The problem with D3's stats compared to D4 is that D3's stats were simplistic, and D4's stat interactions are not explicitly explained to the player.
It's braindead in D3 to only require building 5 stats (crit, crit dmg, cdr, attack speed, resists). Plus only running an armor set (resolved slightly with that legendary gem that multiplied out legendary affixes if that's all one wore).
However, it does feel boring to see all these different stats in D4 that seem like they don't matter, until you realize that the damage bucket types all multiply against each other for massive damage. The stats are underwhelming for sure, until you realize that stacking a bunch of different stats your character uses actually emboldens them, and allows for a wider variety of build nuance.
But yeah, it sucks that, because D4 doesn't explicitly explain stat interactions, it all just looks like a vast mess of random stats.

My take is the earn/spend function is basically a replacement of mana pools spending back in D1/D2. Take a barb in D2, it was all about spamming pots or building items around mana back per hit then running WW (or throw or shout). When you ran out of your mana you reverted back to say double swing until you found a pot, moved one from inventory or hit mobs to earn back your +2 mana per hit.
Same concept use the resource pool then wait for it to come back, but it feels really average in d4 where as D2 is just felt..... Fine, slow sure but fine because as you leveled up, the amount of down time reduced, as you geared up it kept reducing and that felt bloody GOOOOOD.

    Blizzard, if you're listening:
There should be a gem tab on the character
There should be more space in the chest (the artificial limitation is like nvidia only giving you 8GB of ram in 2023)
I agree that there should be a key, like Alt, to show the detailed view of an item
I fully agree that, as a casual player, if they wipe my character and make me play through everything again that's going to make me look interest.
In the beginning I was very confused about whether certain effects apply to me. As a Frost Sorceress do I ever apply Stun? I don't think so.
I don't think I ever apply Slowed. Chilled, frozen, vulnerable, anything outside of that I never apply.
    That should be much clearer.
(there were some more I think that I missed)

It'd be amazing to have Runes as something "rare / super rare" and u get rly excited when a Rune finally drop working towards some amazing and game changing Runewords.
I'm not sure how Runewords should work with the different Item tiers (Sacred, Ancestral etc.).. Imo. they should get completely rid of item tiers in Diablo 4, and just do items like in Diablo 2 where an unique item simply can roll good or bad (defense forexample), as well as level requirement.

If the “complicated crowd control” system can be summed up as “any type of crowd control is crowd control” then it’s not complicated. If for some reason a player thinks certain types of crowd control don’t count as crowd control, that’s on them. It’s literally called crowd control, if it’s crowd control, then it’s crowd control.

I struggled with understanding what Crowd Control was too. I found if you mouse over the tooltip in the Materials and Stats tab it tells you (I think - it's somewhere in here anyway). It's basically any movement impairment. Chill, Frozen, Slow, Stun -- it's all of them.

  • @CHEF2077

even a 1% slow is crowd control.

I like the skill tree, I think a bit more depth would’ve been nice for all the hardcore players, while the current system still benefits casual/hardcore players pretty equally. I haven’t found anything I find an issue. I thought it would be unplayable release day, it played fine. Early access worked for me, the game itself has content, a good story, great class selection and in general, feels like a perfect sequel to the Diablo games we love. The scaling of party members is nice too, it doesn’t matter if your friend is level 20, and you’re 50+. The enemies scale and each member will feel useful to a *certain* degree. The scaling of solo play ramps up around the end of the second act, it kinda threw me for a loop but simple study of the skill tree/ respec and it was easy again. I played as Necromancer, and think the game is absolutely worth every penny so far, but I’ll have to wait and see what the battle pass system looks like, and how the seasonal content goes. Base game definitely worth it if you’re a Diablo fan.

Get to level 40-50 before worrying about the rarer crafting stuff.
Eventually you'll be finding legendary items that you either don't need or have garbage stats.. destroying those at a blacksmith will net you the rare materials.
After that the even rarer materials become rewards from end game content.
Once you play around with it, it becomes second nature.

I get that it's good and fun in the end game, but the first 20 hours have simply not been fun, I have to do all of the cheese combos with stuff like using ravens just for crit chance and popping poison creeper just because it's ridiculously good etc in order to simply do the content with shapeshifter build, meanwhile with both sorcerer and necromancer I can just do whatever and it'll be fine.
I'll go back to just level up a druid later when I've got maxed out gems or something to make it way faster, but for now I'm just done with the class.

Yeah, I really don't see how they pull off seasons. If they just "give" renown, based on the "max renown" farmed on the account, then D4 just turns into D3, with no substance...create char, power level up, farm highest tier dungeons. It loses the world exploration factor, that they have really gone after. And, if they require players to re-farm everything every season, then they'll lose a huge chunk of the player base, within the first 2 seasons.

Thing is.. the MAJORITY of people do not have time to get to those high levels fast. I'm level 55 and I am only that level because I happened to have a free weekend from commitments and work + kids. I get maybe an hour or two every day to chill out. It's just been released and I am sure there will be more end game things in future. More of a PVP aspect should be there, like battlegrounds on WoW... of some sort. Or dungeon finder. But other than that. its all good.
