@@nedneedlemeyer3615 Yeah, playing16 years with even below average results will do that. He had a top 10 passer rating once in 16 years. He was below the NFL average 9 times. He was 3.8 or less over the NFL average in 5 of the other 7 times. So, in 16 years, he had 2 years that were somewhat over the average. I don't see in what universe that makes a QB great. In 2018, Eli's last full year, I did a comparison between Eli and Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers and they were al 6th, 7th, and 8th all time. Only BR needed 807 FEWER attempts to have more yards and more TDs than Eli. That's almost 2 fewer seasons worth of attempts to have more than Eli. PR needed 972 fewer attempts to have more TDs and slightly fewer yards. And that's basically Eli's career. His stat to make the most top 10 each season? Attempts. Not yards. Not completion percentage. Not yards/attempt. Not TDs. Not TD percentage. Just attempts. That alone shouldspeak volumes.
Eli in the regular season- choke artist Eli in the post season- clutch as hell Peyton in the regular season- unstoppable Peyton in the post season- choke artist
@DVJFan That is absolutely true. The perfect QB would be like Manning in the reg season, like Brady in the postseason and like Montana in the SB (2.75 TD per game, 0 INTs)
Actually Eli didn't win a playoff game except in 07 and 11. So with exception of those 2 one month stretches hes considered a choke artist even in the playoffs
As a 49er fan, I saw this game and the Giants run defense won this game for them because they knew if they stopped the run Favre was going to eventually make a mistake passing the ball knowing his reputation as a gunslinger. Great game overall by both squads. One of the best games I've ever seen. Big ups to the Giants.
Thanks for the classy attitude. The Giants and the 49ers have had some proper brutal scraps over the years but I never disliked SF. Their uniform colors are sweet and they always had great defense. Ronnie Lott is the epitome of a serious man to be treated with respect.
The Giants have always upsets teams in games like beating Joe Montana and the 49ers 1990 NFC Championship game, beating the Bills in the Superbowl, Beating Brett Favre and the Packers in this NFC Championship game, beating the Patriots in the Superbowl when the Patriots was 18-0, Beating the 49ers in the NFC championship again in 2011 and beating the Patriots again in the superbowl.
Desmond Anderson many people had the Giants beating the niners in the NFC championship game though. Williams doesn't fumble and we're having a different convo. But other than that yeah you're right
In the 90's the 49ers games keep getting tighter till they beat them. They played a great team in the bills that game should have never been close but they played a great game.
I'll never forget this night. It was so cold, me and my fiance decided to stay close to home and watch at a local bar in Mt Horeb, WI. We should have stayed home. The Giants running killed us. We were lucky to even get that chance at the end. This was a classic Favre game.
I love Al Harris. I'll never forget how good he was for us for so long (especially the walkoff TD on Hasselbeck after "We want the ball and we're gonna score"), but he got absolutely dominated in this game by Burress and the Packers should have given him more help instead of being so stubborn about the man-to-man bump-and-run scheme.
Al Harris was a joke. Give me a break, hasselbeck threw him a gift wrapped peach my highschool principal coulda picked and returned. Harris got lit up time and time again. If it wasn’t for that one pick six against the Seahawks nobody would even talk about that bum. He was a terrible cornerback.
Yup. Favre looked very pedestrian in this game. At one point Favre was on the sideline while the Giants went down the field in a 37 minute drive. Favre looked like a popsicle, he looked frozen like a statue. Very flat.
As a packers fan this game haunts me forever. God damn favre Ryan grant was wide open for a dump off pass right infront of you! We were given every opportunity to be in this game and we still blew it. One hell of a game for the giants fans. Brandon Jacobs or Ahmad Bradshaw set the tone this game by running over al Harris. This game broke my heart especially this is how favre went out as a packer. Regardless tho good game this is a NFL classic coming from the losing end. I bit the bullet and rooted for the Giants to beat the pats this year. That was the best sb finish I ever viewed to this date. This gmen team underlooked they also beat a really good Dallas team on the road as well.
Do you think the Packers would have survived against the 18-0 Pats? The main reason they lost to the Giants was because they had played against each other weeks before and the Giants had an insane blitz defense (that was also reading Brady's play changes from the line of scrimmage). I wanted the packers to win this because I'm certain my Pats would have gone 19-0. Giants were the WORST team they could have faced in SB 42. Cowboys or Packers would have been just fine, plus Brady vs Favre? Now that's a dream matchup that will never be.
@@natebaker4144 Fumble recoveries are totally random. A team that has unusually good fumble recovery for a year will often have a better record than they deserve. Fumbles are big reason why fluke wins and losses happen.

The talk with Eli is always about the Super Bowls over the Patriots but the 2 playoff road wins over Green Bay is significant when talking about him getting into the hof
Eli is not going to the HoF. If you read headlines or ask Eli fans, it was all Eli. If you live in reality, the defense carried the team through both postseasons.
@tomknapp6194 his last 7 years were not good but overall I think the games started streak and the playoffs along with the Manning name gets him in eventually

This wasn't an upset, and it certainly wasn't a surprise. Brett Favre is the king of the 4th quarter Playoff game interception, when the games on the line you can always count on him to deliver that.
This game is such a legacy builder for Eli Manning. This, and really all the game winning drives that season ensured die hard, often hopeless optimism in many fans (myself included)... So many years of thinking "this may be the year he does it again," "we can still come back" etc, because we witnessed him overcome literally everything!
Brett Favre destroyed the Giants in the regular season with 4 TDs. Then in the playoffs, he has 1 TD, Eli scores barely better than the blowout loss and Eli is the hero? Please explain how that works.
@@tomknapp6194 did you watch the game? You probably just look up stats. Nothing was working for NYG on this day except Eli to Plaxico, timing option routes perfectly with precision passes. @@michaelkirschner6009 What did Eli actually do? In 2007, he played the Cowboys, Packers, and Patriots in both regular season and postseason. The Giants defense was destroyed in those 4 games, giving up an average of 38 points, Romo scored 4 TDs twice, Favre also had 4 TDs, and only 1 game was not a double digit loss. Then in the playoffs, Eli averages LESS per game than those blowouts and he's the hero? Not the defense, that handed Romo, Favre, and Brady one of their worst games of the year...... And Eli still barely managed to win. In fact, that's the story of Eli's playoff career. In 5/8 games, he had to rely on pro bowl QBs to absolutely not show up and still win by 4 or less points. 2 of those went to overtime. Eli's combined overtime stats for those 2 games were 3/7, 17 yards, 1 sack for -10 yards, so 7 yards total. And on the "game winning drives" that Eli received credit for, out of 7 snaps, not including the actual FG, Eli was a combined 0/1. Credit for 2 game winning drives for literally doing nothing. Eli was 100% carried by the defense through most of those playoffs. Outside of that, he was below average for 16 years. Those are the facts, and Eli should never be mentioned in the same breath as the HoF except how he should never be in it.
THIS is one of the Greatest Games ever Played...if you like the Giants. I don't know how good this game is for neutrals. There's 4 lead changes. This is an Old School game; Fullbacks on the field most downs; lots of Physical play.
The Pack was overpowered; 2 yards a carry on 14 runs. ONE big bomb to Driver ; 2 missed fieldgoals; a 13 point swing if the Giants weren't sloppy..... but that's what made it great; could the Giants drive the ball fundamentally to make up for the mistakes.

And more
His numbers are at best AVERAGE? He retired top 10 in yards, completions and TDs, just behind Dan Marino in all categories. Average. As any NYer would say, GTFOH!!
Eli in the regular season- choke artist
Eli in the post season- clutch as hell
Peyton in the regular season- unstoppable
Peyton in the post season- choke artist
Steven Cravens Well the choke artist still got 2 rings so he's apparently a great choker.
@DVJFan Sure he sucks, thats why he will be one of the greatest QBs of all time and a HOFer. :)
@DVJFan That is absolutely true. The perfect QB would be like Manning in the reg season, like Brady in the postseason and like Montana in the SB (2.75 TD per game, 0 INTs)
Peyton ruined football for me as an Indy fan. After watching him for 16 years (including with the Broncos) every other QB bores me to tears.
Actually Eli didn't win a playoff game except in 07 and 11. So with exception of those 2 one month stretches hes considered a choke artist even in the playoffs
Had to watch this today to remember how feeling proud to be a Giants fan felt
Bradshaw was one of toughest rbs Ive ever seen, that dude was all grit, was perfect for NY.
Only something Giants fans understand. That's why I love Darius Slayton, he fits that mold. No divas
Bradshaw should’ve started the whole game. Brandon is big but runs scared. Coughin is an idiot
One of the most memorable games of the past 20 years!
What helps me remember it is watching it annually ever since
Yup until the next game. How crazy is that?
You gotta admit, one of the best, most emotional, most fun to watch games of all time

The Giants have always upsets teams in games like beating Joe Montana and the 49ers 1990 NFC Championship game, beating the Bills in the Superbowl, Beating Brett Favre and the Packers in this NFC Championship game, beating the Patriots in the Superbowl when the Patriots was 18-0, Beating the 49ers in the NFC championship again in 2011 and beating the Patriots again in the superbowl.
your absolutely correct. excellent comment
Desmond Anderson many people had the Giants beating the niners in the NFC championship game though. Williams doesn't fumble and we're having a different convo. But other than that yeah you're right
Haters (aka Pats fans) will call it luck.
As a loyal PackersFan I can't help but agree to this fact
In the 90's the 49ers games keep getting tighter till they beat them. They played a great team in the bills that game should have never been close but they played a great game.
"Third Tyne's the Charm."
It was a dream come true for sportswriters everywhere.
Plexico was and still is extremely underrated.
Michael C. Well he did shoot himself in the foot

He was a terrible cornerback.
how appropriate that favre's last throw as a packer is an interception

Worse loss, this one or 2011 divisional?
No excuse to not recover the fumble on the punt

I distinctly remember saying out loud, "Don't drop THE BALL!" just as McQuarters fumbled on the punt return, because he had already fumbled on the interception. Thank God Hixon recovered.
Dude that fumble would’ve been one of the worst plays in NY sports history.
I was 10 at the time of this game. I remember crying my eyes out after the Packers lost.
And Brett Favre's last pass as a Packer was an overtime-interception in the NFC Championship which set up the Giants' game-winning field goal.

@@eamonkelley3811 This is how little you actually know about Eli. If you split his career between 2004-11 and 2012-19 something comes to light:

Best playoff run in SB history based on opponents winning percentage
One of the best, but it had little to do with Eli.
@@tomknapp6194Eli made plays when he needed to. Eli is a HOF.
