Scoring JBL 4312A

  • In fact they are studio monitors
    The rare JBL 4312A is hard to score because many want them but you never see a good pair for sale. Some people are hunting for these speakers for many years without any success. I was lucky and scored a good sounding set. Normal people would never drive 145 km for 32 year old speakers but this audio fanatic did. Sluiskil is a separate village part of the bigger town Terneuzen, in the far end corner of the Netherlands. Many German and Belgium tourists find every year their way to this part of the Netherlands because it's surrounded by the sea. I am very proud to show you this video, the review and test video's are already finished and that will be my next upload next week.....
    It's impossible to upload video's on a daily base. If it would only be talking video's I could make 3 a day but for my kind of video's I need the wright microphone setup, and much time in editing. I also don't score enough to upload a video every day. Up till the end of September I will try to upload weekly but the last 3 months of the year I will try to upload 2 video's a week. The only way I can score more audio is when I pay to much for the stuff, did that in the past often but learned my lessons, youtube isn't paying me enough to cover my losses.....With your patience I will score most popular models in the coming years so don't doubt my channel when you see a weaker period in scoring, cleaning and reviewing, please be patience. This is not my job, this is a hobby, I can't spend 24 hours a day to this hobby, I have a live too besides stereo. Hope you can support this....To score something nice needs often hours of internet searching, often without any result, but when I finally score something I will take you with me to my adventures and review it later as honest I can be. Sometimes my honesty upset people but it's just my opinion, never doubt your stereo if you see a negative opinion from me, if you are happy with it the stereo does it works good. I only show you that there are better solutions if you decide one day to upgrade. Also never take my advice in prices for granted. The prices I gave are pure calculated on my hearing experience with that certain product. If you can buy a product for double the price I advised just do not hesitate because you think it's to expensive. It's what you want and desire , you have to live with it, not me. Some persons pay 3/5 times the market value if they want it, even if they know it's way to expensive it will not hold them back to pay to much....

    Hi Andrew, great score -- these go for $800-900 in good condition in the US -- and about double that in Japan. The sand aggregate spray-on stiffener on the woofers was never starkly white, but these are more yellowed than usual. A light application of 97% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol and a dab with a dry cloth will release and remove the nicotine resin, but they may never be completely white. Hope you enjoy the "west coast" sound, and thanks again for the scoring vid.

    I bought a set of new in 1978 JBL 4311WX Control Monitors the professional version of the original JBL L100 and had the same size drivers. I still have then and they are still in perfect condition and always sounded incredible on every type of music I play on it in 2,000 parties in 42 years. Always great a real legendary speaker still popular today. The new L100 Classic is better and cost more but worth it.

    Think I paid $150 for mine about 10 years ago. Drove about 60 miles to get them . Both are in excellent shape except the woofer cones were cracked a bit. I remove them from the cabinet and applied a thin layer of glue to both sides. It's not the prettiest but the sound quality seems to be very good

    The local stereo shop had the L100 speakers which would play loud without distorting. Overall they didn't sound good enough to pay the $400 (1972). During that time the speakers were all painted a grey color (not wood grain). I always thought the Marantz 7 speakers had a cleaner more natural sound.

      OMG I think you are wright here. Didn't noticed that until now. Already over 4000 viewers and you are the first to notice it.....Not sure if it will make any difference in sound but officially they are mirrored

    • @Relayer6a
      @Relayer6a 6 лет назад

      It shouldn't matter too much. 4311's sold for years and weren't mirror imaged. Won't give you the best stereo image possible and the tweeter on the left will be on the outside which causes some "notching" in the response. (There's a term for it, but I can't think of it right now.) It's unfortunate that whoever took these speakers from the pub, or wherever they were, didn't know better what they were doing. Still great speakers though. Best sounding woofer I've ever heard.

      We in the Netherlands are completely used to the very high road taxes and the very high gasoline price. Nobody here is complaining because if you think it's to expensive or you can't afford to drive a car you step over to public transportation what is very good here. You can also take the bicycle what the government tries to promote. Bicycle roads are here separate from car roads so very safe and what is most important very good for public health. In america a liter gasoline is only 40% from what we pay here and I am not sure if they have road taxes there but here a car from 1000 kilo pay annually about 400 euro, a car from 1500 euro pay 900 euro and a car from 2000 kilo pay 1400 euro. So dutch people pay double taxes for the car because gasoline is taxed for gasoline, the dutch pay 0.77 euro tax for every liter. And that 0.77 euro a liter is ex vat what is also a tax so in the end the total tax for a liter gasoline is over 0.90 a liter!!! People in the states would never agree with such high taxes. We in the Netherlands pay: 3,78(gallon)x0.90(tax per liter)= 3.4 euro per gallon on taxes!!!!

    JBL 4312As are a passive studio monitor, one of the most famous and well-liked models. The home version was the L100Ts, T for titanium tweeter. I have the L80Ts, home version of the 4310A, smaller 250 mm, 10" woofer, similar specs! The 4312s have a 300 mm woofer with an even heavier magnet structure. They sound best on a tube amp, or something "warm"! You should enjoy them, and that's a good price. You'll never get them for that in the U.S. The roads in the US suck because politicians refuse to tax equatably in order to create jobs and repair them. You'd think the word "taxes" was a swear word HERE. Americans are very self-centered and easily swayed by conservative rhetoric. In the meantime other advanced nations are cleaner, safer, healthier, and have better infrastructure, education and social services! Make America, not GREAT AGAIN, BUT MORE EUROPEAN, lol!

      Yeah, he got all excited, missed that important detail and bought a mis-matched set. Too much talking, not enough attention to detail. Somewhere there is a another mismatched pair of lefts.

    I think I'd have bought the amp just to destroy it... I have a strong hatred of junk like that. It's neither HIFI nor professional kit. It has no proper market, I'm amazed anyone buys it new.
    The JBLs are pretty cool though!
