I don’t think we have had this camera angle:perspective before, it is really great to see her foot action more clearly interacting with her hands in one frame.
YOYOKA is clearly now in a very short list of top drummers in the world. Her solo performances are powerful, passionate and entertaining.
Scary thinking how great she'll be in her twenties.
Also note fans, I think this is the first time YOYOKA has removed her shoes outside the house/home studio!!!
yoyoka will hands down be/already is one of the best drummers to ever exist
Undoubtedly!
Sin duda alguna
0:27 You can barely see Yoyoka's left hand in this video, but she plays traditional grip for a minute or so, trying out some jazz chops. And she sounds fabulous!!💛💙❤
ruclips.net/video/ZF38uj2fMIc/видео.html you can see her traditional grip at here.
Yes I noticed that as well.
So much Bonham in her style and particularly in this solo.
Love the camera angle. I sure hope there were some aspiring drummers in the audience because this was magnificent. 🎉
Another spectacular solo from Yoyo, I now believe that we can talk about Yoyoka groove without identifying it with anyone other than herself.
You are correct! I think I could now identify a YOYOKA solo/riff etc. with sound only
What a beautifull solo, Yoyoka. Well done!!
Yes! Well put
Beyond Virtuoso! Virtuoso, is tooo..
complicated a word - for describing
the ease with which Yoyoka plays. :-)
Yoyoka always plays with
heart and gutso [Sic]! 👍🏼
She can certainly play with
Miles and miles - on her own
terms🥁! :-)
Part of Yoyoka's wonderful sound is her very simple 4 piece kit. Sometimes simple is best, and in this case It's just right, and like so many say, incredible.
Yes, hurray for the Magic Socks! Great sound, too, as usual. Videos of gigs like this are going to get Yoyoka noticed really quickly in LA.
Absolutely outstanding!! YOYOKA is a phenomenal drummer. I don’t mean just because of her age, just a phenomenal drummer. What a beautiful mix of two stroke and three stroke rolls and the use of contrapuntal patterns. The use of triplets at different parts of the solo gave it a jazz feel. 🌹🌹
YOYOKA & Aki, thank you for posting this and coming to John Muir. I have only seen little snippets so far, but this solo is incredible. As Rob-Yule mentioned, there's a nice jazz feel to parts. Your cymbal work and confidence on the drums is wonderful. And I LOVE the awesome reception from the kids. You have made an impact on our school. Thank you! P.S. I would love to hear you play King Crimson's "Indiscipline" with live musicians someday, as you need such confidence in yourself and your fellow bandmates.
Very cool! I think the Soma family are bringing some great vibes to Southern California, and those kids felt it.
And yes, some Discipline-era King Crimson is a very good idea👍
Indiscipline would be amazing! Someone get Adrian Belew on the phone! He still tours like crazy with at least 3 bands - gotta be coming through LA pretty often I imagine. Tony Levin is busy with the Peter Gabriel tour atm.
I always impressed by the way you mix up your rhythm. Never just the same beat but constantly change the flow of your creation. This keeps us the listener never knowing where your journey will go. From listening to you live, wow your drums are really laud! Thank you yoyo!
She on a professional level well beyond a middle school student. Fantastic.
YOYOKA Is phenomenal!🫵🏽
One of my top 5 favorite drum solos of all time.
THE HAMMER IS IN THE BUILDING AND TRYING TO DESTROY IT, BRAVO PROF.
Great job, not sure how many middle schoolers will appreciate just how great this was.
True, but the audience response was quite excellent!
this is what i live for. this is made of awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
she is incredible, her solos remind me of watching fireworks, they start slow...and build to the finale..at her age to create that anticipation...
Just excellent and I love the camera angle. Some of those kids will remember that forever.
I think this is the most inventive solo I have heard from YOYOKA. We sre forever saying NEXT LEVEL in relation to the Hokkaido Hammer and her growth as a player. Deep and wide. Deeper into nuance and style. Wider into different genre's like jazz. Love the one handed choke on the cymbal a la Sugarfoot Moffat! Love the effortless shift from matched grip to traditional grip and back again. Absolutely stellar footwork and high hat work. Like Rob Yule said shades of Joe Morello's Take 5 performance. Next level here on everything she played. Most cohesive improvised solo to date. Not since her work with Ryunsuki Yamaguchi have I been so impressed, entertained and delighted by a YOYOKA improve!
The metal is strong with this one.
Love the smaller jazz kit! This gal has CHOPS!!!
Yoyoka you are my favorite drummer 🐰🥁🐰🥁🐰
Living legend
Yaaaaayyy Yoyoka! I always love to see and hear Yoyoka! Her emerging creative genius on the drums is so exciting! Her modulation, transition, tempo, timing and control is amazing! I love Yoyoka more! She's the best! ❤
Amazing!!! Also I just watched your documentary on NHK which was really cool 😎
If you haven't already you need to watch Wave Potter's documentary on YOYOKA : ruclips.net/video/ONY0qUWR5pQ/видео.html
I'm always Amazed with You Girl!! Your growing up in front of Us, And being more Awesome all the time. Love U girl!
Yay! Improvised drum solo by Yoyoka! 🎵🥁🎵🤩
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
You do so many covers for your fans, so it's nice to see you can come up with your own music improvisationally. I also love that you demonstrated a variety of genres for the students. Very nice work.
Amazing! That solo had something for everyone.
NICE!
Without (the mass) of the shoes she can move her feet faster.
Very tasteful impro! Thank you YOYOKA.
Thanks Yoyoka !!!! ❤😊
There is a bit of ‘Take Five’ feel near the beginning
Yes it was! Thought so myself!
Excellent.😎
I've listened to her since way back. Her jazz skills are now practically other worldly, not to mention her current level of technical superiority.
Yoyoka: Your biggest "fans" are the children. Thank the gods....and also as usual, I Thank your parents. ❤❤
FANTASTIC!!!❤ I AM INSPIRED!😎🤘
Amazing drum work!!! 👍👍👍👏👏👏👌👌👌
incredible job Yoyoka!
It's insane to think that she's still only in middle school. I wonder how many of her peers realize just how uniquely talented and special YOYOKA is. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is what greatness looks and sounds like.
GREAT STUFF YOYOKA ✔️💯
I love that she has a lot of Bonham feel.
Awesome talent wake up music industry unbelievable solo
You played at my school and it was the craziest thing, thx for coming!
excellent as always. i like it how you dont use double bass all the time but make lot of variety with styles n sounds.
Astounding!🥁🥁
Hello from the JMMS tech crew 😉 -- Loved your performances at our school! ここにきてくれてありがとう~!(pardon my lack of kanji, I am still a new 日本語学習者)
Nice!
What a great gifted talent!
Nice groove. 🥁
Great playing 🥁🔥👍
what a beast! amazing
I find many drum solos boring, but this one didn't bore me.
This was so good. Great job
I think you and El Estepario should have a drum battle!
They should!😅
El Estepario, the one and only!!!
Out of this world performer!
Makes my day every day!😊
🥰
I thought I heard a little a The Professor inspired snare work in there. ❤❤❤. Awesome solo !
Damn that child is spectacular!
Great, great, great....
I teared up
👍❣️
Some dynamite 🧨 here 💪❤️
If Miles were alive, I'm sure he would have found her.

I had the hardest time with this at that age, being alone, the only source of structure me, no matter what chops or how good, I was a nervous wreck about how to compose something that would sound musical and hold their attention. She doesn't seem unsure of anything, and why should she? There's grown men I know thatve played decades that can't play doubles that smoothly.
Hmm. I just googled John Muir Middle School, and there are a bunch of them, along with John Muir Elementary Schools (one of which I attended for a year back in the day). I assume this is the middle school in Los Angeles.
I also wondered the same - and I hoe she is at the John Muir middle school in Burbank. The LA John Muir middle school has some pretty terrible stats. 1/3 of the students are chonically absent, and only 8% test as proficient in math, far below the state average. The John Muir middle school in Burbank is an above average school, ranked in the top 20% of all California public middle schools.
There's a John Muir Middle School in San Leandro, East Bay Alameda county.
But I believe she's living in Los Angeles now.
@@TheRoafer She's been playing at the Whisky a Go Go in LA recently, so yes, that's where she lives now.
Superstar!
Not Jamie, but Jon. Nearly such an appropriate name. [Jamie Muir drummed on Larks' tongues in aspic by King Crimson!] These textures, she's playing here, are insane.
OMG!!
After this performance all the kids rushed to sign up for band class.
Is she doing this in socks? This is off the charts!
In all her old videos she always played in socks. I think she is more comfortable with that. But I noticed at a lot of her recent gigs she is wearing shoes.
Wow.
Imagine going to your average Middle School Talent Show, and this shows up.
😎👍👍
Are you sure you didn't add on the screams at the end?
The screams were screams of relief the drums felt when Yoyoka was done beating the crap out of them.😂
What...did you get redirected from TikTok?
I am having a hard time visualizing how good she will be at age 30. 16 years from now.
I hope you’re listening to a lot of Elvin Jones if you’re aspiring to be a great jazz drummer, Yoyoka.
Elvin Jones would be very impressed
Great job!!! Take your socks OFF, and perform BAREFOOT from now on. You will get better traction, it will be healthier, and you will be more comfortable. I go BAREFOOT ALL the time. I am a BAREFOOTER. Use the foot camera when you perform BAREFOOT from now on.
Fantastically fraught
Joh. Muir in San Diego?
LA
