Hi Dave I installed my Wyze cam v2 by the front door in Oct also under my Eaves where it is well protected from the rain and snow. I live in Western Canada where we get a lot of rain and it is snowing as I am writing this comment. It has been below freezing a few times this winter and the Wyze Cam is working well.
I have 7 wyze cams outside in Phx AZ. They lasted well through last summer and still going strong. I would advise using a good sd card as the cheap ones I used failed after a few months. Now using Samsung extreme cards and they work well. Amazing cameras for the price. They do the job well.
Thanks for the exterior install vid! That big USB port on the back is for daisy chaining Wyzecams -- so you could power another one around the corner without drilling another hole into the wall.
I've had two wyze cams (one pan) installed under the roof eaves for almost a year now with no problems in the cold rainy PNW, except for having to constantly clear cobwebs away from their line of sight with a broom in the summertime. I also used a long-ass usb cable, but was far less invasive in routing and mounting everything.
I did this with one of these right after they came out. It's under an eave on our back door. We're in Colorado so COLD and wet winters, HOT summers... no problems. It's been running non-stop for well over a year with no issues.
The 14-day recording and the 32GB micoSD card are two different things. Wyze gives you cloud recording of 14 days of approximately 12- to 15-second video clips of events picked up by your WyzeCam. You can setup your local recording to the microSD card for either continuous recording (which fills it up in several days) or event recording. If you choose continuous recording, the WyzeCam will erase the old clips with the newest clips. This is a great feature, because if you’re notified of an event, you might not capture the actual beginning of the event, depending on the sensitivity level you have chosen. However, if you have continuous recording enabled, you will be able to rewind earlier than when you were notified of the event. I have two WyzeCam Pans, and both are set to continuous recording. Later this year, Wyze will be releasing “Wyze MaxDrive,” which will give you redundant video recording storage. For example, if someone steals your WyzeCam, you might pick up the perpetrator on your inside hard drive. Wyze is also said to be releasing a true outdoor camera later this year. I’m hoping they’re released before my next big trip. Good luck!

I purchased 4 Wyze Cams over the past several months. In that time, one of the cameras lost its IR capability and none of their mic talk functions ever worked. I didn't feel that I should have to deal with that so I asked for a swap of a new camera, but again, I would have to jump through hoops to make that happen. I make decent money as a business analyst and considering the time and effort it would take me to fulfill that request, along with the cheap price of the camera, it wasn't a cost effective swap for me. There were other issues such as frequent audio blanks in addition to obvious omissions of things the cameras should have recorded like deliveries being made at my front door. In my opinion they rolled out this product before vetting all of the basic functionality which would explain why many many other Wyze Cam owners are having the same issues. The upside to this product is the function over cost. I consider these disposable products and do not recommend them in critical areas as it isn't a reliable product...short or long term. If are worried about water getting in thru the top just get a large clear plastic cup. Cut just enough of the side of the cup so it slips completely over the camera base. Leave enough of the bottom of the cup to adhere to the surface via 2 sided sticky pads. Also cut enough of the height of the cup so it hangs over the top of the camera without obscuring view of camera. Use the 2 sided sticky pads to attach bottom of cup (upside down) to surface. Use a big enough diameter cup so you can still rotate camera once your "plastic shield" is installed. Cheap and easy. Infinite variations of using clear plastic to act as a rain guard.....

I got a USB power adapter that has a 90 degree bend in it, for installing my WYZE camera power feeds behind pieces of furniture close to the outlet. For the last 10 years I've use my old, "indoor only" SMC IP camera outside, with no special case or any problems, just covered by the eves of the house. Only weird thing was the bird that attacked it a few days after I'd originally installed it, obviously noticing its white and black pattern and getting concerned about it. Biggest problem I have with the WYZE cameras is the unreliable, beta firmware they provide for RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) streaming to PC based surveillance software like iSpy. This firmware requires a manual reset every few days or hours because it just stops working after a random amount of time. Picked one of these up recently and was curious how it was holding up for you. Looks like it's been about a year since you posted this one. I've been debating the housing thing as I was going to mount it about in the same spot as you have yours set up. Just curious.
If the location of "Back" is that of camera, Big time NO. This camera warm up a lot and you don't want to mess up with ventilation fenestra on the back. You can keep it under a shade to prevent water entry though. I had no problem with insects or dust.
Hey, Dave; thanks for this! You inspired me to try the same thing and I mounted my Wyze cam under the garage eaves to guard a backyard gate. (Sadly, quite a few handy things aren't sold here and Amazon.com won't ship them to Canada either.) funny guy. really authentic. i enjoyed this review
My Wyze camera has been a lot more realizable then the amazon blink camera. USB powered is a bit of a pain but worth it if camera works better.
this guy is a wildman
How do these camera hold up in winter months outdoors? I bought 2 I keep inside the house facing at windows and the glare renders them useless. I will put them outdoors now that I’ve seen your helpful videos. Thank you. I really needed the info you shared.
Good to see you doing physical stuff again! 👍
Picked one of these up recently and was curious how it was holding up for you. Looks like it's been about a year since you posted this one. I've been debating the housing thing as I was going to mount it about in the same spot as you have yours set up. Just curious.
Great video.....n u made it look too easy, been a year is it still WORKING... n where is the update??
Enjoyed the video - did you consider sealing up the back with some silicone?
If the location of "Back" is that of camera, Big time NO. This camera warm up a lot and you don't want to mess up with ventilation fenestra on the back. You can keep it under a shade to prevent water entry though. I had no problem with insects or dust.
Great job, now come and install mine 😁
Hey, Dave; thanks for this! You inspired me to try the same thing and I mounted my Wyze cam under the garage eaves to guard a backyard gate. I have temporarily used the double-sided sticky tape and disk provided with the camera as I was unable to order a mounting bracket like yours in Canada. (Sadly, quite a few handy things aren't sold here and Amazon.com won't ship them to Canada either.)
I have my fingers crossed that (a) the camera will stay stuck up there, and (b) the weather won't kill it. :-)
Thanks again for your tutorial.
Bruce Walker how is the cam doing n how is the metal n 3m tape doing
@@funkingbros4851 the camera's working fine and it' still stuck firmly up there. We've had some really hot and humid weather and a few thunderstorms too. I received a plastic bracket I'm ready to use, but I'm leaving well enough alone for now. :-)
Couple years later mine is getting a beating. I notice the color has a pink tint to it now. See if it survives this winter.
Thanks helpful. Seems a simple lexan box would help your external install.
they have junction boxes with clear faceplates that would work well too.
So, have you had any water/moisture problems in the several months you have had it up there? Getting ready to buy some and would love an update. Also, in this July heat wave, have you had any problems with it getting too hot to work?
I like his DGAF attitoooood
Nice video, I wish Wyze supports 5GHz wifi
Did you check to see if there were wires behind the board where you drilled? If so were the wires hot? Or did you turn off the circuit breaker?
12/19 How has this cam been working for you? Have you had issue with it's functioning...like stopped playing back recorded motion. Or did not record a whole day....? or other issues?
The "big port" is USB to daisy chain and power another cam... 👍
Where did Dave Dugdale go??? Please come back 🙏
Good Job.. great video.. gave me lots of idea to do mine.
Hey Dave, how is it holding up? :) I just bought a Wyze Cam yesterday and saw this.
Love my Waze Cams!
Great video. Great camera
Not sure if you did a follow up video after an year for the wyze cam outdoor installation. Is it holding up well?
Nice job, BTW the hosing is only like $10 should it come to it. let us know how it goes
If you mount the bracket on the wall and it could have been right side up instead of upside down keeping the water out.
What state do you live in and how is it holding up so far? I live in Florida and I am wondering if the heat and rain will damage the camera.
HI Dave - nice video. Don't let all these wussies get you down. Drill away my friend!
1:58 Something real unnerving listening to a guy with powerdrill laughing menacingly like that.😂
while drilling with that wrist breaker drill into peg board right above a two pole electrical switch mind you....CRAZZZYY LAUGH...HAHAHAHAHA
@@derekholman1154 evidently he's not the sharpest tool in the box.
How cold was your winter and how did it do in that wearher??
a bit of Duct Tape wont hurt for protection.
