Mike LePond would be proud! Absolutely nasty song to play on bass, especially with a pick. I remember trying to learn this when I was just a kid, now I'm an adult getting back into bass and it's like... man. I don't even know where to begin. Although by the looks of it I can begin by down tuning.
OK, let me add this track to my setlist. And tune down my bass. And create a specific down tuned setlist, in fact. And thanks for the tabs, I'm in need for SYX bass tabs! In case of you would be interested/available for this challenge: I'm also searching for "A Fool's Paradise" bass tabs (SYX too, album "V"). The "winning prize" is to be added to my setlist and make me work the track here. Not much though, but still. :)
For the little story-time, I'm a French fan of Mike LePond, and about 15 years ago, he signed my bass before a gig in Paris. I'm a true fan of Symphony X since half my life :) I remember that on this show, there was 2 bands in the first part. A Nordic (European) band I don't remember about, then Symphony X, and the show itself was for Stratovarius. A big time of my life.
@@Vykuu It took me about 4 weeks to learn the notes and be able to "almost play it" at 50% of the normal speed. I think I did the easy part. When I set the speed to 75%, I'm lost already. Tell me, how long did it take you to be able to play that song at the normal speed? I mean I would need a goal to (try to) achieve :)
@@Shamanix000 I don't want to daunt you but I'd say it took me years to be able to play such songs. For this one especially I could not tell, I always play lots of different songs at a time. There's no secret but practice, setting the bpm a bit faster each time is a good way to get there, but the hardest part is to keep motivated !
@@Vykuu I used to play music when I was 16 (I'm 39 now), so I know what's ahead of me. I went back to playing music 1,5 year ago, after about 10 years through another art (writing), so I'm not starting back from zero. And, well, if I was afraid of playing difficult songs, I would have stayed on Nirvana or Radiohead :P But it's the Metal I discovered when I was 19 that showed me we can be bass players AND have fun with our instrument. Yes of course, difficult tabs makes it harder. But without difficulty, there is no pleasure in success, and I'm seeking for pleasure when playing. I'll keep you updated with my progress if you want ;) Even if we're talking of something like years of practice :)
It's incredible playing this bass riff with a pick
Freakin’ awesome! Just amazing!

Ah ah thanks 🙂
That's funny because I'm in the same case here: I tried when I was a teen. Now I'm nearly 40 and I came back to bass last year!
I think Thomas Miller was the bass player at that time, just to be more specific ;)
@@ThiagoTheobald You may be right. However, I have the Live in The Edge of Forever album (2001) and this track is also played by Mike LePond :)
That is one sexy Warwick. Nice cover too.
🖤
Amazing!
damm you're good holy shit
Thanks 🙂

Thanks :) I wish I had time to record covers again... I'll keep this one in mind, I was also thinking of Domination, but it's a tough piece !
