❤️❤️❤️I’m truly amazed at how Curaçao, Aruba & Bonaire are the “same place, same people” as where I’m from, Guinea-Bissau 🇬🇼 🇬🇼🇬🇼. Now, I wanna visit these beautiful islands, mainly Curaçao 🇨🇼.
I would like to visit Guinea-Bissau as well. It's beautiful to see how we're connected. Did you want to learn more Papiamentu as well?
@@SheediaJansen I’d love to however, I feel like I already know a lot😀
@@foroyah4042 makes sense. I did create a course that's beginner friendly but also for those that are a bit more advanced. You can check out what's in it and see if it's a good fit 👉🏽 learn.papiamentucourse.com
I'm Cape Verdean and this is very similar to Cape Verdean Creole my native tongue... I found this very intriguing but peculiar at the same time lol btw thx for the shout out in the beginning of the video... its almost like we're distant "language cousins" lol... very educational video thx again!

Omg so similar with my language (cape Verde)
Love it.

+Lincolina Beauty OMG! "Kontentu di mira algu positivo" is very similar with portuguese! "Contente de ver algo positivo"
Raphael Duarte y muy similiar al español tambien "contento de mirar algo positivo" o "contento de ver algo positivo"
An contenti di odja algo positivo. That's how we say that in caboverde. We could use Mira instead of odja. But it's less common

Excited to show my new friend from Curacao the words I've learned from your videos! Thanks! I noticed some words that we use in one of our South African languages called Afrikaans, as it also has a lot of Dutch influence. Dankie! (Thank you in Afrikaans) :)
Dushi Video..! Saludos de Suecia..! :)
Thank you! Did you want to learn more Papiamentu?
I want more !!!!
Kon ta bai ku bo, Sheedia?
Je mag nog meer van die Papiamentu-taalvideo's maken! Dit is het eerste gesproken Papiamentu dat ik hoor; hiervoor waren het meestal liedjes zoals van ERA, Tumba-stijl. Door mijn Spaanse background herken ik wel ontzettend veel woorden.
Kumindamentu!
i would like for you to do aanother video teaching us papiamento basic
Been getting some requests for that. I will consider making one soon.
A big hug from Cape Verde to ABC Islands!
Xandu di Canda A big hug from Curacao 💖💖💖
Papiamento came from the Cape Verde Islands. It is scientifically (linguistically) proved.
no
Its not
Sheedia, that was great. Thanks. I'll be visiting your island in June, and I'll definitely try some of the lingo!

I like it
There has to be some reason historically why cape verdean creole and papiamento are like sinlings. I understand everything
Some of our ancestors are from Cape Verde (Santiago)
@@TheBestOfMaya07 Papiamento is a mix of Spanish, portuguese, and others languajes...

Very nice video! I was a teenager when I discovered Papiamentu and I could understand almost everything because I could recognize Portuguese, English and Spanish based words in it.
By the way, I heard Papiamentu is kind of a tonal language. Is this for real?
Thanks!
Yes
I want o learn moro about papiamento
Awesome. I have just created a course where you can learn Papiamentu online at your own pace >> learn.papiamentucourse.com
Do you know where I can find a Papiamento tutor?
I'm not a tutor, but I did create an online Papiamentu course. That might help. Find out more here: learn.papiamentucourse.com
how can I say “Curaçao stole my heart” ??
Btw, I really love Papiamento, I wish you did more of those videos teaching it!!
Korsou a horta mi kurason💙💛🤍. But it's Papiamentu, not papiamento.
How do you say drunk trouble maker?
Hi Sheedia,
Your videos are very insightful!
I'm going to Curacao soon as a student, any suggestions for good in-city (willemstad) study locations? Thanks :)
Yes. The library and Starbucks. Go to the Starbucks inside Renaissance on the second floor. Not a lot of people know about it. You can also study outside at the various restaurants. Iguana cafe has the best view and decent drinks but the food is not very tasty 😉
Thanks so much! :D
why is this language so similar to capeverde?
Apparently some of the slaves that were transported by the Dutch came from that area.
ami tambe kre bai curacao sempri nfladu ma curacao cu cabo verde e um so povo e munti alguem ca conxi
if u dont understand all what ive said just replay i would like to have a chat with curacao people

Hi I understand a little bit, but what does nfladu, munti and conxi mean?
rastaman moreir hi i dont understand
im from Curacao
@@TheBestOfMaya07 : Whenever you speak to Capeverdeans and they say words you don't understand just ask them to use another word.
In Cabo-Verde there's much disagreement regarding spelling but it is truly more of a political or ideological nature, '. Also, each of the nine populated islands has its own accent and version and that makes it even more impossible for there to be a unified written capeverdean Creole. And, that's another reason why Portuguese must continue to be the official language.
Of course we all understand each other. Were I to spell those words you claim to not understand,, you'd have less problem understanding them. instead of "nflado" I'd write " mim flado' (from the Portuguese word 'falado") I could even skip 'mim ' and just say 'flado' or "frado". which means ' it is said'.
'conxi" comes from the Portuguese verb "conhecer", to know" which conjugated in that context would be ' conhece'. So, I would not have written it the way Rastamam wrote it. I"d write 'conche', in order to be true to its real linguistic root or origin. "monti' means' monte' in Portuguese which literally means ' mountain' or' elevation'. So, in this context it means 'elevated' or' lots of'; To give the impression of a lot of something, in this case , people, or 'alguem'
Also, contrary to what many people say, 99.99% of the capeverdeans words come from Portuguese. So, "Criolo", as it is called in Cabo_Verde, is a 'africanized' Latin dialect .
How about the 4 letter words honey.
We wanna learn those too.
Si bu papia cu dgente di Cabo-Verde qui bu ca entende, frase pa usa oto palavra. Ta qui mim ta papia cu dgente di Curacao qui mim ca ta entende mi tambe an ta frase pa ese papia mas dibagar o pa ese usa oto palavra
Can you translate this part? " mi tambe an ta frase pa ese papia mas dibagar o pa ese usa oto palavra". I understood the rest.
@@SheediaJansen translation, "I also tell them to speak slower or to use another word" . "Frase" is ''fra"= to tell , from portuguese ''falar' . In some islands 'fla' plus 'ese' =they, from portuguese 'eles'.
99.99% of capeverdeans words derive from or are of portuguese origin. And, at that, from archaic portuguese, as it was spoken in the or up to the XV and XVI centuries. The portuguese arrived in Cabo-Verde aka Cape-Verde, in 1460 AD.
And of course 'frase' also means 'phrase'. 😂 Depending on the context. That ambiguity can or could actually be mitigated if we were to use an apostrophe between 'fra' (or 'fla') and 'ese' or 'aese', when meaning 'to tell them'; So that it would be written as 'fr'ase' or 'fl'ase". (In the latter case perhaps unnecessary)
I'm of the firm belief that the written capeverdean language should always indicate when words are compiled into a single word. To avoid confusion or trivialities, which is actuality rare.
Also the spelling of capeverdean words should always reflect its roots, which is overwhelmingly in the portuguese language. That also means that I personally oppose, using the letter "K" in the written capeverdean language; because, such letter doesn't exist in Portuguese. Of course we learn and should learn about it because there are exceptions and it is useful when writing foreign names, etc.
Anyhow, there have been some unsuccessful attempts, by mostly demagogues and incompetent and ignorant linguists, to formalize or to standardize the written caverdean language . Such attempts have also been futile because for one each island has its own accent. And, also because the process is totally politicized.
People like myself that actually know a thing or two about this subject have long been silenced.
In some respects, I actually don't mind the lack of any conventional standard regarding our written language. For one, it allows more freedom. 😂 That said, one must take into consideration that any ambiguity in the meaning or interpretation of a written letter is the author's fault . 😂
Ps. Some of my recommendations or concerns also can be applied to the written form of Papiamentu.
@@SheediaJansen pa ese= for them. That could also be contracted and spelled 'pese'. The s sounds like z. Which is consistent with portuguese phonetics; as the letter S between two vowels always sounds like a Z.
In most or at least many instances 'am' or 'an' which means 'me' or ' I' can be replaced by 'mi' or 'mim' . 'am' sounds like 'ã '. it's a nasal sound' Like in the word 'coraçam' , which probably could or should be spelled 'coraçã'. (Threre are no rules in criolo. We are unruly. Lol)
In some islands you may hear ' 'coraçon'. you say Curaçao. In Brazil the popular name João is beginning to sound like Joao. 😂
I need some papiamento for a tv show. Thanking you in advance...have you seen him? Where does he live? Is he married? He's been arrested before. He doesn't own a car. He's been in trouble before. He's not from here. Is she living with someone? He lives with his girlfriend.
Wanneer zeg je mi "ta" bai en of mi "ke" bai ?
"Mi ta bai" means "I am going to""Mi ke bai" means "I want to go to"
So the difference is whether you are going to go somewhere or you just want to go. Hope that explains it.
Mi stima Kursóu hopi! (Please correct my grammar 😊)
Mi stima Kòrsou hopi. That would be the correct spelling
