Che donna deliziosa, ammirabile questa Verrett! "Abbastanza, per adesso io dico abbastanza". Chapeau.
Come mai doppo tanti anni la Verrett ancora non sapeva proprio parlare italiano come altri stranieri... Bravissima tuttavia!

did in your record sing faggiono the carmen?
She wasn't singing particularly well during this period, especially the Mezzo roles that required her middle voice which had weakened considerably. The knowledgable and impassioned loggione at La Scala could hear that she wasn't singing at her best, which for them was unacceptable for an opening night. She also had a very difficult time with the concept of the producer Pierro Faggioni, which was very much publicised in the Italian press. This would have impaired her ability to act or even care about the production. This certainly wasn't a peak in her career sadly.
La Verrett quella sera era raffreddata e lo si sente subito dall'attacco dell'entrata. Lo si vede anche durante l'intervista che starnuta e tossisce. Che poi la Sig.ra Simionato dica che lei aveva cantato con 39 di febbre non é carino, oltre alle critiche alla regia decisamente inutili.
Non credo che la Simionato lo dicesse per cattiveria.
Giulietta Simionato ha iniziato dicendo che lei é stata la Carmen del passato e, proprio per tale ragione, stava ricordando cosa é avvenuto durante quella famosa Carmen in francese, diretta da von Karajan. Tutto qui. Le critiche alla regia, secondo me, sono più che giustificate. L'intervistatore, invece, é davvero insopportabile.
Ru is the only convincing Escamillo, both vocally and in his amazing acting.
