My good friend and colleague, Brian Ayres, played sax in GS & The Power. It was so great seeing him play and dance. After his stint, he became a show producer at Deerhurst, including hiring Eileen Twain (later named Shania) for the show. He came to Las Vegas circa 1995 and worked producing corporate events. I worked with him there for 9 years until he retired at 60, and unfortunately passed away within 8 months. He told great stories of his days in Canada with Grant, etc.
I have seen Grant a few times over the years solo and sharing the stage with George Oliver in Oshawa but the first time was mid seventies in a night club setting, the Pinnacle Room at the Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto. He knocked my socks off, I had to go back the second night as I had never seen a showman like Grant before.
Love Grant Smith! My husband was the drummer in The Five Furys and they played the same circuit ..often on their breaks they would slip across the street to a club where Grant was playing to catch a set ...he told me some funny stories ...like Grant hanging from the stage rafters by his shoes but they slowly slipped as did Grant right to the floor ...wonder if he remembers this lol
