Hey Joe thanks for running it through the paces for us. I'd imagined that big metal ring on the Milwaukee is the big heat sink to the small amount of water.

super interesting that the calibration fluid didn't work in the Milwaukee. I too have them both, but my MA887 is currently busted and back at Milwaukee for repairs. I was going to use that cal solution for both when I got it back so now I will not! The Hanna salinity pen seems very solid and quick. Great vid!

I have been using the Milwaukee for three years. I have tested it with many known salinity ranges. I find it to be incredibly accurate. I calibrate it with RO/DI. As for the Hanna tester. Do you still like it. It is my understanding that its great for freshly mixed water but no so good with tank water?

That’s funny I have that coralife and I’ve had my Hanna not match. For example Cora would read 1.021 and my Hanna would say 1.024. Idk if you had experience that. So which one I should trust. I’m new to the hobby 2 week old set up as of today.

Go to the Fish store let them test their or your water, then test it with your equipment!
Now you probably have 3 different readings Which one is to believe? probably the Fish store.
If you Really want the exact reading...
Calibrate your equipment and test your water write down the readings.
Send that tested water to a Lab blog.marinedepot.com/2018/10/mail-in-and-icp-oes-aquarium-water-testing-which-service-is-right-for-you.html
The returned Lab result is spot on Correct, now verify with your equipment.

For some reason my Milwaukee was like 3 time higher, so I didn't know if my hanna was off or not , had to end up taking both to the lfs and found out my Milwaukee was wrong even after I calibrated it, I called Milwaukee they said for me to clean it with glass cleaner to make sure I got all the salt off and if it still acting up to send it to them , havent dont that yet

Well that sucks. Hopefully Milwaukee can fix it . I’ve never had issues with mine. Ever tried distilled water for calibration ?

I had a Milwaukee MA887 and the instrument is extremely inaccurate. I sent it back to the company, they said it was working all great, but not in the real world. I can test my aquariums' water and I get anything from 1.020 to 1.029. Note that this is after calibration and careful cleaning. It's just a poorly designed product and I never trusted it. It's gone now.
