing was amazing (on the recording). Live, I'm not a fan at all. His solos always fit the song, from "I Won't Forget You" & "Look What the Cat Dragged In" to "Nothing But a Good Time" "Fallen Angel" "Something to Believe In" & "Ride the Wind". There's actually GREATNESS in his playing but was over shadowed by his lackluster live performances where he took too much "liberty" because he was 💩 face drunk or on a coke binge. Had he taken the live performance more seriously & not treated it like a 24/7 party, I think he would've been in the top 10 of all time greatest. Especially of the 80s Hard Rock genre.
@@waynewest6160 agree totally. His live performances got him kicked out of the band. I play Jackson too. BC Rich became a completely different guitar company in the 90’s and now they sell gunslinger models like the CC nagel graphic..but it’s $6000..so no thanks I’ll keep playing Jackson
@@vaughanband my BCR final straw was "like a knife in the back" to quote Twisted Sister. 😂 I love my Demmelition Red Tide V. I've only had 2 Jacksons that I didn't like & 1 was a bolt on neck Rhodes in the late 90s & the other was a Kelly bad. Only hated because they were horrifically unbalanced. But, that was every Jackson outside of the Soloist or Dinky from that era. My 2 main weapons of choice now are the signature Demmelition & my signature Washburn Dime (Floyd Rose w/Dimebuckers). I just got back into playing after a hiatus of MANY years from losing my childhood jam bud. I'm hoping I can get to a level where I can teach my grandkids how to play & be able to play what I'm teaching them. 😂
The wife walked in the room and saw me standing there with a can of hair spray and a set of Ernie 9s and asked " um, what are you doing"?.. I said "Ben put out another 80's vid ! She's like "yeah, sure he did"... But he really did
I love your metaphors for when things get messy: "Just kinda floor it and try and land on your feet on this note". Great stuff, thanks for the breakdown!
The great CC Deville, back in the day when I was a closed minded shred freak I used to laugh and ridicule at his chops because he had nothing compared to Yngwie, Vinnie Moore or Tony Macalpine, then as I grew older I slowly began to appreciate how marvelously tasty his solos are, it just dawned on me, he had a pleasant raw tone and the simplicity of his note choices, the guy's a legend and I'm in the process of learning all of his popular solos
C. C. is a genius, love his solos... He's got such a great taste for classic American twang sound and it rocks and it's ballsy and melodic and is totally rock and roll. Great job playing this one. I'd love to see you take in Unskinny Bop and Life Goes On. ❤️🎸🙏
Before today I was pretty sure I could live to be 1000 and never see the words "C.C. Deville" and "genius" in the same sentence... it's comforting to know that I can still get surprised once in a while...🤣
It's amazing to me how much more I appreciate this solo decades later. It's actually a lot more composed and interesting melodically than I gave it credit for when I was slopping my way through it in hair metal cover bands back in the late 80s. Great job as always.
Forget the makeup, CC's solos and song writing were always on point, well crafted and well played. I always liked the way he fused the blues licks together, playing on the major third in a minor progression!
Always one of my favorites. We were all mesmerized by it when the album first came out. It just sounded EXACTLY like what a good time is supposed to sound like! I never turn away from this song just because of this solo. You play it almost exactly the same way I play it on air guitar. I dive a bit harder on the whammy bar on those pre-bends, but that's just a preference.
Never hated on CC. I used to think, "man I wish I could do that." Have always admired anyone that can lead out. As a rhythm player it fascinated me. Mad respect for drummers too. So cool.
CC is so underrated! I was so close! learning by ear for how ever long ago that was.. Im happy I was as close as your example. As alway, thanks uncle ben!
Aside from CC's excellent riffs and playing with Poison, the thing I was always amazed with was just how HIGH he could tease his hair! I can only imagine the amount of hairspray/gel/blowdrying that went into that 👀
Yeah, I get it... I also got the memo that said we're supposed to roll our eyes with C.C. DeVille/Poison... at most, I'm only supposed to like them ironically... but this song is just straight-up fun, and the solo is pretty much perfect for the song. I appreciate you going through this for us!
Figures I'm getting ready to start my shift at work when this comes out, will definently watch this one more intently when I get home. Got tomorrow off too for plenty of practice time.
Picked my jaw up off the floor....man that's spot on, and a great solo too. Introduced your channel to my brother a couple of weeks ago. He asked me about what vids I watch to up my game and I pointed him here
I've been enjoying this channel so much over the last 18 months or so, I decided to park up my basses for a while and just bought a new Epi LP Custom. First guitar in 25 years but it's (very) slowly coming back to me. I've even become inspired to learn theory after decades of winging it by ear.
Thank you Uncle Ben! I recently made a mental note that I wanted to spend some time learning how to play this song that came out back when I was in grade school. Your timing is impeccable 🤘🏼
Would have loved to see and hear your take on the rest of the song, don't think I've ever heard anyone play it the way CC does it, and I can never make it sound right either.
Dude, always loved this tune and this album (umm...and, like, that entire era!). Very nice job on the solo breakdown! I play an acoustic version of this at my live solo gigs and this one always gets the crowd going!
I remember learning this with a junk guitar and a junk tab book, it was incredibly painful 😖 My how times have changed, where were you in the 80's Ben 🧐 I still have that tab book so I think I'll burn it today 🔥 LoL btw C.C. was fun , I always liked the sound of it.
Hello Thank you for the lesson, If I kept trying to learn this on Yousician, I would fail even I tried it 5 years. The first part on the solo is so different almost on high e string on Yousician, so it's soo difficult. Appriciate for the real version of this, and middle, plus end of the solo. I am glad I checked this out, on how to play... Looking forward to more solo videos : ). You played great.
during "blues fury" from 0:28 to 0:30 Uncle Ben is using a raking single upstroke movement at full speed. If you try the later way at stepdad speed its a world of hurt!
cc was an underrated git player. i really enjoy his playing. every rose in my opinion is some of his best work. this song and solo were great. quite creative imo. i think he catches a lot of unnecessary criticism. Side note : cc played on a lot of other peoples recordings. cherry pie solo is his, i believe, to name just one but my favorite is his solo on sammy kinison’s wild thing.
CC is always great. I've seen Poison live in every decade since the 80's, one thing about his playing to me, it was always more old school rockabilly sounding. Which I loved. His Cocaine years, especially on the Flesh & Blood tour I knew either CC needed to get help but he was still super entertaining and fun, I've seen him a few times since coming back to Poison and clean he plays cleaner, but he's still the show when you see Poison. He's just so fun to watch and listen to..Which is his job and he does it well. I'd love to see Uncle Ben break down Life Goes On solo by CC.
Been waiting for you to do this one for a while....I've had a "version" I play of it forever but that legato run into the part up high never worked quite right
Thank you for a great lesson! I can almost play this at 75 percent speed, but totally get effed up on the legato part. Practice is key, but any good excersises to help me ge there? I have been playing to the metronome and worked on speeding it up but again lose it. I am sorry for the long story here. Keep to rocking all!
Video idea: a lesson on the incredibly emotional acoustic intro of to live is to die by Metallica. I've seen a million ways to play it but none of them sounded right. Another cool one would be the last lick in Brian May's solo on smoke on the water (rock aid armenia) at 2:34 album version.
Ask any gal.. .it sucks when your g string twangs out on ya.....jeesh. 🙂 excellent breakdown, man. I love that there's some rocknroll slop goin on in this solo. Always makes it sound better imo. Like a rock/metal solo...not an executed math problem.
Playing this tune on Saturday with #ThunderMonkey in Galveston, TX. Still working on that set of runs in the middle of the solo ... pretty dang fast! #facepalm Thanks for another great lesson Uncle Ben! \m| |m/
Hey Ben. I’ve been learning some bendy licks sort of like in this solo. How do I keep the string above the string I’m bending from making sound. It always wants to make some clangy tension noise.
So I'm still a bit new to theory and I'm really curious about what this scale angel vivaldi is using? He uses it in the intro of serotonin and a mercurian summer and I've been trying to figure out what scale/mode matches that sound but I just can't figure out? Think you can help?
Regarding CC. It’s hard for me to rag on a guitarist who plays with his own personality and style. He’s able to express himself well via the instrument. Isn’t that the idea?
All that section on the 5th, 7th, 9th fret etc - CC never seems to play live. Most recently, the most similar thing he does is something way above the 12th fret at that section
I only like two Poison songs this one and Every Rose Has it's Thorn. Always liked the solo in Good Time but all the recent videos I've seen CC doesn't do it even close to the original. I always thought he was too talented for the chick band Poison and wonder what he could have done in another harder rock band.
You should have painted a little face on the band aid just for the lols, as we see it go up and down the neck. Oh and still waiting for "out in the fields"......

Legend has it that if CC didn't come to audition with Talk Dirty to Me, Slash would have gotten the gig.
I could practice to the ends of the Earth and never be able to play that well.
Killer as always!!

This is awesome, my life will be complete if I can learn this solo.
I absolutely love CC’s playing. Don’t care what the haters say. He plays with humour, fury, and melody.
So true dude, CC is a legend 😎
Pretty sure the humor is unintentional.

God, i just need to start taking lessons. Might be my motivation to learn this stuff cause i would love to be able to play it
You can do it!
Consider this your first lesson. It takes time and dedication but what seems impossible on day one becomes automatic on day 10
Awesome lesson. Of course you played it sounding more like Richie Kotzen when he was in Poison than C.C.
Which is meant as an absolute compliment.
Those Bad Cat amps are not cheap! Love how it sounds like you’re using a slide on some spots!!
Not enough Aquanet in this video. It takes away from the tone. Lol. Pentecostal scale....classic. Tio Ben.... you are the man!

At around 7:13 when you're playing the solo slow, one can definitely hear Joe Walsh's "Life's been good to me so far" in that mix.

seems like every CC solo is classic
My fav all time song. 80s hair bands rule
Fun little fact I heard on a different video, it took CC 8 hours to record this solo cuz he was getting wasted all the time🤣. What a legend.
That Suhr made something move in my pants! 100%, movement was detected!
If that feeling persists for more than 4 hours, call your family physician!

Does anyone have a recommended lesson on how to speed up the blues lick Ben is nailing at 9mins 15s in the video that would be appreciated.
Reminds me of the pattern of on fire van halen on the six fret spread.
I got mascara in my eye. Class action lawsuit.
Would love to see a video on “When I find love” by XYZ. Killer solo on that song
