Not my favorite faction but I'll be damned if Fortress don't have the best town theme soundtrack, ever. Really puts the emphasis on fantasy with this soundtrack.
This theme has a 30s gradation, that can be extremely surprising and from completely "boring" start will give you goosebumbs and when you think the gradation is over, it will add the great finale, that can make you cry if you're not prepared. LOVE IT.
@Xecutionner2K I don't agree at all!! Just because Fortress is weak it doesn't mean that commandered by a skilled player it has to be this way. The most valuable units in basic H3 are Mighty Gorgons: the best units to deal with 7lvl creatures. Every castle has it's weaknesses and pros: u just have to find them.
I know, it's not the strongest castle, but i play as it, because units are interesting, i love reptiles, high defense stats, good heroes, *and this theme*

This faction has an incredibly good early game, because of how cheap everything is and how you can potentially get wyverns on day 1. This is the faction you choose so you can crush everything for the first few weeks before capturing a different city which you'll use for the endgame.
@Xecutionner2K if you played WoG (fan made expansion), fortress becomes godly. But in plain heroes 3 and the "official" expansions, fortress is still good. Dragon Flies are solid, Tazar is a top 5 hero in the game (by the time you are level 8 or so, your armorer bonus is ridiculous). Mighty Gorgons are the best unit in the game vs level 7 creatures, and Chaos Hydras are respectable.
@DTX180 There are too many variables to take into account for HoMM, and you seem to forget it. Because the game is very random (and competitiveness excludes random factor) you will never exactly know which race is the absolute strongest. On poor maps, Fortress & Stronghold got their chance sure, BUT Castle overall strength >>>> Fortress overall strength. How can you even argue about that ?
@tna19931 Well their bad mage guild was for balance cause of their pretty awesome heroes and units who had nice abilties like mighty gorgons' gaze. and poison of wyverns. and remember that you cant get all those spells in beginning and even after it warrior hero can own mage easily. Furthermore fortress can capture other towns and take spells from their mage guilds. wort town? rofl
BTW: who said that u have to use their heroes? I personally use a barbarian to command fortress: a slaughter in the battlefield when my army engages :)

@DTX180 Irrelevant comment. Tazar ? Lol you aren't even sure to get it. If another non Fortress Opponent get it you are toast. Chaos Hydras suck without Teleport, Dragon Flies are terrible. I agree about Mighty Gorgons.
@Xecutionner2K under that logic castle sucks because the only good hero is sir mullich. You might not get him! Also stronghold sucks because you might not get crag hack! Dragon flies are great early speedy units. If you are on a map with low resources dragon flies will frequently give you first spellcast, which can be crucial. Dumb comment by you.
@Xecutionner2K I'm arguing your logic behind why "tazar is irrelevant". Castle has only 1 good hero (sir mullich). So you shouldnt pick castle because you "might not get him". Thats why you didnt give tazar respect after all......Doesn't matter that castle is better than fortress, it matters behind your logic on why "tazar is irrelevent"
@hurisija Wow, Incredible how people that don't know the game mechanics AT ALL speak about balance ! Ofc Fortress is by far the weakest town. Weak units, borderline bad level 7 UNLESS with teleport spell (from other castle...) and defense is useless if your enemy got better units. The ONLY chance Fortress has got to win : Capture another castle before week 2. Sad but true.

7 people must had enjoyed heroes 5 / 6 musics instead of nostalgic ones. This is one of best town themes in heroes 3 in my oppinion :D

Fortress aint good for much, their only unit that pulls their weight are the mighty gorgons. But their soundtrack is damn fine!
