Since Abruzzo, especially L'Aqulia is surrounded by mountains, it is one of the most untouched, isolated areas in Italy. Inhabitants of Abruzzo are most genetically similar to the Romans than even the citizens of Lazio because of geography.
My mama & her parents were born in Region of L'Aquila in a village called Fontecchio. Not sure it's still there as they left in 1930 to come to America.

Thanks for showing Abruzzo. It truly is a secret, and many look down on it, but for me to go back a few decades to a slower time is perfect. Seeing Gran Sasso on one side and Maiella on the other is wonderful! We've had lots of snow recently, but the mountains keep it from the coast unless it comes from the East. I made snow angels on the beach a couple of years ago!

I had a friend sell an idea to discovery channel that became a show.Your camera work and production are so good you should try to do the same to HGTV. Great introduction to the beautiful land of Abruzzo. I am from Rome and I am in love with Abruzzo, I go there many weekends and everytime I discover something new, even after 29 years visiting it. From a naturalistic point of view it's the richest region I have ever seen, not just in Italy but in the whole Europe. You won't believe the wildlife that exist there. There are villages like Civitella Alfedena or Villetta Barrea where wild deers walk in the streets or people's gardens, there are no other places like that. You have seen really a tiny bit of that, I suggest you go back soon! Forget the big cities, if you like nature Abruzzo is the place to go. If you do you can contact me, I can tell every information you need :)
This is a wonderful comment, thank you very, very much. As you stated, Abruzzo is such a large and incredibly diverse region, there's just so much to see and experience. Or, you may e-mail me at anthony@sojournitaly.com. I'd like to contact you before I return again (hopefully next June or September 2021). Thanks again!
My Nonno was born in Abruzzo, Navelli and he told me the stories of the war and how the Germans would come and shoot at their village and he told me all the crazy stories from when he was in Navelli for 18 years. Next year I am going to Italy hopefully if the virus settles and I can see the beautiful village that my Nonno lived in and experience the stories he told me about his life in the village and how he came to Australia.
Thank you for your incredible comments...the stories your Nono told you as a child sound interesting and having spent time in Navelli, I can imagine what it was like in my mind's eye. My grandmother has similar stories from the war - bombs going off in nearby villages and the Americans walking the streets giving candies out the children after the Germans left. Our grandparents are a wonderful link to the past. Again, thank you for your amazing comments! Be well.
Vanessa Mac Donald that is such a lovely compliment. Thank you very much for sharing it with me. It makes me happy to know you enjoyed the video and that it made you feel like you were there! That’s so cool. All my best to you!
This was Awesome,,, My Grandparents on both sides are from Abruzzo, Provincia di Pescara, Kiete, and also Casbordino. I learned how to speak the Abruzzi dialect prior to speaking English,, as we resided upstairs from my Grandparents. What an awesome adventure it was listening to all the Italian stories,, some of my Grandparents would forget I knew the language and would say oodi mamamia,, I forget he understands everything,, as I would laugh and giggle at that. However I would not ever want to change a thing being brought up in an Italian Atmosphere.. Again Thanks for this video,, have now just subbed,, and am looking forward to much more. Have a Great Day, Peace and God Bless,, here in 2021.

@@bitbugsbyte if you don't mind sir, I would suggest you to check properties around L'Aquila, Abruzzo's capital. In town the prices are much cheaper than anywhere else in Abruzzo, due to the 2009 earthquake. You might find properties in historical buildings for less than 90,000€. Should you be interested in properties in the countryside, I would recommend to search lands and houses in Capestrano, Ofena, Navelli, which are in L'Aquila province too. In this second area it's very common to purchase land for vineyards and olive trees. They are old fashioned villages at the feet of mountains, surrounded by the national parks. I live in a small village nearby L'Aquila and I am fixing my grandfather's old house, which is from the 16th century. I will never sell it as it was built by my grand grand grand fathers. But many properties are being repaired around my area. The province of L'Aquila is for countryside and trekking hiking and nature lovers. And it's at just 1 hour from Rome airports

Spent two amazing weeks last September in Abruzzo. We rented an old farmhouse immersed in olive groves, with a private garden and swimming pool. The silence was like nothing I have ever experienced. We ate wonderful food in the local villages and towns. Paradise! Loaded up on Vitamin D naturally, mental health restored without meds. Looking forward to going back next year 💙
This is such a wonderful comment. I agree with each of your sentiments. The silence here is like no place else. Thanks again!

I hope you have a wonderful time in Abruzzo! Thank you so much commenting!
Since Abruzzo, especially L'Aqulia is surrounded by mountains, it is one of the most untouched, isolated areas in Italy. Inhabitants of Abruzzo are most genetically similar to the Romans than even the citizens of Lazio because of geography.
Vladimir Dažbog thank you for commenting! That is very interesting indeed. It makes sense!
