- Let the cottage renovation begin! Well, almost. First, we're scratching the surface of our to-do list for the kitchen, living and dining rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, and porch, and while most cottage owners are closing for winter, Alex and Construction Master Kris are setting up camp on the island where they'll be living as they renovate. We're getting ready to rip out, repaint and reinvigorate this 4,000+ square foot island property and that means we've got our work cut out for us. Plus, Alex's BIG idea is revealed!

That was a whole lot of green. Back in the old days, they used a light green, that looked like it was mixed with cream and our cottage had that green on cupboards and cream walls with cherry wood casings and floor. If you've gone past the lighthouse, you probably went by our island. We could see the lighthouse from the side porch. The island that you have to pass around to get out front was owned by the Oldfields, as you pass to the left was the Bellevue Hotel and Post Office, on the the right beside the lighthouse was Taylor's Marina. Nairs Inlet, the other side of the lighthouse and down a bit, is very pretty. If you're interested in any of the area's history, Pointe to the East is an interesting documentary. Can't wait to see what you do to the place.

OMG!!! The green shower curtain with the colorful fish in the master bathroom is the same one I had back in the 90's!!! I remember that bathroom vividly. I painted the walls the same fuschia pink as one of the fish. Those were the days. My current bathroom is much more sedate with tones of gray, cream and yellow.

My husband and I are literally building our cottage/home in Chester NS while we live in it. We are surrounded by islands, but we are on the mainland. Can't wait for the updates each week.

I would love to know how much money they get for some of these more unusual pieces of furniture they are getting rid of. I am guessing they are done by specialist furniture/lighting people. Once sarah has finished with this it is going to be stunning, the views are to die for and the location is something special.
We always try to find the right buyer so all pieces find a good home. I'm so glad you're loving the series so far! :-)
What an amazing cottage! Are you renovating this to re-sell, make it an income property or move into this one instead of your current cottage? Great adventure no matter what your plans are.
Excited for that new kitchen location. Should be no surprise it's rotted to filth; how long has that sucker been there?
Curious what you do with the stuff left behind that you have no intention of using; dump it, donate it, find what's good and repurpose it? (Sconces, Wall decor, dishes, etc.
It depends on the item, but we donate, consign or find good homes for pieces we won't be using. :-)

Is Georgian Bay like the Hamptons of Ontario?
Better! There is a magic in Georgian Bay. The light is different. The colours of the granite islands, against the sky and lakes, are amazing. It looks great on video, but really doesn't do it justice. If you like Sarah's "go to" colour palette - you will definitely love it! If you haven't been... do yourself a favour... it's not to be missed. GO! But not in June... June is for the insects not the tourists. 😎
