Consider doing a paper accounting of your saved challenge amounts. Then at the end of a pay period or a month, physically remove the cash from the envelopes and reallocate the physical cash its self to where you intend it to go. If the cash is to be spent paying down debt, you will be money ahead in interest savings by paying it down as quick as possible including smaller payments during the payment periods. You can keep the challenge active until the challenge tracker is complete by continuing to add to it and coloring/ scratching through the card.
Budgeting is all about purposefully allocating income amd mamaging cash flow; even if its electronic cash flow and even if its barely covering the bills. One great dilema in managing cash flow is whether you amass it into fewer allocations or spread it out across many, many allocations. This group of savimgs challenges shows what happens when you distribute cash flow across many allocations.
The amount of cash set aside doesnt change. The amount of cash available to use for other than filling up an envelope is time delayed. This is because rather than filling up or completing A (or a few) savings challenge, it is spread across several incomplete savings challenges. While saved, the cash remains unavailable for use.

Budgeting is all about purposeful spending; this includes savings, sinking funds, and more. Just $20 would complete and finish up more than one of these challenges; $30 even more. Do consider stacking these challenges up so that the challenge with least amount of money to complete is sitting on top; the most money to complete at the bottom. Then start filling up the envelopes beginning with those which require the least amount.
This is a very interesting perspective. Thank you. I never looked at it that way. I will consider doing this so I can put the money to work while saving a the same time.
@@sewcreatetiff The average interest on credit card debt is currently 26.9% and a number of cards are creating into the 30.9% to 33.9% range. The sooner you pay down balances, by the day, the less you'll bleed dollars on intetest.
