@5:20 "leads to Scale pattern baldness" ... I laughed and reached for my hat and guitar at the same time -- which is exactly why you're a top guitar educator. Well done, and Happy 2025!
Your observation about not losing motivation is really spot on. I was demotivated for years by being ‘behind where I should be’, not realising that just keeping at it was the main thing. Fortunately I found my mojo again last year and put in the hours, and I’m a better player than I ever thought possible going into 2025 because of it. Will definitely be deploying your guide as part of my practice routine this year. Thank you Ben! 🤘🏻
Still can't believe this year marks 12 years of me watching your videos. Can't thank you enough for all the improvement you've helped me realize and achieve as a guitar player over the last decade and some change, Ben. 🙏
Thanks Uncle Ben, your content is fantastic. I'm 52 & picked up guitar again in June last year. No idea where I'll end up, but hope the journey is fun.
The one I need to do, and I’ve known it for a while now, is learning and playing full songs. I always learn parts, riffs, licks, but never full songs, and it’s a massive disservice to myself. So that’s my number one for this year, full songs start to finish, including solos and layered parts.
Thanks Uncle Ben for a shred-tastic start to 2025!! Your videos have really helped my left and right hand coordination. I also feel more comfortable and fluid when I play. Cheers!
happy new year uncle ben, i already got my goals locked in, i learned to sweep at the end of last year, with help of you and dean lambs videos, this year is hybrid picking and just being more consistent in general, and also more time through out the year, no breaks just practice lets go fellas
Cool vid! Love that Ibanez! Been wanting to get one of those for my first 7 string. BTW Uncle Ben, your Ying Ying Milkshake brings all the boys to guitar practice😂
14:12 so, this has been the main reason why I'm frustrated with guitar youtube for years. It's just a lot of dudes shilling the same pitch over and over "YOU NEED THESE 5 THINGS TO BE GOOD" and it's littered with them showing off, shilling patreon, nothing happens for 3 minutes, they give you a demonstration of a random lick they just say "do it every day", but they say to do EVERYTHING every day, and they don't talk about student expectations or anything like that, they just drop content and move on. I massively appreciate that you take the time to explain why you're meant to do specific things, what to expect that can go wrong, how to fix them, and most of all thank you for saying that even the best players (besides guthrie) mess up a lot but they just refuse to show it for some reason. I think if people really want to teach they need to bring themselves actually down to the levels of the beginners and show that everyone actually CAN do it, instead of only showing the top 1% and not giving a proper expectation of what to expect on the grind for real.
Happy new year! All of these linked videos are so helpful. I wanted to say, the background music you have playing in this video really stood out. If this is your own original music that you've mentioned here and there, then I can't wait to buy it when you release it! It sounds fantastic!
Thanks Uncle Ben, I am currently recovering from Carpel Tunnel syndrome. Cannot wait to get better and play guitar again. A video on guitar injuries and how to prevent them will also be helpful if you can make it happen.
With these hot tips, I'm going to be playing like Ying Yang Milkshake in no time. On another note, Uncle Ben has the best collection of electric guitars I have ever seen.
Do you even work on your sense of humor? You're a NATURAL in that department man! I could not stop laughing at end of the struggles part. LOL. Great video. Hoping to be shredding some time this year.
Happy New Year, Uncle Ben. My goal for 2025 is to convince Uncle Ben to make some more Mastodon videos, Florida Gojina Line videos, and maybe if we are lucky, we would get "stuff Steel Panther does" videos.
Happy New Year Boss I hope your holidays were prefect. Awesome episode Uncle Benny Bob. Fun and Challenging as usual. No resolutions/shredolutions for me this time. Kinda got myself into a place where I basically have to start all over again. And what better place to start than right here. Thanks Uncle Benny Bob. Peace Out Shredder Scout !
Great start to the new year. Gonna go through them on Patreon cause I'm pretty sure I've missed a few. Happy new year uncle Ben! Funny how this uncle is about 15 years younger or so than I am but hey, life is a mystery.
Comment 200 woohoo! Love this video Ben. Just when I think i've heard all the variations you can come up with for Yngwie, you come with another haha. My resolution, which I've had for a while now and so will continue to work on, is indeed to play more songs from start to finish. Current song in the works is Joan Jetts I Love Rock n Roll. Bends and vibrato are also up there as a lot of songs I like and want to learn have them.
I've watched a grand total of 0:01 of this video and I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it's, "practice". Now I'll watch the rest. Thanks for all your content in 2024, sir.
"Scale Pattern Baldness" 😂 Haha fuck... This video made me LOL multiple times. Thanks for bringing the funny to your incredibly useful videos, Uncle Ben!
Never thought to try down picking to increase my alternate picking. The speedburst thing, I've seen Jeff Loomis to it more like a pyramid with 3 or 4 speeds, go up 3-4 speeds, then down 3-4 speeds, then back up, etc
The greatest uncle strikes again! How would you go about if you had multiple areas to improve? 5-10 mins each exercise of a specific area per practice session?
Happy New Year Uncle Ben! Looking forward to this. I’m on the hunt for a new super strat! Can’t decide. Jackson, Charvel, and possibly a Friedman. What say you?
I´m turning 33 soons and picked up guitar like 2 months ago. It´s been fun so far, the biggest challenge for me is usually finding tabs for songs that are easy to play. Seems like: There are none! 😱🤟
The first Ben video I watched some years ago was This Is Why You Suck At Guitar: You don’t play enough songs. I was like, damn, you’re right! And it’s more fun, too. Great advice for 2025, too. Maybe I’ll see what I can learn from Leviathan and then work on picking exercises.
Hello... i've noticed in other video's that your'e right Index finger tapping move goes upwards when doing the pull off... Eddie did it with a downward movement away from him i think and that's the way it's teached mostly... Cool to see that you follow your'e own rule here and play what's most comfy for you... Most habit's are not wrong, if they just work better for you...
I would really like to see you do Allen Holdsworth non brewed condiment, I really enjoyed when you did tumni notes from Steve Morse, this sounds equally challenging.
You brought up learning a new song...how about doing a video for this faithful Patreon member on Testament's Practice What You Preach?...it's got one of the coolest guitar solos EVERRRRR, that honestly I've always struggled with from start to finish.
Happy New Year uncle Ben 🎉 I just bought a second hand RG Prestige, the first stunt guitar I’ve owned in the last 20 years or so, then it’s off to the wig shop and I’m good to go ! What is the name of your yacht rock band?
I wasn't able to commit to a single song last week, but I will say my eat has massively improved with more time on the instrument. I really want to start jamming with others, but I'm so self conscious. Any suggestions? Im assuming "just do it" is probably the best advice.
Man, just get in there and go! When it comes to playing with others, Victor Wooten had the best insight; he said babies don’t learn how to speak by hanging around other babies. They’re encouraged to “jam” with people who have already mastered language (adults), and they learn fast by being in that environment and imitating what they see. We are no different! Get into it!

Definitely need to improve my skills in 2025 to become a true Shredi Knight. My resolution, more picking, less clicking!
@5:20 "leads to Scale pattern baldness" ... I laughed and reached for my hat and guitar at the same time -- which is exactly why you're a top guitar educator. Well done, and Happy 2025!
Learning songs & jamming with other musicians are the two best ways to improve IMO.
Hell yes!
Your observation about not losing motivation is really spot on. I was demotivated for years by being ‘behind where I should be’, not realising that just keeping at it was the main thing. Planning to spend more time in the woodshed this year and YOU will be there to teach me. Thanks man!

Happy New year Uncle Ben. Thanks for all your cool lessons

"Scale pattern baldness."...my news years resolution is stealing that phrase and using it in a sentence. Thanks.😁👍
I got a good kick out of that as well 😂
Uncle Ben rockin the Tusk.. that movie deserves more love 👍👍
Killer compilation too.. I use some of these daily 🤘
Here's to becoming a more better shredder in 2025! Thanks for everything, Uncle Ben! 🤘

Happy New Year! I’ve utilized a few of these. Thanks for the videos
Ben, you make us laugh. Just as proficient & natural at that as you are a musician.
That's a great collection of videos to reference. Bookmarked!! Thanks 🤘
Thanks Ben. You always have the best lessons. I have plenty of lessons to work on this year!
Let's get it!
Thanks Uncle Ben, I am currently recovering from Carpel Tunnel syndrome. Cannot wait to get better and play guitar again. A video on guitar injuries and how to prevent them will also be helpful if you can make it happen.
Best way to start the day!
Strumming > single notes > trills > alternate picking > legato > arpeggio > economy picking.
Thanks Uncle Ben ! Happy New Year
Thanks so much dude, I've been stuck and wondering why I'm even trying anymore. I really mean this, thanks man.
I’m so happy to be a part of your musical journey, man. Get into it!

Basic tremolo picking and more piano chords practice ❤
