On the subject of working with ancestors who you didn't get along with: I know someone whose dead father was abusive. Whenever his mother gets sick, he calls on his father to protect her, saying that his father owes her protection after what he put her through. Idk if that's the "proper" way to do things, but it works!
On the subject of bringing an offering: It reminds me of my childhood - you never went to visit (family, friends, elders) without bringing a gift. Usually that was like a coffee cake, or a bottle of wine, or a dish, or at least some flowers. That concept of hospitality, and that even if your host has nothing, your presence isn't a burden is a good thing to remember in any age or any relationship.
Hello from South Africa. I am very impressed with the information that you teach. For a young woman your knowledge and teachings is unbelievable. Blessings
I know very well who my ancestors are - I even have a genealogy book on them! It took my great grandmother 35 years to complete it. I've left my ancestors alone for the most part but once every Halloween I'll pay my respects. 🙏☠️🖤
A friend and I that were talking about this yesterday, were having a debate on whether or not anybody that wasn’t blood related, belong on an ancestor altar. While, I do believe that there are some hard and fast rules with our magic and rituals and spell crafting and technique, etc., I also feel like this is one issue where it truly is up to the practitioner or even just the person creating the altar, as a sacred space. I have a friend, who, after my own brother died, was as close to me, as my own brother was, and I loved him like one. He was protective, and kind to me in life, and I know that in Spirit, he still watches over me and does what he can … it felt wrong to leave him off of an altar, where I go to honor and connect and seek protection or guidance, of those that have gone before me. But, like I said, I’m of the mindset sometimes rules need to be respected (ie waking up roots when you’re working conjure, not every ingredient can be substituted and it is not just “your intention “ So hearing you affirm, that you also don’t believe that it’s a place just for blood relatives , really is a timely message for me to get. I’m going to share this with the friend that I was discussing it with. Thanks again! you’re a lovely soul❤
I am so glad you resonated with this! The conversation of whether or not ancestors are biological or not is always a controversial topic. People view this so differently... At times, I feel like my soul is so much more important than my physical body. And so, people that I resonate with on a deep soul level are going to give me more of that "ancestral" feeling than some of my biological ancestors whom I feel distant from. It really does depend on the practitioner!
The ancestral course I did, likened the ancestors to yes your own lineage but also everyone that you have grown up with and known in life, has had some meaning to you. They went on to talk about how even if you've read a book that inspired you, the author could be considered as the same. I think it's lovely you included them, and the only exception anyway would be if you were creating a space for your lineage alone.
Thank you Ivy I got so much out of this discussion. I especially enjoyed learning about archetypal ancestors, and learning about your practices. I do my best to practice veneration weekly and ask some of my biological ancestors to assist me in spells and healing sessions, so I find your practices insightful, beautiful, and relatable. I am so incredibly grateful that you created this channel, you inspire me so much.

Having done a lot of genealogical research decades ago, I can think of several individuals in my family history I would like to get to know and work with. As a 60+ woman of Celtic heritage, I’ve been feeling a call to get more familiar with the spiritual traditions of those ancestors. And since witchcraft is intricately woven throughout Celtic roots, naturally I’ve been gradually lead to an awakening of my own Inner Witch. I really enjoy your channel and your content, please excuse the redundancy. Do you work one-on-one with clients?

But in my experience, there are a lot less of them than you'd think. I remember being a beginner and everyone fear-mongering me into feeling like some trickster spirit is always going to try to mess with me. When in reality... I think I've maybe encountered 1 trickster spirit in 15 years? It's good to be safe of course, but working with ancestors is a lot more safe than one would think ❤️
@@IvyTheOccultist I suppose I have never done ancestor work so it isn't like I'm speaking from experience. I also have fed the fear monster in this moment, I should really stop fearing the monsters under my bed and in my closet and invite them out for tea or something.
@@jessecreegan9451 haha yes!! Spirit work is not NEARLY as scary as everyone makes it out to be. As long as you know how to banish something (in the 1% chance you actually need to banish something) then you're good! I have never had to banish a spirit in all the workings I have done over the years. The 1 trickster spirit I encountered was just more of an annoyance than anything... A spirit that just wanted to play and be mischievous. But after cleansing, the problem was solved... No banishment needed. And by talking to other practitioners, it seems their experiences are very similar. There is so much fear mongering - I hope you get to try it soon! 🤗❤️
@@IvyTheOccultist I suppose a can compare this to when I started working with the fae. I got told don't take gifts from them, don't tell them your name, don't do this don't do that. Then I finally said skip the rules, I will pay the consequences later, but I want to know now. And I found that most of the fae are happy, playful and inquisitive. Most of these ones didn't want the evil ones around. And when I say evil it was just at best pranksters at worst just rude. None of them are out to kill you or anything, but the fear mongering is absolutely real.

I'm so glad you agree with non-biological ancestors! Not everyone does, and that's okay. But I think it's important to talk about regardless. 😊 Yes, there are trickster spirits out there for sure!
@@jessecreegan9451 yes!!!!!!! 1,000%!!!! 🙏
Thanks!
Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me! ❤️😊🙏
I dig the Segway song!
Haha I thought it fit the topic well 😆 Glad you dig it!
@@IvyTheOccultist is it royalty free RUclips music or something you purchased?
Either way it’s a banger. I think it’s telling me to make contact with Mother Ayahuasca, just saying
@@subspeciez HAHA! It's just royalty-free music on RUclips. And it is DEFINITELY telling you to take a little trip with Mama Serpent. 😆
