Such a personal, accessible and beautiful conversation. How deeply moving the humanity and "every man" presence Dr. van der Kolk expresses in his communication is to witness. I felt like I was at a coffee shop sitting at a table in conversation with you both. The beauty of the work for cultivating healing centers within and of our prisons is paramount, the powerful knowledge about the impact of trauma and the capacity to heal is incredible, and the hope for the future not only for prisons - including residents and correctional officers - but also the culture as a whole, is so uplifting. Thank you!
I am grateful for your heart to restore people in prison. My father was in and out of the system my whole life. He is now passed and my heart resonates with you.
It is healing to hear your fierce compassion and commitment to change. Your personal story of your pain as a mother reacting to a perceived threat by yelling at your own child, the ensuing shame around losing control, and the redemptive understanding and self-compassion you found in Bessel’s book-all very heart warming. Thank you for sharing this video. May all our systems absorb this understanding as quickly as possible so that we can heal as a collective.
What a wonderful interview and conversation. I do hope The White House is taking note, and State Governments! Sadly in the United States, prisons are big business for private corporations, and I suspect those corporations will lobby governments to maintain a status quo where prisoners are often used as cheap labor, no treated with compassion as fellow human beings. However, you ARE turning the tide! So much was covered in this video.Thank You, Thank You!!
Wonderful interview. Unspoken trauma holds such a weight on individuals, and as a result, can be brought into the family when it happens outside the family, and as an extension, into communities, etc... Thank you for the work you are doing.

Without dreams and goals there is no living, only merely existing, and that is not why we are here." ~ Mark Twain
What is a book you’ve mentioned before regarding trauma that results by the aggressor. For example: the soldiers that have come back from war and have trauma because they’ve raped or killed a child, etc.
Bessel van der Kolk - you changed my life! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Fritzi - I appreciate you so much!

EMDR has been very useful for me.
"Bessel, the Dad/granddad, I'd not only go for advice, but hang out with! Fritzi, the big sister, with the big heart, you'd call/count on!"
Sounds like "stages of development". ❤️

Look up GP penitentiary life wes watson if you want to understand prison and how it is in prison.
Also Anneke Lucas teaches yoga in prison.
What was the name of the program he said was having success within the prison system?
They taught Vipassana meditation which you can find all over the world and it’s donations only, you will never beasked for money
