Just remember what Thais live off. A B700 a day many of them. Have B3000 days, and B800 days, when you eat at home, go for a walk, watch TV. Train at the gym, and read books.
Found out there was Jetstar direct flights from Perth all of a sudden, about 440 return plus $80 baggage for 20kg both ways pretty damn good, that was for early next year anyway... prefer thai airways though
you need to look up your currency conversians for starters mate, $35 aus is equal to 851thb, and why get a taxi when the bus from Suvarnabhumi Airport only costs 140thb, and is air conditioned and very comfortable far better than any taxi they are faster too and zero stress,
if you don't pre book you might have to wait around for an hour at the airport ,,,but yes the bus is definitely cheaper...Also the bus will not drop you off at your hotel you will need to get a motor bike taxi or a taxi to take you to your hotel or walk from where the bus drops you off...best for taxi is to find a new friend or two at the airport many people willing to share cost and share a taxi or a bolt from the airport you will make some new friends split the cost for 400 bht each or 600 if only two of you and you get straight to your hotel, either way is all good. I use the bus sometimes but best to pre book the bus online or you might have to wait for the next bus.
the driver will if it is on the same route, just let the driver know, and they usually oblige, all that restful comfort aircon even a toilet, so it's a no brainer really, i went by taxi in the beginning until i realised how much better by coach/bus is in every way, the price difference is just insane, and since they are every hour, just buy your ticket and chill till it's time, what you talking about pre-book it's a first come first serve, have you seen the queue's at the taxi ramps in the airport, are you mad, sorry but you asked for that one mate, i don't mean to offend you but it really is common sense,

All very useful. I'm widowed and am retired in Australia. I'm reasonably healthy, 71 but have been told I look younger. I have absolutely no family now my wife is gone and no obligation to anybody. I'm not unhappy where I am, it's a nice house and I own it, I get the Aussie pension and have some cash so I live well enough, but not very excitingly. I live in Hobart where it's very cold and it occurred to me that maybe I could live in somewhere warmer during July/Aug/Sep and Thailand might be a good fit. But I've never been to South east Asia before so I have to come and look first. It all looks rather too good to be true, but if I fall in love, either with a woman or the country, I could easily move there, nothing keeps me here. If I sold here and used all the funds to buy there I'd be looking up to about 15M Baht and I've seen Condo's online at that price which would really be far more than I'd need. But I'm getting way ahead of myself. I'm going to come over for a look but I'm not sure whether I should come for two weeks of four. I understand I could stay longer on the same visa if I wished? 60 days? I'm thinking to plan for a month might be best. I want to look around at real estate, both to rent and buy, at various price points, so that'll probably take some time. I can probably easily afford more than your budget requires, especially on accommodation, but If I can have the kind of good time that you describe even at twice the price I'll be happy. Maybe I'll decide to do a a fortnight four time a year and just keep it simple. Whatever, the first thing is to renew my passport and get to grips with the logistics.
@@allisonnpetersen I'm definitely going to at least come for a look. I reckon a month should be enough for my first trip. I can always extend if I feel a desperate urge.

Thailand definitely aint cheap anymore and telling people to come for two weeks on 3500 baht a day means they are going to be very miserable just like you
Not cheap buddy, inflation is rising fast, the Thai economy is struggling at the moment and prices are increasing. It depends how you want to spend your holiday. Compulsory travel insurance also required. This is an add on of about 400 to 800 Aus dollars on top of your air fare. But certainly not getter any cheaper. It's a little worrying your advertising prostition on your channel. Not a good look buddy.
