Mascots Japan Redesign likely refers to Crash Bandicoot, who was redesignes to be cuter on Japanese Covers and comercials. Fun fact: the Crash Dance originates from Crash 1 commercials from japan, and naughty dog liked it so much they put it in Crash 2 onward.
"there were a ton of unnecessarily creepy ads for the playstation. Just check a few of these out!" And then I immediately got an actual ad. Terrifying.
37:00 Actually, Sony did it 3 times, with the PS3 being about half the price of contemporary Blu-Ray players, which allowed it to still sell decently well in its earlier days before the price drop.
how come u have so many good quality videos with so little views haha is this re uploads or have u had another channel before i like it its just odd such nice mic quality and so on u dont often see in so small channel just curious i like it =)
Great video!! Love that you took the time to correct yourself a few times which definitely shows you care about what you're doing, so many do these with such minimal effort. I would love if you did another video like this, maybe add some music in the back for next time with each descending tier? Definitely subscribed :)
41:08 fun fact, Screaming Mad George is a legendary sfx artist known for 80s horror movies but I had no idea he ever did anything involving video games I def need to look into this.
I think the 1999 concert entry has to do with Sony hosting a "Milk Can" concert to promote Um Jammer Lammy. It's covered in the Event Center of PlayStation Underground Issue 3.4.
Mascots Japan Redesign is most likely referring to the multiple mascot characters who had different designs in marketing and on box art in Japan. Crash Bandicoot was given a simple redesign where his hair tufts were orange like his fur and his eyes had Pac-an shaped pupils, and characters like Spyro the Dragon and Jak & Daxter were given more cute, chibi-esque box art while remaining identical in game. 1999 Concert may be referring to the 1999 dual release of the obscure games "Le Concert: Fortissimo" and "Le Concert: Pianissimo", two game that would get single disc compilation in titled "Le Concert" in 2000.
Great video bro! I'm from Brazil and only saw one original black PS1 disc in my entire life (if I remember correctly, it was a Tony Hawk Pro Skater game back in 1999). All PS1 consoles that people buy around here, including the smaller PSone ones, had the capability to run pirated games. This was a big deal since an original N64 cartridge could have the price equivalent to the minimun wage here on those years. A pirated disc was more than 20 times cheaper. Even memory cards and joysticks had cheaper alternatives for people to be able to buy them. These modifications also allow the console to be able to play VCDs, and this created a weird market of PS1 compatible pornography... Some of these pirated games got an unofficial translation too. i remember playing Castlevania SOTN with Portuguese text. In the 90s, only some PC games had Portuguese text. There was also Winning Eleven games (a japanese football/soccer franchise from Konami, that came before to PES) with brazillian clubs and players instead of National teams (similar to Ronaldinho Soccer on the SNES and N64). These was very popular.
Not to mention the most popular console, the PS2, which was never officially launched here, it is still the GOAT, and came modded from sealed boxes, bought in legal stores, (the most rare thing is to find a non modded PS2 in Brazil) 😂 DDR 5 foi minha infância 😂
A bit of a correction at 13:00, only the later "psone" models would actually check for the regional text on the boot screen. The original Playstations (as well as psones, as a secondary security measure) would get the regional information from a specific groove printed onto the game disk that couldn't be replicated by retail CD burners. This is why solutions such as the swap-disc method work in order to play backups, you put in a legit disc with the groove so the console can get the regional information, then swap it out with your backup disc.
I don't remember if Blockbuster had the PS1 before release, PS2 MAYBE, but it was definitely a thing. Especially when the PS2 dropped and you couldn't find any anywhere so the only way to play the PS2 was to go to Blockbuster everyday to try and catch a new rental, this could be the reason why I don't remember too clearly
I’ve been looking for more Ps1 icebergs idk how I didn’t find this. There’s a Ps1 game obscurity iceberg I think would be interesting for somebody to cover
We never had the money to buy a PSX during its runtime, so I was still using my SEGA Mega Drive 2 until the late '90s. Then I got my first PC, which was also a really old machine. Anyway, this video is amazing for me because I'm just rediscovering this incredible console via an emulator on my Steam Deck... And I'm commenting on this video even though it's already a year old :)
I miss those cryptic game commercials. It was so much cooler than these shitty montages of games I probably won't play with music that I don't like. All with mediocre transitions between the footage that I could make in davinci resolve
@@jaydayoungan632 Use your own brain. They have a tendency to come crawling out of the machine in a panic once they ARE moved (and right back into the room to hide elsewhere) so unless you're chucking it outside *immediately*, it's not a fun time.
I downloaded the crash 2 mod level snow no like three years ago, it's a level that's extremely difficult and fun and it has modified soundtracks,I never got all the crates in the level And i was surprised how this mod was deep in the ps1 iceberg 😅
The PS release videos is a red E lol The O and X difference is because in Japan O or circle means yes or selection and X meaning no or cancel so definitely a Japanese thing for sure.
even if Sega did the deal with Sony, judging by how poor their business skills were at the time they probably would have failed just as bad without Sony. if it weren't for Yakuza then Sega would be worthless to me.

Polygon Man also appeared in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (2012) being the main antagonist forcing other mascots to fight each other.

Man, this video was really well made and enjoyable. Keep up the good work man.
4:11 the Square Button is used in LBP to get to the popit, a funny easter egg for the history of the button meanings
Spyro is my favorite mascot.
15 seconds in and that sound...wow does it bring back memories.

Looked it up, can confirm, some of the weirdest shit I've ever seen 😂 it's a creepy 3d pinball game
Thanks for making this iceberg! The editing is really good :)
I think the 1999 concert might have been a concert for the game um jammer lammy released in 1999
This was such a wonderfully made video. Lots of cool info I never knew presented incredibly well. Can't wait for more my friend.
God I’m so old. I definitely had PS1 with controllers without DualShock. It was a BIG DEAL when they came out.

I love the videos, it's very underrated keep it up!

12:10 Willy the Wombat has a SEGA Saturn game by Hudson Soft. They got the brand before, forcing Naughty Dog to change the name!!
Great video bro 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Cooorrr the intro noise took me back.
Really really great video! Keep up the great work!
10:58 their modern mascot is a little robot i forget the name of

OHHHHHHH THAT SOUND GAVE ME CHILLS

$299 was a lot in the 90's, it's equivalent to $600 - 700 in today's money
ps2 iceberg when
26:18 what was on it????

yooo yes it is fearful Harmony
Late to this party. I also want to know how a red e stands for ready??
35:00 same reason you should put old used microwaves in a bag before you unplug them to throw them out. Bugs LOVE hiding in unmoved electronics.
That literally makes zero since. If you're throwing it out, then it wouldn't matter. Use your brain bud.

Idea: have the ps2 run on ps1 games, ps3 for ps2 & 1, so on and so forth so you can just buy the discs.
My life in gaming - if I recall the channel name - shows off how they played PS1 before NA release
17:45 saturn
The PS release videos is a red E lol
The O and X difference is because in Japan O or circle means yes or selection and X meaning no or cancel so definitely a Japanese thing for sure.
Any tips for doing videos like this
Com-pill-ay-shun = compilation 🤣
24:33 Sega does what Nintendon't ?
I think the Japanese redesign could be referring to Crash Bandicoot because he has a slightly different design in Japan.
I like, but the likes are at 69.
I mustn't ruin it for the cultured ones.
"E" meant ready because the e was the colour red
