after creating my magnum opus with the texture paint tool, i took a long cold shower and scheduled a meeting with a therapist. something hasn't hit me this hard since i ran over that pedestrian in my Honda Civic on September 3rd, 1991. they still haven't caught me LOL!
Great video thanks! Btw you can turn on mirroring in the tools tab you showed for adding in images, at the very bottom of that there is mirroring for the x/y/z plane and this works for adding decals or painting with a brush :)
I know this is gonna probably not be seen as the video is 8 months old, but screw it. When ever I follow these steps but for the F/A-26 the pylons always appear purple and un-editable, if I go into the shading tab and add image to the other parts of the drop-down menus for the craft I can only edit those and not the rest of the plane, any fix? (Yes I did try separating them, it didn't seem to work.)
Very nice tutorial. Got a blender pro tip for you. If you want symmetry while painting you can turn it on for different axis in the top right corner of the view port. Might Save having to guess the line up in the image editor.
Magnificent video. Since it looks like you have a whole litany of material properties to play with on top of just the skin, you could get very cursed-err-creative if you wanted.
Material propeties don't apply on the skin itself, that is moreso substance painter territory, baha only lets us make a basecolour map and in blender texture painting is really simple when related to this, as it doesn't apply the material propeties on the basecolour map like it would in a software like substance.
@@hackerkm Ah, makes sense. Still, there's quite a lot I've figured out how to do. Only downside being that the computer with the pen functionality isn't really powerful enough for blender, so it's been Musical machines back and forth. Still proper fun to make liveries, though. I have to actually make something for an aircraft *other* than the 55 one of these days.
When I choose my livery in the livery editor, it says "no texture" and it doesn't show up in game. This only happens for the workshop version and not the local file. EDIT: It worked when I changed the size of the texture (in blender) to 4096x4096 exactly.
on the brush menu if you go down it says mirror paint press x to do bothe sides then i used markers to mark where things should be like text ect and because i used mirror im able to perfectly align text and stuff on the skin thanks dude
Perhaps there was an update or lack thereof for the F/A-26.... but the 'mesh' generated in blender for the texture wrapping is not congruent to the VTOL game's mesh, resulting in a mis-wrapped texture. Have you run into this, or do you know if there is a way to force blender to use the proper mesh?
When blender creates the Image Texture for the FA-26B (and only for it) it gives me a totally different layout. When I upload to the game the skin gets all messed up. Do you know how to fix this?
I have a question, I know I'm for sure about to explain this in the worst way possible, but I want to make a livery where I just add some big stickers on the jet, specifically the F/A-26B, no completely redone livery, just the normal jet texture with some stickers slapped on the wings or wherever. But the thing is there's no original jet texture with the reference models, so I cant use the original texture. I'm not tryna make a whole livery, I just want the normal jet model with stickers on it. Do you know a way I can get the default texture of the jet and put it on the reference model for making liveries so i cant just put the stickers on top of the jet texture?
I don't think anyone has figured that out, your best bet is just colouring the plane a similar colour to the original skin and that should be good enough afaik. (it'll look better once the UV1 is applied over the plane after you put it in the game)
@@hackerkm I figured it out, I'm so slow, the reason I asked this question was because I didn't know the game added the extra details on the jet, the reason I wanted the original texture was to keep the details like the scuffy paint on the wings, I thought when you made a livery, you had to add the details yourself, and if you didn't it would be a straight black or whatever color, no details, but I made a livery and saw that it does allat so I'm good
I've been trying to make a livery for the F/A-26 but the tail portion doesn't show up like it does with the rest of the aircraft in the game. I'm just wondering if anyone has found a way around that or if the F/A-26 is just a bad aircraft for making a livery for.
I'm trying to save the livery I made to put it into vtol but it only saves as a blender file and won't work. How do I save it in a format that will work when put into the editor resources folder?
when ever i try to put it in the game and even in blender on the exploded view when ever i put a texture on the main model it messes up and goes in a completely different spot on the plane. if i could get some worded advice that would be greatly appreciated.
First off, thanks for making this video, it's super simple to follow! Do you use a special addon that allows use of FBX? Blender (3.4.1) tells me that it can't open that file type :-/
When Im trying to paint just one thing as shown here 6:10 When i go back into texture paint its painting everything around it with the fill tool its like the (p)separation doesnt crossover to the texture paint.
Just follow the tutorial, it's rather simple and with free programs. If you really want to pay someone for a skin, you could ask in the VTOL VR discord liveries chat maybe?
Never thought about a livery chat. looked on fiverr and there was barely anyone that could do texturing like that. might be an idea. Besides, i have tried blender multiple times and i have to few brain cells do use something like that. My neurons are firing on all cilnders, yet, no clue what i'm doing. thx for advice though. might help.

That actually wasn't that hard to do. I just need to make a livery worth putting on the Workshop.

I think it can be my fa26 fbx, but I can't find other online to download.
Let me know if you get a fix for this. The FA-26 uses a slightly different mapping mesh for the texture in-game than what shows up in blender.

great video I've been using it for the past couple of months as a guide. what image editing software do you use though?
paintdotnet
13:28 the image painting thing does not work for me. i get the image in but cannot paint over it or place it on the aircraft. please help good sir!
ok so, nevermind i am zery stupid and was trying to paint something that was the same color as the thing i was painting

I gotta ask, how do you color the individual frames in the wireframe? Cause my lines are not even.
At 1:58 what did you put in, I’m trying to do this for the first time
When I try to upload it to the steam workshop it says “upload error: this livery does not have a texture selected” how do I fix that

DM on discord (hackerkm) if you're on the VTOL VR discord, we can talk about the issue there if its still happening

The FBX should be importable by that version.
Make sure that you're doing file > import > FBX and not file > open
