Those Philips speakers look serious indeed. Clearly a great expert. I would just replace the cd player with a small tablet with some applications to do a bouncing sweep and maybe even get a freq response from speakers. Plus of course some pieces of music. Thanks for the always very nice videos. Regards, gino

If i'm testing speakers I use classical for mids and tweeters, and some early 70s reggae for the woofers. You have to give it some volume to throw those cones back and forth, to check the coils aren't rubbing on both the forward or backward motion, female vocals also good for mids.
Interesting! I use an SPL meter to test the relative output of the drivers (tweeters, mids, woofers). This immediately reveals if a driver is dead or having problems.
cnhhnc, I use a digital SLM (Extech 407730). It is amazing just how loud some speaker models can get. Using my Hitachi SR-804 receiver I can drive my EPI-180 speakers to 102dB+. This of course is not constant but "peak" readings and the sound is very clear and clean. I don't usually listen at that volume, however, it's nice to know my speakers can do it. A sound level meter is a great addition to a good hifi system, for testing SPL and just checkin' on the drivers and if you're curious as to how loud they play.
Last year i got 4 fb850 for free. All needed to be refoamed. Today they are ready to play for some time now but i have not the time to test them. (informal care) I also recapt and modified my Luxman L-230 (better transistors and led's). Also free because it was broken. I am very curious how the luxman amplifier sounds with the philips speakers.

In the end i wanted to help him with the speakers but got him very angry because i lifted one of the speakers over the trunk edge. He had his own system , blanket under the speaker and not lift it in the trunk but slide it over the edge..... he was very angry and raised his voice.....

What do u think about Canadian psb speakers in a surround set up?I just won auction for a yr 2000 pioneer amp with the big surround speakers and book shelf’s.Got for 30 euro. The new of the equivalent is 1200 euro per surround speaker.I got it all for 30.pretty happy

not sure if he worked at Philips but he know very much about these speakers , from the testing up till the shop version. He also told me that since 5/6 years electrical engineers are very bad because of bad education, it lacks them of practice experience the schools don't give them enough
@@vintagestereo Experience is something you get while working. But especially when it comes to sound there's a problem since the content has gotten of less quality as well. Much of the new music is based on samples f.e. and there's so much music that good sound became less of an priority. And many young people of today grew up listening to mp3's and cheap overly compressed streaming solutions. Also, good audio has gotten way more expensive. So it's not necessarily the education, but the culture and industry. I mean, the professors of today are mostly the same as the onces from 10 years ago. When we look at the industry, it makes sense that companies like JBL are moving in a different way. They make a lot of money with the solutions they sell now that are based on live style. Harman (who owns JBL, but also Harman Kardon and f.e. Lexicon that once was known for their R&D infrastructure) doesn't do anything with real high end audio. It's all lifestyle, experience and design. And Samsung who owns Harman but also AKG will not invest in it extra as long as people don't care for it. And the people who do care for it, generally don't look at the big players and of the more famous brands will go for brands like Dali and DynAudio. I respect f.e. a Sony that they still have stuff like high end amps, but economically it would be better to shut that part down. Not sure if Sony still makes speakers like the SS-AR2.
