    They are saying something so true,when you are growing a lot on RUclips,it stops being a RUclips channel,instead it becomes a big business,hiring this person for that job,paying this guy for doing this,recording footage in this game for that company that sponsors you,you basically become a Ceo without necesarrily wanting it and this can be really annoying,not everyone likes being a leader and on top of all,you are losing what made you like youtube to begin with,making content yourself

    Every creator starts with good intentions. You are a freelancer, however when the fun becomes the "job" it completely changes the experience. Making content for extra money is great! Making content to feed your family is work and extremely stressful.

    • @OmegaXYT
      @OmegaXYT 8 месяцев назад +7

      The only reason the majority of these creators have been able to last this long is because they don't want to treat it as a "job". The moment they do it can lead to things like burnout which results in them being forced to take a break for a bit or as the topic of this video implies, they reassess and decide its time to pass that torch to the next generation, the flame of creation should never truly die.

Even jobs you really loved when you started them, can become a burden if they grow into something that doesn't fit you anymore. I admire these RUclipsrs for having the courage to make the change! Of course it's sad for their followers, but it IS tremendous courageous to head out into the unknown after you've been doing what you love for such a long time. This is a well put video about the simple reason for a lot of RUclipsrs quitting. I know that they’re not really leaving forever, but just stepping down to let others have their chance, like how Matpat is doing. I think that at least is how I want to view these videos when they say they’re quitting: they’re passing the torch to the next generation who can take the lead in what they do. I myself don’t plan to quit anytime soon, since I enjoy the content I’m making, and I’m not tired from it yet. I want to keep going and keep improving as much as I can, just so I can show people my passion and what I really enjoy. But yeah, this era that’s coming to pass is gonna feel weird, but hopefully the new era will introduce some new and fun people. Heck, I’d love to be part of that new era

      RUclips definitely has a different vibe compared to say 10 years ago. I think most people go into RUclips now with the idea of getting rich or famous where as the previous generation of Content Creators just did it for fun. Personally I don't think it's possible to go back to the way things were but it doesn't mean we can't try to change RUclips for the better.

    • @dionsheds
      @dionsheds 8 месяцев назад +5

      I agree that things have changed. A lot even, I've had my channel since 06 and the vibe back then has always been about doing/capturing something you love. That was what made RUclips so diverse because every creator was different and most people supported either their preferred niche/niche in general.... Likes, subs, comments
      I feel the vibe now has more pressure placed on ranking higher, making money and sadly, I think today's viewers just have shorter attention span and are not as invested in supporting content creation. Not all people but most.

    They really quit because the pay significantly dropped, and the work demanded by these platforms to succeed has increased 10x. Platforms are pushing quantity over quality, these creators are creative geniuses and have amazing production but aren’t getting rewarded for it like how they used to, they’re over worked, underpaid, and sick of the changes made by platforms to make them pump out a massive amount of content (even if it’s bad) just to promote unoriginal “salesy” content. RUclips shifted from a creators dream to a marketers dream, pay attention to what a lot of these creators are actually saying.

    People hate it when I say it but here it is:
    I find it strange or coincidental how all these massive channels are quitting shortly after the invalid views scandal.
    You can't rule that out. We know many channels have and still employ bot services or services that do not drive legitimate views.
    Now I'm not saying this is the sole reason for the attrition but also lets not forget that when you couple that with an ever changing & uncontrollable algorithm that is now apparently favouring smaller channels you could understand why the big guys at the top want out.
    Also don't forget most of everybody's views come from people that are not subscribed & won't subscribe, likely due to the content though interesting was not the viewers main interest, because the algorithm as been made public now, prefers to suggest our videos to people that do not watch our type of content.
    It is so frustrating to see channels that have videos with 10000s of views with legitimate comments and they only have 100 subscribers. It's heartbreaking to be a small channel for 5 years of dedicated hard work or more.
    But RUclips is the best platform, what can you do?

      @GiggaVega 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@DonGEX bro, I could relate all day. There are so many things that as creators we cannot control or influence. Here is something to consider about losing subscribers:
      Most people don’t unsubscribe, they usually become inactive subs, meaning they haven’t visited your channel in a few months so the algorithm will scrub them from your active subscriber count. Also lots of people cancel their accounts as well.
      Great luck and keep going & make sure you are creating content that people want to watch. Always ask yourself, “If I was a viewer, would I watch this video?” And if not then ask yourself, what you can do to improve it or what can you shoot that people are interested in. 👍

    Something that was making me feel very bad, was the fact that, everyday, at least 5 TIMES i was taking a look to the Analytics, they are growing up again because i am doing things that i like again, but i still have a lot of work to do to really make it perfect, and when i look to the Analytics, i see that i am doing it very well but i still need to improve, and if i think how much i need to improve wss making me very stressed, so, what i did? I started to only see the "Weekly Recap" and "Monthly Recap" from RUclips Studio, then i get ALL the informations that i need to know only 1 time, not every time. If you are not feeling very good, try to do not ALWAYS look to the numbers, they can take the control and this will be bad...

    Michael Gerber wrote about this years ago in "The E-Myth." Basically that any small business that starts out as a creative work of passion ends up as just another managerial grind. Not sure what can be done about it, other than hiring good people to run the "business" while you do the creative work. RUclips gives creators the platform to leverage creativity into a profitable business. Is there something after RUclips? I'm sure something is in the works, but it's not here yet (IMO). Feeding the beast what it wants (an unending stream of content) is a challenge, for sure. Is there a good work / life balance to be found? Not sure. Big creators will certainly have to accept less if they reduce their output. Less fame, less money, less influence. Yet they also "get their lives back." For some, the trade will be worth it, especially if they've banked big $$ from past work. Gotta admit, if I had a few million in the bank / investments, I'd be looking to retire, too. For others, they'll most likely continue to press ahead, at least until that Next Big Thing reveals itself.

    It's good for people to grow out of RUclips. I would assume that many of them have a safety net in place to sustain without it now.
    I too wouldn't want to do this anymore if it makes me feel like I'm no longer just having fun, but working a job which was one of the biggest reasons I started this last year to get away from that.
    I still have my job, but if I can grow an audience big enough I may be able to get my wife and I out of our 9-5 while just showing the world our genuine selves through our videos.

    Creating content is very time-consuming and it surely is taxing on big channels that feel the need to produce a lot of stuff. The pressure of having to come up with a new video on a regular basis is demanding, even for smaller channels. But then again, if you are doing it purely out of fun and ignoring the whole "algorithm", research and not modeling videos according to those, but according to your passion, I think you can strike a healthy balance, while still getting some income. Sure, you probably need another job, than a full-time YT creator, to be able to have enough money, but you also get to live and inspire at the same time. At least this is my guideline at the moment.

    This is exactly what happens when you take a hobby and you turn it into a business and you don't understand or expect that the hobbie can easily turn into a job when you scale. It's not much different than when you say take a job as an Engineer and eventually you become a Director in a department. You do things that have very little to do with being an "Engineer" and I know this because I went through that in my 18 year career.
    Good luck to those guys, I am sure they'll figure out their next steps. Like any other job, sometimes you have to quit and move to the next thing.

    It's a sad reality to see so many creators stepping away from the platform. I wish them all the best in their future endeavors. As for me, I do RUclips as a hobby therefore I'll keep making content as long as I'm able to. I have a job that pays my bills and I don't need RUclips monetization or a silver play button.

    Making high quality videos is not easy, and it could be a lot of stress. RUclips will demonetize your channel if you stop uploading videos for more than a period of time. It’s like a boss that demands you to keep making more videos before a deadline. It turns into another stressful job

    My favorite RUclipsr (funkyblackcat) said it best: you can either be rich af or sit on your comfort zone and post videos whenever you want as long as you have fun. Your mental health or business. The burnout state will always be there, but it's up to you to allow it to defeat you and encourage you to take action and do things that will sacrifice your own enjoyment in content creation.

    Most of the creators I've seen quit or take breaks never come back the same when, and if they come back. The energy isn't the same, and so their viewers stop watching. Then, when they aren't getting the views they are used to, they drop off. For me, I've been creating content since the beginning of time on over a dozen channels. I haven't had the breakthrough I'd like yet, but i feel like im at the fringe of getting over the hump. I definitely dont have the energy i had when i first started, but that comes with aging. I think we struggle when it comes to reality. We want to show everyone all the good stuff and forget about all the not so good stuff, but all the not so good stuff tends to outweigh the good. Even if there is a lot of good. Then there are the ceators that clickbait viewers acting like they're quitting, and it gets to the point where they should just quit instead of being fake about it just to get views. Im really not looking forward to the next generation of viewers because they are really disconnected from reality, and for me thats a turn-off. I feel like the new generation is using ai tools too much for scripting, and it comes off fake. I want genuine content. Anyways, im chattimg too much, and nobody cares, and I won't read this much. Narita, over, and out.

    Let's be honest here: many are quitting because RUclips is NOT financially rewarding anymore. Revenues dropped by 90% in 2023 and they're dipping further in 2024. Also, the platform has been hell-bent on becoming TikTok 2.0 which is really annoying.

    Nearly every day I ask myself it's time to quit. It's a long hard slog for a solo producer with a full time job already. But my end goal is not to quit my night job. I guess I need something else to do. Something useful and validating. That's what RUclips is to me. And, I have a hard time quitting because I feel I'll let down all of my loyal community. Not ready to face that yet, but also know that it's hardly worth it for only $250 a month to face that much pressure all the time. I'm 61. Maybe I'll have to re-frame quitting and call it "retiring".

    Not quitting yet but maybe is time to think a bit about why those huge creators didn’t enjoy what they were doing in the end and start making a change in what are we doing and what do we want to achieve by doing that. The constant pressure we have to make videos for revenue and views is ruining the content and it’s ruining the experience.

    Soo this is a time of change which means torches are being passed to those that have real followings not some paid for promotional services that promise some instant success or gratifying sense seeing massive numbers. If this time has come then everyone needs to understand there will never be a way to just buy success or get it over night. I've been working hard over the past year battling my own demons my own mental health but creating content has been something that has become such an aid for me, not just getting to love what I am makeing but getting to express myself, be genuine, not put up some obvious act for content like too many creators do these days.
    If it's time for change then that change should be genuine from those who really want to create because they love what they are doing. Not because they are doing it for money or fame if that's really why you are making content honestly just quite now

I quit my old job a few years ago because it was having a severely negative impact on my mental wellbeing & since then have been trying to change my life for the better. I understand it all perfectly. Sometimes a RUclips channel gets too big and grows too fast, and then it becomes a business. Then the fun of vlogging is gone. In my situation, my channel is growing far too slowly and that is also frustrating. After five years on RUclips, I have only just reached 1000 subscribers and the viewing time remains around 1500 hours. People who follow me keep writing that I make professional videos, so this is not the problem. But what is it? I monitor analytics closely, almost daily, I try to make SEO as strong as possible, I upload a video every week, ... and yet the number of views remains between 80 and 300 views. I also started thinking about quitting. Is this all worth it? I want to do well, but at what cost? And so I understand all too well that at some point it becomes too much, either because the channel has become too big or because it does not want to grow. Greetings from Eddy (Belgium)

    This was so very, very sentimental. You nailed the tone with this video, and brought out a very important point - change will always be inevitable. But regardless of that fact, it's up to each and every one of us creators to decide when, and how that's going to happen. So to everyone out there thinking of quitting; dig deep, and ask yourself if you'll be happy with that choice later on. If you know you will be, then allow yourself to take that step back.
    But if you feel you still have work to do, and that you will enjoy doing it for years to come - then show the world what you're made of, and push on. You've got this 🫡
